By Linda Kwanjana

The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has assured all bona-fide soccer loving Malawians that the TNM Super League match between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will be played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday 1st July, 2023.
The match will be of Goliath and David crossing swords with the best team of the day to win and the bad loser of the day to go home with sad faces making player number 12 to speak on top of the voice, that things are not good on the ground.

The clash of the giants is coming at a time that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers supporters are not happy with the standard of play being displayed by their team in what prompted the supporters twice to block their players from boarding their bus telling them to walk on foot to their homes.

General Secretary Williams Banda,

FCB Big Bullets will come into the field of play to win as per the claims of many of its supporters that Bullets is a winning side come rain or sunshine but in a game of football, one should expect the impossible to be possible, all players must play to the last whistle.

In a statement released by SULOM dated 28th June, 2023 signed by its General Secretary Williams Banda, the SULOM says it will provide adequate security including Police, Stewards and Private Security companies.

The SULOM says no spectators shall be allowed entry into the stadium carrying alcoholic drinks and to go beyond the barricades in the open stands warning all that will be going into the stadium that appropriate action including arrest shall be effected on anyone attempting to go beyond the barricades.

The organization says all gates shall be opened at 8 a.m to allow moderated and smooth entry into the stadium saying those to watch the match at the open stands will pay K3,000, MBC Stands K5,000, covered stands K8,000 while VIP stand K15,000.

“All the measures are aimed at reducing congestion, facilitate smooth entry into the stadium and ensuring that there is a safe and secure stadium environment for all,’’ reads part of the statement.

Africa needs investment, not debt – Chakwera

By Kumbukani Kondowe

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has said what Africa needs is investment and not debt for the continent’s economy to be delivered from the shackles it is in.

He said this when he delivered his key note address at the opening ceremony of the Third China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation (CAETE) Forum, where he was invited as the guest of honor.

“It is an honourable thing to bring Africa from the burdens of chronic debt and, instead, invest in the continent,” said Chakwera.

The Malawi leader described CAETE as a “defining moment for the global economy” stressing that China and Africa are partners in common pursuit of prosperity hence the need for continued support and partnership.

“China and Africa represent one third of the world population and its consumer market translates into one fifth of global GDP, this is why Africans have come here with dignity as traders and not as beggars but rather seeking their rightful place in the global economic partnerships that already exist,” he said.

He added: “It is time to imagine new partnerships whose economic dividends are exponential to the developing economies and African countries have a lot of catching up to do.”

The President stressed that it is time for Africa to reject and, indeed, do away with deals designed to impede and limit progress of the continent, adding that the growth must be seen and outrun external forces such as economic effects brought by climate change.

In his speech, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Han Zheng, said China has always considered solidarity and cooperation with African countries an essential element of its foreign policy and, as such, it is ready to reinforce mutual support with African countries on issues involving core interests and major concerns for both parties.

“China is a champion of win-win Cooperation and works to put the principle into action,” said Han, adding, “China-Africa friendship has its roots and lifeblood in the people and the goal of China-Africa relations is to benefit the people.”

The Chinese vice president, added that the two sides have, for long, valued people to people exchanges so that Chinese people and African people know each other.

The China Africa Economic and Trade Expo is a 4-day event where African businesses will showcase their products and sell them to Chinese investors. Apart from opening the event, President Chakwera will meet different officials for bilateral talks.
