United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Director Mark Simuuwe has joined a growing list of dignitaries and citizens mourning the passing of former Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
Earlier on Monday, Simuuwe visited Belvedere Lodge in Lusaka, where a book of condolence has been opened in honor of the late leader. The lodge has become a central location for mourners paying their last respects.

Simuuwe signed the condolence book in a solemn moment that symbolized both respect and national unity during a time of mourning. His gesture has been welcomed as a sign of political maturity, especially given the often-tense relationship between UPND and the Patriotic Front (PF), the party under which Lungu served.
Though representing different political ideologies, Simuuwe’s act has been seen by many as a reminder that in times of grief, Zambia’s shared values and humanity transcend party lines.
Former President Lungu, who served as the sixth President of Zambia from 2015 to 2021, remains a significant figure in the nation’s recent political history. His death has sparked a wave of tributes from across the political spectrum and beyond.
As the country continues to mourn, more leaders and citizens are expected to visit Belvedere Lodge to pay their respects and reflect on Lungu’s legacy.
Simuuwe’s presence at the lodge serves as an embodiment of national reconciliation and collective remembrance, reinforcing the importance of unity during Zambia’s time of loss.
