This expansive agricultural haven spans 365 hectares, employing over 300 workers and embodying the principles of innovation, community development, and sustainable farming practices.

As we delve into the story of Namuleri Farm, we uncover a narrative of passion, dedication, and a commitment to empowering the local community.

Agricultural Innovation and Productivity

Namuleri Farm operates year-round, engaging in winter cropping to maximize productivity.

During a recent visit, over 3,000 bags of shelled maize were observed, with more arriving steadily.

The farm’s diverse agricultural portfolio includes cassava, Irish potatoes, bananas, tomatoes, sugarcane, and various fruits such as mangoes and guavas.

This commitment to crop diversification ensures the farm’s resilience and adaptability in the face of climate change.

Fair Trade and Community Support

Notably, Namuleri Farm has been purchasing maize from local farmers at above-market prices, demonstrating a commitment to fair trade and community support.

This approach not only benefits the local farmers but also ensures a steady supply of high-quality produce for the farm’s operations.

Irrigation System and Infrastructure

The farm’s impressive irrigation system, sourced from one of Malawi’s largest man-made dams located on the property, ensures its sustainability and productivity.

This infrastructure is particularly important in a region where water management is crucial.

The farm’s tobacco barns, maize mill, and other facilities further highlight its role in the tobacco industry and its commitment to self-sufficiency.

Community Integration and Development

Embodying its motto, “Working towards others,” Namuleri Farm is deeply integrated into the local community.

Simplex Chithyola has invested in the development of community infrastructure, including a maize mill that serves both the farm and the surrounding area.

The construction of church buildings for Catholic and CCAP congregations has reduced travel distances for worshipers, fostering a sense of community and social cohesion.

Beyond Agriculture: Hospitality and Business Ventures

Simplex Chithyola has expanded his business ventures into the hospitality industry, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to diversification. This move not only generates additional revenue streams but also provides employment opportunities for the local community.

A Lasting Legacy

Namuleri Farm stands as a testament to Simplex Chithyola’s visionary leadership and commitment to community development.

Through sustainable agricultural practices, fair trade, and community integration, Chithyola has created a lasting legacy that will continue to empower generations to come.

As we reflect on the story of Namuleri Farm, we are reminded of the transformative power of innovative thinking, dedication, and a passion for making a positive impact on the world.

European Union through European Investment Bank (UIB) has today given Malawi a whopping K176Billion towards enhancement of power generation as well as Civil Society capacity building.

Minister of Finance and Economic affairs Hon Simplex Chithyola Banda has hailed European Union for the grant.

Chithyola also commended Malawi President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for his sound leadership.

Finance Minister Chithyola and EU delegation

He said was so happy for the big day. He said this speaks in volumes in terms of degree of trust and confidence that donors have in the leadership of Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and his government.

“Remember we are talking about two projects hear, this include the £85 million for the strengthening power production by  coming up with the largest lines for power in this country. But we are also talking about the support to civil society in the private sector in this country. 85 million and 8 million so obviously, I am more than happy because we are talking of 93 Million Euros which is almost K176Billion,” he said.

He said this project will provide quality infrastructure that will improve Malawi’s power sector by upgrading the Eastern Backbone transmission lines joining the central and northern regions of the country.

“A new 132 kV line will be constructed on steel latticed towers to replace the 42-year-old wooden pole-mounted lines which serve important domestic, agro-based industries, mining and rural growth centres.
The new line will cover 293km starting from the existing Nkhoma substation in Lilongwe and run east to Nanjoka substation in Salima,” he said.

He said with this funding , the transmission line will extend northwards along Lake Malawi connecting to existing substations at Nkhotakota, Dwangwa and Chintheche in the northern region.
