Netball League gets K100 million boost from Rainbow Paints

Rainbow Paints Limited has extended its sponsorship of the Blantyre and Districts Netball League (BDNL) for an additional five years, with a total value of K100 million.

This represents a significant increase from the previous annual package of K12 million to K20 million, a 66% adjustment.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at Malawi Sun Hotel in Blantyre on Thursday, Rainbow Paints Limited’s technical sales and marketing executive, Wezi Chirwa, stated that the company aims to continue supporting the development of netball in Malawi.

On his part, BDNL chairperson, Vitumbiko Gubuduza, acknowledged Rainbow Paints Limited’s consistent support, describing them as a valued partner.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) vice-president, Junia Kazembe, encouraged other corporate entities to follow Rainbow Paints’ example in supporting netball.

Guest of honor, Felistus Dossi, and Sports Writers Association of Malawi (SWAM) president, Mphatso Malidadi, emphasized the importance of innovation in promoting the sponsor’s brand and safeguarding the sponsorship.

BDNL has produced the country’s big name netball players such as Australia-based shooter Mwawi Kumwenda-M’mbwana and Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers ink deal with Golden Peacock Hotel

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers on Thursday signed a one year partnership with Golden Peacock Hotel.

In the deal,  the Hotel will be accommodating, Nomads players and officials across the country.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Blantyre, Wanderers Chief Executive Officer, Panganeni Ndovi said the deal aims at providing the team with comfortable and convenient lodging options.

This, he said, will enhance the Nomads’ performance on and off the field and help cut down the costs the team uses on accommodation.

In his remarks, Golden Peacock Marketing Officer, Khumbo Gwede said the Hotel is excited to be associated with the Wanderers brand.

“Wanderers is a big brand and one of the biggest teams in the country.We are so excited to be associated with this team and more good things to come,” he said.

Rudo Mkukupa drops revamped version of ‘Mwana wa Masiye

Renowned gospel singer Rudo Mkukupa Chakwera has today released a revamped version of her debut song ‘Mwana wa Masiye.’

In an interview with 247 Malawi News,Rudo said the release of the revamped version of the 1999 song is part of commemorating her 25 years in the music industry.

“The song holds a profound place in my heart, as it delves into the depths of loss, particularly the experience of orphanhood.

“Parents are the cornerstone of a child’s existence, and I aimed to empathize with that reality through my music. Additionally, I have long been driven to make a difference in the lives of orphans, and I believe God is guiding me in that mission,” she said.

The musician added that after 25 years, she has chosen to reintroduce this song to the world because circumstances have evolved.

“Many issues that once weighed heavily on our hearts are gradually fading into memory. However, the plight of orphans remains a pressing concern for me,” she added.

Rudo further stated that in the song she wants to remind the current generation that kindness and love have enduring value.

“As the world continues to dispense love, let us ensure that orphans are not overlooked but are welcomed to the table of compassion,” she explained.

Rudo, a daughter of iconic jazz artist Isaac Mkukupa, is a renowned figure in Malawi’s music scene.

She Started her singing career in 1999.

The musician holds a Masters in Business Administration.

She studied music at Chancellor College and later returned to teach part-time.

Associated with her father’s group ‘Touch of Class,’ Rudo has graced significant events, including performances at the SADC Heads of State Banquet.

A respected voice in Malawi’s music, she serves on the National Executive Committee and holds various artistic positions.

As a judge on ‘E-Wallet’ and with four albums under her belt, Rudo continues to contribute to Malawi’s musical landscape.

India commended for Human Capital Development in Malawi

Deputy Minister of Education, Nancy Chaola Mdooko has applauded the government of India for complementing Malawi on human capital development through the provision of scholarships by Indian universities to Malawian students.

Mdooko made the remarks today in Lilongwe during the graduation ceremony of students under Government of India’s scholarship online programme which was organised by the High Commission of India to Malawi.

“From a human capital development perspective, this day is very important because as a nation, we have created a new capital that can contribute effectively to the achievement of the aspirations of the Malawi 2063,” she said.

The Deputy Minister added that what India is doing is in line with the aspirations and thematic objectives of the National Education Sector Investment Plan (NESIP)  2020 – 2030, through which the Ministry seeks to increase equitable access to higher education through the implementation of a number of strategies including increased participation of private sector as well as government partners in offering higher education.

“In this regard, the Government of Malawi appreciates the unwavering commitment that the Government of India has demonstrated to our country through various capacity-building programmes since the establishment of our diplomatic relations 60 years ago,” she added.

Speaking earlier, Indian High Commissioner to Malawi, Shri Gopalakrishnan expressed India’s commitment to supporting Malawi in its quest to attain the Malawi 2063 through capacity building by providing scholarships in different fields.

Among other disciplines, the graduands were awarded Masters of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, Masters of Computer Applications, Masters of Business Administration,  Masters of Commerce – Financial Management, Bachelor’s of Business Administration, Bachelor’s of  Computer Science and Postgraduate Diplomas in Finance and Accounting, Business Analytics and Intelligence as well as in Non-Governmental Organisation ( NGO) Management.

Chakwera launches the 2024 Malawi Red Cross Society Flag Week

President Dr. Lazarus MacCarthy Chakwera has today launched the 2024 Malawi Red Cross Society Flag Week at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

The event, which marks the beginning of the Red Cross’s annual fundraising campaign, was attended by dignitaries, including the Minister of Health, Hon. Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, and the President of the Malawi Red Cross Society, Mr. Innocent Majiya.

In his address, President Chakwera commended the Malawi Red Cross Society for its tireless efforts in providing humanitarian services to vulnerable communities in Malawi.

He emphasized the importance of supporting the organization’s work, particularly in the areas of disaster response, health, and community development.

As the patron of the Malawi Red Cross Society, President Chakwera led by example by making a donation to the organization.

He was also presented with a carnation by the MRCS Youth President, Mr. Bob Chisamba, in appreciation of his support.

The Malawi Red Cross Society, established in 1966, is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency response, health, and community development services to vulnerable communities in Malawi.

With a network of volunteers and staff across the country, the Red Cross plays a vital role in supporting the government’s efforts to improve the lives of Malawians.

The Flag Week campaign is an annual event that aims at raising funds and awareness for the Red Cross’s humanitarian work.

The campaign is supported by individuals, organizations, and corporations, who donate funds and resources to support the Red Cross’s programs and services.
