Vice President Dr. Michael Bizwick underscored the pivotal role of human capital in national development during the 2024 Human Resource Society of Malawi annual lakeshore conference, held in Mangochi today.

In his keynote address, Dr. Usi emphasized that while countries, organizations, and companies can make significant efforts, the successful implementation of their goals ultimately hinges on their human capital. He stated, “Human capital is the most competitive advantage for any organization or country. Embracing integrity to avoid corruption, as well as personal commitment to work, is all about human capital.”

Parliament of Malawi briefs media committee on compliance with access to information act

This morning, representatives from the Parliament of Malawi appeared before the Media, Information, and Communications Committee to provide an update on their adherence to the Access to Information Act of 2016.

During the briefing, Parliament officials outlined their efforts to comply with the Act, which mandates greater transparency and public access to information. They discussed various measures taken to ensure that information is readily available to the public and addressed any challenges encountered in the implementation process.



The session aimed to demonstrate Parliament’s commitment to upholding the principles of transparency and accountability as outlined in the Access to Information Act. The Committee’s review will help assess the effectiveness of these measures and identify areas for improvement in facilitating public access to parliamentary information.

President Chakwera celebrates Mzuzu University’s 26th congregation

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, President Lazarus Chakwera joined the Mzuzu University community for its 26th congregation, where he conferred academic credentials to the first graduating cohort of 668 students out of 2,652. As Chancellor of Mzuzu University, Chakwera commended the institution for its commitment to academic excellence through its high-quality, industry-tailored, and multi-disciplinary programs, which align with national development goals.

In his address, President Chakwera encouraged the new graduates to demonstrate their understanding, problem-solving skills, and creativity in their future endeavors. He emphasized the importance of applying their education to make tangible contributions to society.

Residents protest poor road conditions in Blantyre

Led by community leader Taliki Pongolani, the protesters are demanding that authorities take immediate action to repair and upgrade the roads, with a particular focus on the critical stretch from Chinseu to Malaysia.

The protest, which primarily involves young people from the area, began at Kamuzu Upper Stadium and is making its way to the district commissioner’s office. The demonstrators are calling for urgent intervention to address the road conditions they believe are affecting their daily lives and safety.

The demonstration highlights growing frustration among residents over infrastructure issues and reflects a broader demand for improved public services in Blantyre.

President Chakwera meets Malawi Electoral Commissioners at Mzuzu State Lodge

On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, President Lazarus Chakwera convened a crucial meeting with all Malawi Electoral Commissioners at the Mzuzu State Lodge. The meeting was led by the Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Justice Annabel Mtalimanja.

Accompanying President Chakwera were nearly all senior cabinet ministers and key strategists from the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP). The prominent figures included Justice Minister Titus Mvalo, Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Local Government Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda, and Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu.
