Civil Service United has handed Nyasa Big Bullets their first defeat this season at Kamuzu Stadium, beating them 2-1 in an Airtel top 8 match played on Saturday afternoon.
The People’s team were first to score through Maxwell Phodo who connected with a header a corner kick well taken by Precious Phiri just a minute from kick-off.
Lloyd Aaron leveled the scores from the penalty spot 9 minutes later after Collins Okumu fouled Luke Chima in the penalty box.
Chifundo Ngapemba scored the winner for the civil servants with a beautiful header in the 57th minute, beating Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba.

After the match, Civil Service United midfielder Lloyd Aaron was voted man of the match following his beautiful display during the match.
Despite the win, Civil have failed to progress into the semifinals as the People’s team cruise through with a 3-2 win on aggregate following the People’s teams’ 2-nil victory in the first leg in Lilongwe.
The win means that Bullets have qualified into the Airtel Top 8 semifinals for a third consecutive season.
Bullets will now face Blue Eagles in the semifinals while Mafco FC will take on the winner between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers.
Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has hailed Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church for the contribution it makes in the country.
Speaking in Blantyre during the SDA centenary celebrations, chakwera said he was so delighted to have such a national partner in the Church.
“And it is no secret that the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Malawi has made a huge contribution to governance, with prominent members of the church serving in various positions of influence in Government under different Administrations, including Ministers in my own Cabinet, not to say anything of the taxes that members of the church pay faithfully for the sustaining of public services and the counsel I myself receive as President from the leadership of the Church,” he said.
The president said its time to celebrate these contributions today and called on the whole church to recommit itself to a new life of repentance.
The President said while some may devote themselves to a life of service and development for the love of country, an Adventist has an even greater reason to do so, and that greater reason is the Second Advent of Lord Jesus Christ.
The President said Advent message is not merely that Jesus is coming again, but that Jesus says we must occupy until he comes.
“As such, I call on you to develop more schools to occupy the education sector until the Lord comes. I call on you to develop more hospitals to occupy the health sector, ” he said.
Chakwera arrived in the city of Blantyre this morning where he graced the celebrations marking 100 years anniversary of the Chiwembe Seventh Day Adventist Church.
The event, known as the Chiwembe for Blantyre Centenary Celebrations, drew thousands of SDA faithfuls from various churches from within Blantyre and surrounding areas.
President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera says access to education is a constitutional and human rights issue and as such no student should fail to complete their educational aspirations due to lack of school fees.
President Chakwera has lamented that while the government has set up the Loans Board to provide loans to needy students lacking fees in various academic institutions, some are not able to access such loans for one reason or the other, describing this as a worrisome development. Speaking during the graduation ceremony of over 2400 outstanding individuals at LUANAR in Lilongwe on Thursday, President Chakwera said student accommodation in the public universities has been one of the major challenges.

Dr. Chakwera said LUANAR will soon construct hostels at its Natural Resources College (NRC) and Bunda Campuses to accommodate over a thousand students expressing no doubt that the graduating students have been furnished with the requisite skills to thrive in their respective disciplines and to make their contributions to the agricultural development and transformation of Malawi. “I have no doubt that you have each been furnished with the requisite skills to contribute to the agricultural development and transformation of Malawi,” he said.
President Chakwera appealed to the graduating students to labour everyday in unity to fulfill the desire of making Malawi a better country and them should be in the forefront to provide solutions to a litany of challenges affecting the country’s development such as food security, protection of the environment, containing diseases, combating locust invasions, providing sustainable agricultural initiatives and dealing with problems of climate change among others. He said LUANAR as an agro-based higher education institution, it needs to move beyond its current focus towards more innovations and industrialization (level 5 of education) observing that LUANAR’S presence is currently confined to its location, specifically where teaching and learning is taking place.
The President said LUANAR needs to spread beyond Bunda, Natural Resources College (NRC), City Campus and ODel centres, if it were to effectively undertake its mandate in different Agri Ecological zones in line with the ever-changing environments, economies and climate influences. He said he support the initiative to take the university to where the people are and where its mandate is needed and him as Chancellor and the University Council will be considering other sites or centres within the country to enhance the universities impact.
President chakwera said taking the university to the people will increase accessibility, enhance relevance and cultural diversity, and provide collaboration opportunities.
A call has gone to people who use internet in the country for various purposes to use it carefully so as to avoid committing cyber crimes.
Speaking during the commemoration of Cyber Security Awareness Month held on Friday October 27,2023 at Golden Peacock Hotel in Blantyre,Christian Chikalimba, a Board Member at Center For Governance and Leadership (CEGOL) said it is important for everyone to make sure that internet is used carefully and not destroying someone’s reputation.

“Let us all use internet carefully and avoid committing cyber crimes. For us girls, let us not share our naked picture or videos (nudes) to our lovers as this can lead to cyber crimes. Loving a person is not sending him naked pictures. So let us be careful enough and respect ourselves,” she said.
Chikalimba said people should draw a lesson from a Facebook conman Precious Kasakatiza who has been recently sentenced to 3 years in prison with hard labour for dumping people of their hard-earned money.
“Cyber Crime is a serious offense. Let us draw a lesson from Kasakatiza who will now spend 3 years of his life in prison with hard labour for being found stealing people’s money through Facebook,” said Chikalimba.
On her part, District Education Manager(DEM) for Blantyre District Anita Kaliu described Cyber Security Awareness Month as an important event in an as far as Cyber Crimes are concerned in the country.
“This is an important event as we learn a lot of things about cyber security and how cyber crimes can be combated,” she said.
Annie Leleni, a Form four student at Stella Maris Secondary School thanked CEGOL and Her For Tech Magazine for organizing the event.
“Let me on behalf of my fellow students at Stella Maris Secondary School thank the organizers of this event. We have learnt a lot and we will not at all commit cyber crimes,” she said.
This year, the event was commemorated under the theme ‘ Secure our World’.

While some people are lavishing praise on the new song, others believe that it’s high time the ‘Mtendere’ hitmaker takes a break from music to work on perfecting his art as his recent songs have been lacking creativity.

Despite having some positive reaction from a good number of music followers, other music fanatics believe the artist is lacking creativity as it is now becoming difficult to differentiate his songs.
“Video yokongola.. koma nyimbo i think tinaimvelako kale pena pake .. inayake mmati konkuno konkuno .. kaya konkuno,” wrote a Lilongwe-based Graphic designer Best Balala.
Another music follower Amos Mponda wrote; “Tisiyanitsa bwanji kodi nyimbozi pena you luck creativity akulu. Nanga nyimbo kumangofanana kapena just change the team or pezani ma composer nanga ndikukhala ngati ndikuvela Ngenge-tu apa.”
