Premier Bet renovates Blantyre Youth Centre netball court

Premier Bet on Friday officially handed-over a renovated netball court at Blantyre Youth Center(BYC).

Speaking in an interview with journalists Affiliate Manager at Premier Bet Jonathan Katunga described the renovation of the netball court as part of the company’s commitment to social corporate responsibility.

On her part, the interim Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Vitumbiko Gubuduza acknowledged the gesture saying the refurbished court will help reduce injures during games, among others.



“Most of our players sustained serious injuries on this court due to the previous hard floor. The coming in of this artificial floor will help the player have low injury risks as they will be falling on a softer surface that does not become slippery when wet,” she said.

Premier Bet is a sports betting and lotto gaming company with operations in several African countries, including Malawi, Mali,Togo and Cameroon.

The company offers various sports betting options, lotto games, and Vegas games, depending on the country.

Premier Bet also provides online betting platforms and mobile apps for convenient access to their services.

New VP Michael Usi vows to work closely with president Lazarus Chakwera in developing Malawi

The newly sworn-in Vice President, Dr.Michael Usi has vowed to work closely with President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera’s office to drive progress across all areas of development in the country.

Speaking when he was sworn-in at Parliament Building in Lilongwe on Friday, Dr. Usi emphasised the importance of prioritising the needs of ordinary Malawians to build a better country for all.

He also expressed confidence in President Chakwera’s leadership, highlighting his exemplary conduct during the late Vice President Saulos Chilima’s funeral.

Usi added that serving as Vice President  comes with personal sacrifices.

“Some people may think that, by virtue of being Vice  President, I will be enjoying, truth is, there is no joy in any of this, as it is a sacrifice on my personal life for service to the Malawian people.”

“As Vice President, I no longer have to think about myself and family, but I have to be like a Grandfather who constantly thinks about the needs of his children and grandchildren, that is a service,”said Usi.

The new Vice President also expressed gratitude to the late Chilima for first believing in him and making him his running mate in the 2019 presidential elections.

To keep chilima’s legacy and vision alive,Usi committed to work to the best of his abilities for the success of the country.

President Chakwera appointed Usi as new Vice President of Malawi on Thursday June 21,2024.

He succeeds late Chilima who died in a plane crash on  June 10, 2024.

Previously, Usi served as the Minister of Natural Resorces and Climate Change.

The newly sworn in Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja has committed to maintaining the integrity of the election management body to ensure a free, fair and credible election in 2025.

Justice Mtalimanja said this in Lilongwe on Friday after taking her oaths of allegiance and office.

She said her first task at MEC will be to administer the by-elections at Mwasa and Chilaweni wards in Mangochi and Blantyre respectively.

“I will do my work accordingly and I will perform to everyone’s expectation,” said Mtalimanja.

On his part, Chief Justice Rezine Mzikamanda  challenged  Mtalimanja and two other newly appointed commissioners Reverend Philip Kambulire and Dr. Limbikani Kamlongera to diligently follow the law when executing their duties.

He dared the three to resist any influence that might affect their work by working with confidence, integrity and impartiality.

“The commission you have joined has served with distinction….I hope you will bring added knowledge and expertise…you should take the oaths seriously…The mandate of MEC is constitutionally defined, its is legally defined…as your starting point, pay particular attention to your mandate as spelt out in the constitution,” he said.

Justice Mtalimanja has taken over from Justice Chifundo Kachale, whose tenure expired on June 6, 2024.

Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda has encouraged the newly sworn-in Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson, Annabel Mtalimanja and two Commissioners, Rev. Philip Kambulire and Dr.Limbikani Kamlongera to work with transparency and accountability as these align with the interest of Malawians.

Speaking during a swearing- in ceremony of MEC Chairperson and two Commissioners at High Court in Lilongwe on Friday,Mzikamanda said the Chairperson and the Commissioners should among others, abide with the Malawi constitutional laws when carrying their duties.

He said:”As members of MEC ensure that you abide by the laws as guidelines from the Constitution for the elections to be managed with highest degree for the better results including justice and fairness.”

The Chief Justice said that despite the challenges and setbacks including accusations they should remain focus to the laws that govern their duties and commit their souls, skills and knowledge to work for the benefit of the country.

On her part, the newly sworn-in MEC Chairperson Mtalimanja assured Malawians that she would continue with the mandate of MEC in preparations for the upcoming general elections and Malawians should expect MEC to deliver free and credible elections.

These appointments fill the vacancies left by the outgoing Chairperson, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale and Commissioners Dr. Anthony John Mukumbwa and Olivia Mchaju Liwewe whose tenutures ended on June 6 2024.

The Appointments are effective June 7, 2024 were made in accordance with section 75 of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and Section 4 of the Malawi Electoral Commission Act.
