Silver Strikers missed a chance to climb top in the TNM Super League after falling to a 2-1 defeat to Civil Service United at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Two first half goals from Binwell Katinji and Luke Chima were enough to secure all three points for the civil servants who have now moved to position 7 on the log table.

Katinji put Civil in the lead just two minutes from kick-off after receiving a beautiful cross from Lloyd Aaron.

Chima then doubled the lead in the added time of the first half after connecting a throw-in taken by his captain Timothy Silwimba.

In the second half Silver introduced Emmanuel Muira and Stain Davie for Tatenda M’balaka and Chisomo Mpachika.

The change proved to be fruitful as the team started creating more scoring opportunities but still failed to get the back of the net.

Realizing that time was not their side, the central bankers introduced the fresh legs of Patrick Macheso for Chinsinsi Maonga to add power upfront.

Chimwemwe Idana then pulled one back for Silver in the 82nd minute after receiving a beautiful pass from Mark Fodya.

After the goal, Silver introduced Adiel Kaduya for Zebron Kalima as they kept on searching for an equaliser but to no avail.

Civil on the other hand made a couple of substitutions in the second half, bringing in Innocent Tanganyika, Arnold Masamba and William Mwalwimba for goal scorer Luke Chima, Muhamad Biason and Damiano Kunje respectively.

In the dying minutes, Civil also introduced Dan Kumwenda for Lloyd Aaron and in the end they won the bragging rights for the capital city.

Malawi’s President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has asked churches in the country to actively take part in developing the nation, observing the country cannot rely on one sector but needs collective effort from all stakeholders.

He was speaking on Sunday in Lilongwe during thanksgiving prayers to God for his faithfulness both to the church and the nation, organized by Nkhoma Synod of the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP).

He thanked the church for the invitation, observing the fellowship during such prayers is meaningful and important.

“Before Malawi became a nation with leaders, it’s the church that was leading people since time immemorial and CCAP was a great part of it, so let us all rise and help each other to develop the Nation, let us hold hands in the development of Malawi because if we don’t do it, no one will come and do it for us, let us uphold our pride and honor in uplifting this nation” he said.

At the function, the president assured Malawians that his government will work hard in making farm inputs under the Affordable Input Program (AIP) subsidy program available in good time so that farmers can have good harvest.

He also pledged his government`s commitment to creating a conducive environment for the church to worship freely.

In his speech, Nkhoma Synod Moderator, Reverend Phillip Kambulire said the church will support the president in his effort to develop the country.

“We know that the president also wants this nation to develop, he wishes this nation well too but he cannot do everything by himself, he cannot go into people’s homes to work for them, he cannot go to people’s farms and farm for them. So, as individual members of the church, we need to work hard and bring success to our homes because this success will contribute to the nations development,” said Kambulire.

He said Nkhoma synod will continue praying for the president and his government and encouraged everyone to stop complaining but to thank God all the times.

Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) Board Chairman Sunduzwayo Madise has advised Malawi National Netball Team players ‘The Queens’ to have discipline and avoid divisions among themselves at the ongoing Netball World Cup matches in South Africa.

Madise said this at the team’s lodging site, Stay Easy Hotel in Cape Town following a leaked video which showed the team accusing shooter Mwai Kumwenda of snubbing coach Sam Kanyenda in Friday’s defeat to England in their second pool match at the World Cup.

Madise

” If you have issues with each other deal with them internally and not on social media,” explained Madise.

He added that authorities in the Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) must show strong leadership skills by taking control of administrative issues.

Meanwhile,NAM says in a statement that it is already on top of the issue and that the Queens have put everything behind and are ready to ‘die for mother Malawi’ on the pitch.

The Queens are this morning playing Barbados in the last group B match.

They lost to England yesterday.
