The graft bursting body Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) on Wednesday May 22, 2024 entered into a partnership to fight against corruption in netball and other sectors.

In an interview with journalists, ACB Director General (DG) Martha Chizuma said among others the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions is aimed at raising awareness of corruption practices and also rooting out elements of corruption within the netball community.

“Through this partnership we are  fighting corruption through netball and in netball. ACB has a mandate to spearhead anti-corruption efforts in the country and through this MoU we are doing just that.

“Through this MoU we will train officials and also do investigations and prosecute if any elements of corruption are detected in netball,” she said.

NAM president Abigail Sharif  described the MoU as a significant milestone in demonstrating commitment towards the fight against corruption.

“This is a historical moment. We are commiting ourselves to highest values of accountability and transparency. Corruption dilutes public trust and requires collective action.

“By working with ACB, we will have a bigger reach because netball is a community sport,” said Sharif.

ACB is a government department headed by the Director General assisted by the Deputy Director General who are both appointed by the President but whose appointment is subject to ratification by the Public Appointments Committee of Parliament.

Other officers of the Bureau are appointed by the Director General following normal procurement procedures.

It commenced its full operations on February 9,1998.

When conducting transactions in your local currency, you have more control over your finances. You are shielded from currency exchange volatility and can better predict the financial impact of international transactions, making budgeting and financial planning more accurate and reliable.

There was commotion at the Supreme and High Court premises in Blantyre as police forcibly removed leaves and placards put up at the gates where magistrates and judiciary support staff are staging a sit-in.

Police took this action to display order at the site, which is a stone throw away distance from Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds, where President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to open the 34th Malawi International Trade Fair.

The judiciary support staff and magistrates are staging the sit-in to push the government to revise their remuneration.

The court gates remain closed to public access, but there is a heavy police presence outside.

In terms of international law, the rights to freedom of association, peaceful assembly and expression are recognised in various treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Together, these rights constitute the right to protest.

Remuneration plays an important part in human resources because it influences many aspects: the relationship between employee and employer, talent attraction and retention, commitment, and the results achieved. Your employees’ primary source of income is their salary, so it’s vitally important to them.

Salary revision is essential to ensure that employees’ compensation remains fair and competitive in line with market standards and their contributions to the organization.
