FCB Nyasa Big Bullets are through to the semifinals of the Airtel Top 8 after beating Creck Sporting Club 1-0 at Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

Both sides started the game very well but it was Creck who first knocked on Bullets’ door through George Chaomba but his header went wide after receiving a cross from Hadgi Wali.

Chaomba had another opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute when he managed to beat Bullets’ Yankho Singo at the back but goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba managed to save the situation.

Bullets’ clearcut chance came in the 28th minute when Henry Chawaya’s cross found Maxwell Phodo who made no mistake but to head the ball home to give the visitors the lead.

Wongani Lungu almost doubled the lead for the People’s team in the 32nd minute but his shot was accidentally blocked by his teammate Babatunde Adepoju.

With just four minutes before half time George Chaomba almost leveled the scores after being set by Wali but his header was denied by the woodwork.

In the second half Creck Sporting continued to search for an equaliser as they created numerous scoring opportunities but Bullets  proved to be too strong at the back as they managed to defend the slender lead until the final whistle.

The win means that Bullets are through to the semifinals as the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

The People’s team who are also the defending champions will face the winner between Silver Strikers and Moyale Barraks in the semifinals.

The Thava Second Grade Magistrate’s Court has convicted and fined two students from Malamulo College of Health Sciences, for theft contravening section 278 of the Penal Code.

The two are Ernest Major and Maurice Bongoloro and they are both aged 20.

Court proceedings, led by State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Editor Kansasi, established that the two connived to steal under the pretence of charging their cellphones in their fellow students’ hostel.

The theft came to light when one of the victims woke up and discovered that a Samsung Galaxy and an Itel A70 phone were missing.

Sub Inspector Editor Kansasi,

According to Thyolo Police Public Relations Officer Rabecca Kashoti, a search was conducted, and the stolen phones were later found hidden in a nearby woodlot.

She said, “During interrogation, Major confessed to stealing the phones and handing them over to Bongoloro, who masterminded the hiding of the stolen items.”

Both Major and Bongoloro pleaded guilty to the charge. In mitigation, they asked for leniency, citing that they were college students. However, Prosecutor Kansasi argued for stiffer penalties, stating that the theft was premeditated.

Passing the sentence, Magistrate Hygiene Mowe agreed with the state’s submission and ordered each to pay a fine of K200,000 or, in default, serve 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

Major hails from Awali Village, Traditional Authority Nthiramanja in Mulanje, while Bongoloro comes from Guziwa Village, Traditional Authority Nkhulambe in Phalombe District.
