Civil works on the rehabilitation of M1 road has officially started.

According to reports reaching this publication, diversions have already started being created from Mponela.

What it means is that motorists will be using the diversions while the contractor will be working on the road.

Many have described M1 road as a death trap.

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera launched the project on 12 July, 2022.

During the launch Chakwera said the rehabilitation of M1 Road is crucial to the economic development of the country.

Dr Chakwera while speaking at Mtiti Primary School Ground in Dowa during a development rally held after unveiling a plaque marking the official launch of the M1 Road rehabilitation works said by constructing the M1 road, he is sending a message to Malawians that development matters and should benefit all Malawians from Nsanje to Chitipa.

Dr Chakwera then thanked the European Investment Bank and the European Union for financing the project which he said will create over 4000 jobs in the country.

He said the over 300 kilometres stretch will also help provide confidence to development partners that even dualisation of the same road shortly will be possible.

The President, therefore, warned corrupt individuals to stay away from the project or face the law.

In his remarks, the representative of the European Investment Bank in Southern Africa, Jim Hodges, said they have committed huge sums of money after looking at the importance of the project.

His words were echoed by the former European Union representative to Malawi, Bartek Studniarask, who said the road offers a great opportunity to Malawi as the country needs to fully engage in international trade.

Mutharika will be 89 by 2025 why do some people want him to stand? Below are the reasons

On 17April, 2023, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Senior National Governing Council (NGC) member, Ken Msonda advised former President Peter Mutharika to shelve his plans which some greedy and misguided politicians are advancing.

The politicians do not wish Mutharika well by forcing him to stand at the age of 89. Many people have commented on this saying these people dont wish Mutharika well but rather they want him killed by political pressure coming with the campaign.

These greedy’ DPP gurus who mercilessly plundered and looted taxpayers money through dubious means have ganged-up to endorse ageing Peter Mutharika as the party’s presidential candidate for 2025 presidential polls in order for them to continue looting should Mutharika win the polls.

Mutharika

Mutharika will turn 89 in 2025 when the elections are due and this is too much.

According to some sources within DPP, the endorsements are political charade aimed at fooling Malawians to believe as if Mutharika is loved in all the four political regions.

The development has angered some sectors of the party, who have described the move as a dark day in DPP family as APM already announced that he would not stand again considering his age and falling health.

This appetite of continuing the plunder of state coffers is not wellcome in democracy.

Already some people are already answering charges for looting and abusing APM’s Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) TIP number by doing their personal business and nothing to do with state residences.

Bird’s Eye View: Dont fool us, APM not standing

By Linda Kwanjana

One thing that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) bigots supporting Arthur Peter Mutharikas candidature in 2025 should know for sure is that Malawians are not fools.

The events of the past two weeks or so are quite foolish.
It started with the northern region leadership of the party led by former Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe claiming that the entire region wants Mutharika to stand again in 2025.

To avoid being outwitted, the DPP central regional committee followed suit with their endorsement of the former president’s candidature in the next presidential race.
Every Malawian who follows local politics knew that the litany of endorsements would continue to every level of the party’s leadership including at the Branch level. As it is now, fears are that it can go as far as the family level.

The southern region committee went a bit too far because it is outrageous in democratic Malawi to say the DPP belongs to the southern region.
Our colleagues in the north spoke. The central region committee spoke. And we said no, we are the owners of the party in the southern region. So Sir! Whether one likes it or not, APM is standing again in 2025, screamed one of the speakers during their caucus at the regional office in Sunny Side Township on Monday

.

Now, as I have already said, Malawians are not fools. We know the gimmick APMs camp in DPP is playing.
Through his spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba, APM has told the nation that he is still consulting and praying on what decision to make following the endorsements.
One would ask, who is APM consulting? Namalomba goes further to say his boss is happy that the endorsements are even coming from people from remote areas.

When you are living in a fools paradise, you think everybody is also a fool. Malawians know that Mutharika is not standing again and that all this hullaballoo going on is to clear the way for Dalitso Kabambe.
Two factors have prompted the APM ayimenso campaign. The Mutharika camp knows that once the embattled DPP vice president for the south Kondwani Nankhumwa wins the presidency candidature at the forthcoming convention, Thyolo or the family has lost grip on the party.
Secondly, they are sure that Kabambe, who currently has not held any substantive position in DPP, cannot win against Nankhumwa. Their wish to have the former Reserve Bank Governor as a presidential candidate in 2025 is non-existent.

The plan is to have the APM ayimenso campaign gain momentum, which will lead to other aspirants withdrawing from the race and rallying behind him. The battle at the convention will be between APM and Nankhumwa.
Nankhumwa will definitely be scorned, intimidated and even put his life in danger. It will not be an easy road to the convention for the power hungry Kondwani George Malemia Nankhumwa.

The strategy is to have APM resign at some point after winning during the convention and appoint Kabambe as acting president of the party. The whole scheming is to have Kabambe, the homeboy, take over the DPP leadership by hook or crook.
It is just a confirmation that the DPP is a family party because Kabambe is APMs nephew. Malawians cannot be fooled to think that the DPP is going through a cleansing process. NO!

Mutharika

Msonda tells APM: go and enjoy your pension

Firebrand politician who is also National Governing Council (NGC) member Ken Msonda has rubbished calls which some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) zealots are advancing that Peter Mutharika should again represent the party in 2025.

Msonda says people are misleading Professor Mutharika by forcing him to stand during the 2025 elections.

Msonda said the divisions started in 2020 when the party fired three senior party members who include ; Yusuf Nthenda, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Secretary General Grezelder wa Jeffrey.

For this reason Msonda said MCP will win with landslide come 2025 because he believes the DPP is the only party which can stage a formidable fight against the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in 2025.

“If you drink your Mtonjani and think of unseating President Chakwera forget about it. Chakwera will win with landslide come 2025 especially by the fact that he is surrounded by cream of politicians like Sosten Gwengwe, Richard Chimwendo Banda, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma and many other capable politicians,” he said.

Msonda said as a way forward, Mutharika should call for National Governing Council (NGC) meeting and discuss way forward and ironing out problems rocking the party.
