By Burnett Munthali

Timothy Kayendera is the running mate to Jordan Sauti, the presidential candidate for the Patriotic Citizens Party (PCP), in the 2025 presidential election.

His nomination reflects not only the strategic foresight of the PCP but also the party’s dedication to cultivating principled and capable leadership at the highest levels of government.

Timothy Kayendera

Kayendera is a man of integrity, intelligence, and nationalistic passion—qualities that make him a perfect fit to serve as Vice President in a new government rooted in transparency, patriotism, and development.

He has distinguished himself through years of service to the community, contributing to both public and private sectors with professionalism and clarity of purpose.

Timothy Kayendera brings with him a deep understanding of Malawi’s governance systems, having actively participated in policy dialogues and developmental initiatives that put people at the center.

His reputation is that of a calm, deliberate, and solutions-driven leader—an ideal complement to the dynamic and visionary leadership style of Jordan Sauti.

One of Kayendera’s strongest assets is his commitment to empowering the youth, women, and rural communities, which aligns with PCP’s core principles of inclusive governance and social justice.

He is well-regarded for his ethical conduct, humility, and tireless dedication to addressing systemic issues like poverty, poor education, and weak institutional accountability.

Kayendera is not a career politician chasing prestige; he is a patriotic servant driven by the desire to restore dignity to public office and to amplify the voices of the voiceless.

His running mate position is not symbolic; it represents the PCP’s serious commitment to ensuring that the presidency and vice presidency work hand in hand to implement a people-centered agenda.

Together with Jordan Sauti, he forms a leadership duo that is credible, balanced, and capable of lifting Malawi from the weight of misgovernance and economic instability.

Timothy Kayendera is also known for his exceptional communication skills and his ability to unite people across ethnic, regional, and political divides.

His diplomatic nature, combined with his firm belief in constitutionalism and participatory governance, makes him a reassuring presence for both the electorate and institutional partners.

The decision by PCP to pair Jordan Sauti with Timothy Kayendera has received widespread commendation, especially from young professionals, civil society leaders, and rural constituencies who are tired of recycled leadership.

It is clear that Kayendera represents a generational shift—a departure from the politics of entitlement to a politics of purpose and servant leadership.

Road to September 16: APM’s Campaign Momentum Grows as “Ansah” T-shirts hit the Streets

As Malawi moves closer to the September 16, 2025 General Election, campaign activities are intensifying across the country.

Supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have already started mobilizing on the ground with increasing visibility and energy.

One of the clear signs of the DPP’s growing momentum is the early appearance of branded campaign material, particularly the popular T-shirts bearing the name “Ansah.”

These T-shirts are associated with former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM), who is the party’s presidential candidate for the 2025 elections.

The term “Ansah” is being used symbolically to represent the party’s running mate, former Malawi Electoral Commission Chairperson Jane Ansah, who has been named as APM’s vice-presidential pick.

The release of these T-shirts well ahead of official campaign rallies reflects a highly organized and determined campaign strategy.

It also underscores the confidence and preparedness within the DPP machinery as it seeks to return to power.

Across many trading centers and townships, youths and party loyalists can already be seen wearing the “APM is the Ansah” T-shirts—signaling the campaign’s growing traction.

The phrase has quickly become a slogan of identity, unity, and anticipation among Mutharika’s base, especially in the Southern Region where the DPP maintains a stronghold.

Political observers note that the early branding efforts are part of a calculated move to dominate public visibility and influence early voter sentiment.

It also suggests that the DPP is wasting no time in setting the tone of the campaign and asserting its relevance in this critical electoral season.

Meanwhile, supporters argue that the combination of APM and Jane Ansah reflects experience, credibility, and a no-nonsense leadership style that resonates with the electorate.

As more campaign materials are expected to roll out in the coming weeks, the DPP appears to be setting the pace among major parties in terms of ground mobilization and political communication.

With only a few weeks left before polling day, every move counts—and the early release of the “Ansah” T-shirts may just be the spark that rallies the base and sways undecided voters.

The road to September 16 is heating up—and for the DPP, it seems the engine has already started.

Muluzi criticizes last-minute revelation of running mates

Former President Bakili Muluzi has expressed concern over the growing trend of presidential candidates withholding the names of their running mates until the day they submit nomination papers, calling the practice disrespectful to voters.

Speaking to 247 Malawi News, Muluzi said it would be more transparent and beneficial for the public if candidates announced their running mates well in advance to allow for proper scrutiny.

Muluzi

“A running mate is not just a partner to the presidential candidate. This is someone who could potentially become the country’s vice president. There is no valid reason to spring such an important decision on voters at the last minute.Malawians deserve to know these individuals in good time,” said Muluzi.

The former United Democratic Front (UDF) leader pointed to his own precedent, noting that he introduced his running mate, the late Justin Malewezi, two years before the 1999 elections.

He added that he also publicly named Bingu wa Mutharika as his successor nearly two years ahead of the 2004 polls.

“It is a governance issue. You cannot keep people guessing or make surprise announcements. It is simply not fair. Hopefully, candidates in the future will handle this more responsibly,” he said.

Out of all presidential aspirants who have so far unveiled their running mates, only independent candidate Milward Tobias announced his running mate a day before presenting nomination papers.

The remaining  candidates waited until the day of submission to reveal their choices.
