Social commentator Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo is under fire following his audio clip released on 2nd August, 2024 in which he spoke highly of the divisions and confusions rocking the Chewa tribe that they cannot reach to one body for all the Chewas in Malawi.

Sunganimoyo known for not closing his mouth, he speaks of his mind in issues of politics, culture and religion and the audio released on 2nd August, 2024 did not please some Chewa chiefs one being Group village Head Sosola of Salima.

Sunganimoyo

GvH Sosola whose real name is Raphael Nowa after listening to the clip, failed to hold his mouth but started insulting Sunganimoyo left and right in obscene languages that many are shacking their heads in disbelief of how come a chief like Sosola insulting Sunganimoyo using obscene language.

In a recorded audio CLIP circulating in various social media platforms, GvH Sosola described Sunganimoyo as a man who is not of Chewa blood and should stop talking of issues affecting the Chewa divisions and confusions claiming that Kalonga Dr. Gawa Undi of Zambia is his relative.

“If there are confusions, is this going to your family or your tribe, you must be stupid yourself and don’t speak anything of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, you cannot defeat me,” said GvH Sosola.

Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo when contacted said he has no words to say claiming that he has sent the clip of insulting him using obscene language to President Chakwera speaking for itself that he is being taken as an outcast not a Chewa.

Sunganimoyo has been digging the Chewa history to find out the reasons that have made the Chewas to be divided into two tribal groupings; Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO) and Bwalo la Chewa Foundation (BOLA-CEFO).

He has for long been lamenting that CHEFO goes to Eastern Province of Chipata in Zambia for the annual Chewa Kulamba ceremony at Mkaika headquarters of Paramount Chief Kalonga Dr. Gawa Undi of Zambia, While Bwalo la Chewa holds “ Chizangala cha a Chewa in Malawi.

Bwalo la Chewa Foundation has been arguing holding of Kulamba ceremonies in Zambia on the claims that Lundu and Undi were from one mother-Nyangu at Mankhamba headquarters, Undi settled in Zambia while Lundu settled in Malawi and there’s no way Gawa Undi be recognized as the Paramount Chief of all the Chews in Malawi.

As the two Chewa tribal groupings are not enough, Paramount Chief Lundu break-away from Bwalo la Chewa for a new tribal grouping “Malawi Chewa Heritage -Chifukwato cha a Chewa” meaning that the Chewas beside of having a population of 15 million people in Malawi have three tribal groupings representing the Chewa people.

The Malawi Government has received a $11.2 million drought insurance payout from the African Risk Capacity (ARC).

Receiving the cheque at Mzuzu State Lodge on Friday, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera highlighted that the payout underscores the power of collaboration in addressing challenges posed by climate-related disasters.

“There is a pressing need to support people and strengthen food production in the country,” said Chakwera.

The President indicated that funds from the payout will be used to enhance food security, support livelihood initiatives for Malawians, and ensure that refugees and host communities are better equipped to withstand the adverse effects of drought.

On his part, ARC Board Chairperson, Maxwell Mkwezalamba, said the payout will cushion Malawi from El Niño effects, which have affected 23 districts in the country.

“We want these funds to help Malawi build community resilience and help farmers increase food production,” he said.

Minister of Finance, Simplex Chithyola Banda, emphasized the importance of the payout, saying:”This funding will significantly aid in building community resilience and improving our response to disasters, mitigating the impact of natural events like El Niño, which have left close to 5.2 million people food insecure in the country.”

The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) and the World Food Program (WFP) will be responsible for the implementation of initiatives funded by the payout.

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has backed the introduction of Tax Stamps by the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), saying the initiative is vital in strengthening the government’s capacity to fund essential services.

In a statement, HRDC chairperson Gift Trapence says the tax stamps are instrumental in combating tax evasion and fraud.

He says the tax stamps will, among other things, address the smuggling of goods into the country.

However, Trapence has expressed deep shock at some quarters that have come out denouncing the implementation of tax stamps.

This comes as the Malawi First Movement, led by Bon Kalindo, intends to hold demonstrations against the tax stamps on August 8, 2024.
