Two in custody for stealing a motor vehicle in Ntchisi

Police in Ntchisi are keeping in custody two people for allegedly breaking into Kaphatika Catholic Parish Stores and stole a red Kavac motorcycle worth K950,000.

According to Ntchisi Police Publicist, Yohane Tasowana, the two are Edward Chimkwende, 31 and John Mayala, 25.



Tasowana says, police recovered the motorcycle at Kanengo in Lilongwe where the suspects were offering it for sale.

They will appear in court soon to answer breaking charges.

Chimkwende hails from Chimkwende Village, whilst Mayala from Malaya Village, both in Traditional Authority ( TA) Chilooko in Ntchisi District.

Lilongwe, Blantyre schools re-open next week

The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 and Cholera has announced that schools in Lilongwe and Blantyre cities, which remain closed due to the cholera outbreak, will open next week Tuesday
January 17, 2023.

Co-chairperson of the committee who is also Minister of health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda disclosed this during a media briefing in Lilongwe on Thursday January 12,2023.

Chiponda, who was accompanied by other cabinet ministers such as Abida Sidick Mia of Water and Sanitation, Gospel Kazako of Information and Agness Nyalonje of Education, said, so far, measures have been put in place to prevent the spread of the disease in schools.

She said for instance, the taskforce has banned the sell of food within school premises and that all schools have been provided with chlorine to help in disinfection



On her part, Minister of water and sanitation Abida Mia disclosed out of the required 20 billion kwacha to help in containing the outbreak, the country has received 14 billion kwacha from donor partners.

On January 2,2023, the government through the presidential task force on corona virus and cholera directed that schools in Blantyre and Lilongwe should not open as planned, due to escalating cholera cases and deaths in the two cities.

Driemo, is a Malawian Singer,Song writer and an Actor.

Born and Raised in Nkhotakota, the youthful artist is labelled as one of the most talented upcoming Artists in Malawi.

He Started his music Journey in 2017 in Nkhotakota where he was most of the times featured to do Choruses on people’s songs.

In 2018,he recorded his first single titled ‘So good’ which was produced by Superfly.

After,he then recorded His most singles in 2018 to 2020 under the name of Smart P before he changed to Driemo.

After Changing to Driemo,h released an EP in 2020 titled ‘Love Letter’ Which was produced by Taktic.

He then released his next single songs in 2021, the likes of Mtendere, because of you, Tebulo,Duma, Love you More and No insurance.

His Dream is to take Malawian music industry to greater heights and become one of the most influential Artists in Malawi.

Silver Strikers supporters executive committee dissolved for inciting violences

Silver Strikers board has announced the immediate dissolution of its supporters executive committee.

According to a statement signed by the company’s secretary Peter Masiye the decision has been arrived at because the committee has allegedly been inciting violence and failed to control supporters on January 7,2023 and uttering statements that would bring football into dispute.

The statement further condemns in strongest terms uttering of statements such as suggestions to bribe referees and promote use of JuJu for the club to be winning games.



Reads the statement in part ” The board strongly condemns such conduct and utterances, and any promotion of any acts that could bring the game of football into disputes.”

It adds ” As a game, we remain committed to work with all key stakeholders including our supporters and their leadership in promoting football in Malawi.”

Meanwhile, the board has invited all the club’s supporters to a meeting on Saturday 14th at silver stadium.

Yesterday, the team’s Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali said that he has taken a step asking board not to renew his contract following death threats from some section of the supporters.

Breaking News!Bullets fire defender Hadji Wali for indiscipline

Reports reaching our news desk indicate that Nyasa Bullets has sacked one of its defenders Hadji Wali over disciplinary issues.

One of the club’s officials confided in 247 Malawi News but could not give out more details.

In September last year, Wali went missing from Nyasa Big Bullets camp just days before the team’s match against city rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and went missing again towards the end of the just ended TNM Super League season.



The People’s team signed the player as a free agent after Silver Strikers axed him in 2021 after he went missing for close to 3 months.

He later joined Bullets and scored the only goal of the match on his debut against his former team in a Charity Shield.
