One of the country’s renowned entrepreneurs, Kondwani Kachamba Ngwira, has advised new graduates to embrace entrepreneurship as an alternative to the prevailing job scarcity in the country.

Ngwira was speaking on Friday in Blantyre when 125 students were awarded with various certificates and diplomas in different areas of specialisation under the Soche Technical and Vocational College in Blantyre.

Ngwira stressed that it is not only paid jobs that matter in today’s livelihood, but that it is also important to sustain lives through entrepreneurship drive.

“Today’s livelihood is very competitive as we have a huge number of school leavers looking for jobs. The companies that we have cannot absorb the numbers. Therefore, Entrepreneurship is another way to sustain one’s life,” he said.

Ngwira observed that the economic shocks affecting the country are making it hard for the private sector to strive and employ school leavers, a situation which he said is contributing to the job scarcity in the country.

The entrepreneur further appealed to authorities to support the school leavers with seed capital and training so as to encourage them to venture into entrepreneurship industry.

Ngwira advised the graduates to be flag bearers wherever they go and endeavour to make a difference.

In his remarks, head of the construction department for the college, Paul Malunga said graduation is an affirmation of the collective mission to build capacity of the public and private sectors through training, research, consultancy and advisory services for enhanced performance.

“Our courses are designed in such a way that students can stand on their own to prosper in life,”said Malunga.

He added that the college has made it easier for more malawians to pursue studies and careers in various disciplines and that the course contents have been designed to suit the local environment making it easier for graduates to easily assimilate into the industries in Malawi.

The graduation ceremony also witnessed a number of well-performed graduates getting job contracts with the Project Innovations Centre(PIC) to boost their seed capital and venture into entrepreneurship thereafter.
