By Vincent Gunde

Political activist Bon Kalindo has urged various churches and individuals to continue praying for the spirits of those who died in a plane crash in Chikangawa forest in Mzimba district on the 10th June, 2024 to be resting in peace and in power.

Kalindo said since the date when the country heard of that sad news that former Vice President of the Republic Dr. Saulosi Chilima and eight others on board the crashed military plane lost their lives, silence continues to deepen in Malawi, government is not ready to provide answers.

He said all Malawian eyes are set to Germany aircraft experts who were in the country to investigate the plane crash to release their report for Malawian hearts to rest and conspiracy theories to die a natural death.

Speaking through an audio clip circulating in various social media platforms, Kalindo has appealed to Malawians to continue lighting candles in their bedrooms praying for the truth to prevail that God must provide answers on Chikangawa, Chikangawa and Chikangawa forest and why Chikangawa?

Kalindo said he sees nothing wrong in people writing candles claiming that candles are for peace and love urging all to love the departed souls in the Chikangawa plane crash and praying to all those that have died after hearing of Chikangawa news through Blood Pressure.

“Let’s put the departed Chikangawa forest souls in God’s hand in OSAOPA, OSAFOOKA slogan, this is the only love we can accord to them,” he said.

The activist has also appealed to UTM members to strengthen their hearts observing that the problems in UTM are coming from UTM members who are receiving money from the MCP to destabilize the party advising them that those that are receiving money are individuals but the majority of Malawians are sympathizing with the death of Dr. Chilima.

Kalindo said some individuals are trying very hard for UTM members to be divided with others following the legacy of Dr. Chilima and others following bags of money from the MCP which is free for all particularly for one who announces joining the MCP.

He has advised the UTM to hold the Convention claiming that this is the only way to end external squabbles in the party assuring all that those MPs who are still in government after the death of Dr. Chilima will not retain their constituency seats.

Kalindo has thanked UTM officials for holding a rally in Mzuzu saying it was his prayer that the UTM will walk out of the Alliance even though it has come too late observing that many patriotic Malawians are in support of the brave decision made.

Meanwhile, Kalindo has claimed that after the MCP had hold its celebrations in Balaka for K100 billion NEEF loans disbursed to beneficiaries, another celebration inform of a lawsuit has come from Seychelles where a company is demanding K50 billion for AIP fertilizer it supplied to Malawi.

In a daring operation, police in Lilongwe have recovered 248 bags of stolen maize worth K9.9 million and arrested four suspects in connection with the theft.

The breakthrough comes after a group of 18 criminals attacked a farm in Mpingu on July 24, 2024, overpowering watchmen and making off with the staple grain.

According to authorities, the suspects, armed with unknown objects, invaded the farm at around 22:00 hours, tying up the watchmen before breaking into a warehouse and escaping with the maize.

The stolen bags, each weighing 50 kilograms, were later sold to a company within the capital city.

Detectives launched a thorough investigation, which led to the arrest of four suspects on Monday, July 29, 2024. The suspects, identified as Lonjezo Landirani, 23, Geofrey James, 30, Lemison Cheza, 24, and Ahmad Wasili, 49, are expected to appear in court soon to face charges of Breaking and Theft.

The police have also launched a manhunt for the remaining 12 suspects, who are still at large.

The recovered maize has been returned to its rightful owner, bringing relief to the affected farmer.

The incident highlights the growing concern of farm thefts in the region, with criminals targeting vulnerable farms and warehouses.

The police have urged farmers to take extra precautions to secure their properties and report any suspicious activities.

In a statement, the police commended the swift action of the detectives, saying, “The recovery of the stolen maize and the arrest of the suspects demonstrate our commitment to combating crime and ensuring justice for victims.”

The four suspects hail from different districts, with Lonjezo Landirani and Geofrey James coming from Chiudza Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) M’bwatalika, Lilongwe; Lemison Cheza from Chilenga Village, T/A Msakambewa, Dowa; and Ahmad Wasili from Kapoloma Village, T/A Kapoloma in Machinga District.

As the police continue to investigate and apprehend the remaining suspects, farmers and residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to the recovery of stolen property and the prosecution of criminals.

A pressure group, Malawi First, the People First, has announced plans to hold nationwide demonstrations on August 8, 2024, to protest against new tax measures and issues surrounding voter registration and national identification registration.

The group’s leader, Bon Kalindo, made the announcement during a press conference in Lilongwe, citing the government’s failure to respond to their concerns.

Furthermore, the group is calling for the suspension of the newly introduced excise tax stamps, which they believe will negatively impact the economy and citizens.

Malawi First

Additionally, Malawi First, the People First, is demanding an extension of voter registration to those without national identity cards, ensuring that all eligible citizens can exercise their right to vote.

Moreover, the group is urging the National Registration Bureau to reform the identity card processes, making it easier for more Malawians to acquire them.

The pressure group had issued an ultimatum to the government, stating that they would hold demonstrations within 10 days if their demands were not met.

However, the government has not responded to their concerns, leading to the declaration of nationwide demonstrations.

Notably, this is not the first time that Malawians have taken to the streets to protest against government policies.

In the past, demonstrations have been held to protest against issues such as fuel shortages, economic policies, and electoral reform bills.

Consequently, the upcoming demonstrations on August 8 highlight the ongoing challenges and tensions between the government and civil society in Malawi.

Meanwhile, the government’s failure to address the concerns of Malawi First, the People First, has led to widespread discontent among citizens, who are eager to see changes in the country’s policies.

Ultimately, the demonstrations on August 8 will be a test of the government’s commitment to listening to the voices of its citizens.

ANC expels Jacob Zuma for forming rival party

By Chisomo Phiri

South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former President Jacob Zuma for his role in forming a rival political party, which contributed to the ANC’s historic loss of its parliamentary majority.

The party’s disciplinary committee concluded that Zuma’s actions compromised the ANC’s integrity and values.

This development marks a turning point for the ANC, which had maintained its dominance in South African politics for over three decades.

Zuma’s departure from the party comes six years after he resigned as President in 2018, following a decline in electoral support.

The expulsion highlights the ANC’s efforts to reassert its unity and maintain its relevance in South African politics.

By taking a firm stance against internal divisions, the party aims to regain the trust of its supporters and reclaim its position as a dominant force in the country’s political landscape.
