Dr. Michael Usi, the current leader of Malawi, has voiced strong criticism regarding the conduct of political leaders, emphasizing that true leadership is a divine calling rather than a political strategy. He pointed out that leaders should begin their service with a commitment to integrity, symbolized by swearing an oath on a Bible or Quran, rather than a party manifesto.
Dr. Usi remarked, “It is disheartening to see leaders who are meant to serve the people, but instead, they are using their positions for personal gain. Just as Jesus sent his disciples to fetch a donkey for a higher purpose, today we see leaders misusing their power and public resources. It is astonishing that such leaders would claim to be advancing development through their government.”
Dr. Usi also addressed concerns about corruption, suggesting that those who embezzle public funds often do so with the belief that they will amass wealth and escape poverty. He called for more accountability and integrity among public officials.
These comments were made during a prayer service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Malamulo, Thyolo district. Dr. Usi also contributed K2 million to support Dolika’s ministry and assist those in need, demonstrating his commitment to community service and support for the underprivileged.
