“While we recognize that these measures may not resolve all the challenges associated with devaluation, our intent is to contribute towards easing the impact of price fluctuations,” reads part of the statement.

The statement further emphasize on the importance of evaluating the spending patterns and making judicious decisions inorder to navigate the volatility effectively.

The country’s electoral body Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it is investigating a complaint that Malawi Congress Party (MCP) candidate Willard Gwengwe who is leading unofficial results for Dedza Central Constituency By-election was going around polling stations as voting was in progress on Thursday.

Addressing the press in Dedza after the close of voting on Thursday, MEC Chairperson Chifundo Kachale, said the electoral body will also probe claims of an unregistered person, voting in the same by-election.

Gwengwe

Kachale, a judge of the High Court of Malawi, said MEC has received a complaint from one of the contesting parties about Gwengwe’s conduct.

He said MEC will look into the issue and determine whether it has impacted the outcome of the election.

“On that incident, we require our presiding officers to actually give us comprehensive incident reports as part of the final report for the polling.

“We will assess the evidence on that issue and make a determination whether that conduct has impacted the result of the poll and that will be determined when we meet as a commission to determine the results tomorrow,” said Kachale.

The Dedza Central Constituency seat fell vacant after the death of former legislator Daniel Chiwere in July this year.

Three candidates, namely Gwengwe, Andrew Kowedza of DPP and independent Jacob Kaumphawi tussled in the trace.

Unofficial elections results this evening have put Gwengwe ahead followed by Kaumphawi, with Kowedza trailing a distant third.

President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has been in power for only three years. With two years to spare before the completion of his first term, Malawians have observed a number of noticiable differences to the leadership we had before him. This is a leader working tirelessly to improve the lives of people.

Women in Ntchisi too have seen a lot of praiseworthy things in their leader, they have ended up composing a song “Msamaliya” in honour of him.

The women were heard singing during the official launch of AGCOM in Ntchisi before the “Msamaliya Wa Chifundo took the podium to address the gathering.

Msamaliya wa Chifundo Chakwera

This has been long coming but someone had to say it, either through a poem or the way it has been done-through a song celebrating a leader who is changing lives for his people.

“Msamaliya Wa Chifundo is a story of a Good Samaritan inspired from the Bible. The story was told by Jesus Christ in the Gospel of St Luke Chapter 10 vs 30-37.

This is a story of a man who was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho. On his way he was attacked by the unknown assailants who stripped him his clothes, beat him up and left him half dead. A lof of his people including the Priests and the Levites could not take pity on him. It took a traveller who was not even of jewish tribe to stop and attend to this man. Jesus called this man a “Good Samaritan or “Msamaliya Wa Chifundo”.

The story has resonated with people for centuries and it will continue to do until the end of human race.

In our case, these Ntchisi women are not misplacing it, calling President Chakwera a Good Samaritan.

The irony between the two scenarios is so revealing. Chakwera is a person who inherited a broken country in need of repair. A bleeding society in need of stitches. Before him were leaders who never cared about the suffering of Malawians. They looted resources meant for the poor with careless abandon. They did not feel pity about the plight of Malawians.

People are still asking, why did it take long to have a leader like him. Msamaliya Wa Chifundo wabwera.
