Flames coach Marinica names squad for Mozambique Africa Nations Qualifier

Flames Head coach Mario Marinica has named a 28-man provisional squad that is expected to go into camp on Sunday in preparation for TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Algeria 2022 second round qualifier against Mozambique later this month.



The following is the full squad:

Goalkeepers: Charles Thom (Silver Strikers), Clever Nkungula (Nyasa Big Bullets), Dalitso Khungwa (Waka Waka Tigers), Joshua Woka- (KB Reserve)

Gwamba, Kell Kay and Nyondo sues Martse’s brother

Following a video that went viral from Jerome Nkhata, brother to the late rapper Martin Nkhata in which he claimed that there was suspicions over his brother’s death- those allegedly mentioned to be the masterminders have gone to court

247Malawi has seen a summon that has been issued to Jerome. In the video Jerome said Gwamba, Ephraim Nyondo and Kell Kay could have been involved in the ritual murder of his brother Martse

Another one also issued with the summon is Prophet George Chinoko, the last person to speak to Martse before his death, who again released a video to confirm that Martse was ritually sacrificed and the Gwamba was the name that was largely mentioned by the late rapper

New British High Commissioner Presents Letters of Credence to Chakwera

Ms Fiona Ritchie presented her Letters of Credence to HE Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday 4 August 2022 at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe to become the next resident British High Commissioner to Malawi.

The new UK envoy to Malawi said she was delighted and honoured to be taking up her role as British High Commissioner to further strengthen the existing warm and historic ties between the two countries.



“The UK is proud of its long and deep friendship with Malawi and I look forward to taking this partnership to even greater heights, championing Malawi in the UK and internationally and supporting Malawi’s own ambitions to drive economic growth, promote freedom and democracy, and deliver accountable public services for its people.” said Ritchie.

Before assuming the role of British High Commissioner, Ritchie was Development Director at the British High Commission, Lilongwe. She has held various roles in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in the UK. She has also represented the UK at UN Headquarters in New York and supported development programmes in South Sudan, Afghanistan and Iraq

Man earns 21years for defiling step-daughter

The Kasungu Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday July 25, 2022 convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old man, Hamman lsaac Lemon, to 21 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling and impregnating his 15-year- old step-daughter.

The court through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Dalitso Ng’oma, heard that the convict between the month of July and October 2021, has been defilling the victim when her mother was away.

The court further learnt that it was in August last year when the victim fall very sick and she was taken to a traditional healer where it was revealed that she was pregnant and she revealed that her step- father was responsible for the pregnant.

The victim then reported the matter to his biological father who letter reported the matter to Kasungu Police Station who issued the victim with a referral letter and results from Kasungu District Hospital proved that the victim was four months pregnant.

Appearing in court, the convict pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement. This prompted the state to parade five witnesses to prove the case.

In mitigation, the convict pleaded for leniency, saying he is takes care of his aged uncle.

In his submission, the state prayed for a stiffer punishment, saying that being the father, it was his responsibility to take good care of the victim, but instead he deliberately defiled the girl and also gave the victim a life time trauma.

Passing sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Biar Kamanga concurred with the state’s submission hence sentenced him to 21 years jail term to deter would-be offenders.

Hammman Isaac Lemon comes from Kanyindula Village in Traditional Authority Authority Kapelula in Kasungu District.

In a related development, the same court has convicted and sentenced a 61-year-old man, Chuma Samuel from Nkhota Village in Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu to 16 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling and a 9-year-old girl.

The court through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Martha Mwenechanya heard that the convict committed the offence on July 21 2022 when the victim was playing with her friends within Nkhota Trading Centre and enticed her with a K100 bank note .

The issue came to light when the victim’s friends reported the issue to the victim’s mother.
