FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have been crowned TNM Super League champions for the 2023 season following their 1-1 draw against Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The People’s team needed just a point to win the title while Silver on the other hand needed to beat the Ndirande outfit with a 4-0 margin.

The game on Sunday saw both sides creating many scoring opportunities but it was the visitors who dominated play in both halves.

Silver had a chance to take the lead just four minutes from kick-off when Chimwemwe Idana connected well a corner-kick taken by Duncan Nyoni but it was cleared by Bullets defense.

Moments later Lanjesi Nkhoma and Maxwell Phodo had scoring opportunities but Silver Strikers’ defense made sure to deny Bullets the lead.

Another opportunity came on the side of the central bankers in the 20th minute through George Chaomba who missed the opportunity with just the goalkeeper to beat.

A minute later, Maxwell Phodo’s powerful header from a Lanjesi Nkhoma’s cross was fumbled by Silver goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira.

The two sides continued with their search for an opener but it still ended goalless in the first half.

The second half saw both sides continuing from where they stopped in the first half but it was Bullets who found the back of the net first.

Patrick Mwaungulu put Bullets in the lead in the 58th minute but Silver equalised through Patrick Macheso who connected with a header a free-kick by Idana in the 75th minute.

After that, it was the visitors who dominated possession, creating many scoring opportunities but it still ended 1-all between the two sides.

The result means that Bullets have now won 17 top-flight titles since the league’s inception in 1986.

Elsewhere, Blue Eagles have been relegated from the top flight following their 1-2 loss to Mafco FC at Nankhaka Stadium.

The Area 30 side have finished the league with 35 points, level with Moyale Barracks but the Mzuzu-based soldiers have finished with a superior goal difference following their emphatic win on Sunday

Eagles have joined Red Lions and Extreme FC who were also confirmed relegated.

In other matches on the final day, Ekwendeni Hammers claimed a 2-1 victory against Dedza Dynamos while Moyale Barracks thumped their fellow soldiers Red Lions 7-0 at Mzuzu Stadium.

Civil Service United beat Mighty Mukuru Wanderers 1-nil and it ended goalless between Kamuzu Barracks and Mighty Tigers.

Bangwe All Stars were 2-nil winners against Karonga United while Chitipa United came from behind to beat Extreme FC 2-1 away at Chitowe Stadium.

Dedza Dynamos striker Clement Nyondo has finished the league as top goal scorer having scored 16 goals followed by Lanjesi Nkhoma who scored 14 goals.
