Former Vice President and leader of Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD) Cassim Chilumpha has accused the current ruling Tonse Alliance government of failing to end corruption in the country as it promised during campaign.

Speaking at Nyambadwe primary school ground in Ndirande, Blantyre on Sunday where he held a political rally, Chilumpha said Tonse Alliance promised Malawians that it will end corruption which is dragging Malawi behind in terms of development but that has until now not been complimented.

Cassim Chilumpha

The Ex-Veep claimed that the involvement of vice president Dr. Saulos Chilima in the $280,000 corruption case is a clear indication that the Tonse Alliance administration has failed to end corruption in Malawi

He urged people to vote for him as Malawi president during 2025 general elections if Malawi is to do well in all aspects of development.

According to Chilumpha, the prevailing challenges of hunger, fuel shortage and high cost of living under Tonse Alliance warrant a change of leadership in 2025.

He said once voted into power,he will introduce a 10-member cabinet so as to avoid careless plunder of public resources.

Chilumpha added that his leadership will also ensure smooth cash flow in the country.

“We want Malawians to have money and that is why ADD is here for. That is why I am here for.I am urging you to vote wisely in 2025,” he said.

Chilumpha served as the country’s vice president from 2004 to 2009.

The PIM served as the focal point of the 1915 Chilembwe uprising. In the aftermath of the uprising, the government shut the PIM down and either executed or imprisoned most of its leaders. The government demolished its main church, the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, after recapturing the village of Mbombwe in which it was situated. The PIM remained closed until 1926, when it reopened under the leadership of former student Daniel Sharpe Malekebu. Malekebu led the PIM until 1971, for a total of 45 years. .

Just seconds before the end of the first half, Bangwe won a free-kick which was beautifully taken by Yamikani Mologeni to the far post leaving Silver Strikers goalkeeper Charles Thom standing, arms akimbo in disbelief as it ended 2-nil in favor of the rookies at half time.

In the second half, Silver Strikers coach Pieter De Jhong made a number of changes, replacing Stain Davie and James Tambwali with veteran striker Atusaye Nyondo and Mathews Masamba in the 56th minute.

The changes yielded some results as Adiel Kaduya scored the first goal for the visitors in the 60th minute after an assist by Nyondo.

Two minutes later, Nyondo found the back of the net with a beautiful header connecting well a corner kick beautifully taken by Chinsisi Maonga.

Just when everyone thought it was going to end in a draw, Saizi completed his brace at 90th minute as he connected well an Emmanuel Lino’s pass to give the home side the much needed victory to the delight of coach Abel Mkandawire.

It was a disappointing afternoon for Silver Strikers who were hoping for a win to find themselves back at the summit of the log table.

The loss means the central bankers are stuck on position four in the standings with 32 points a point behind Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Chitipa United who are perched on position two and three respectively.

Bangwe All Stars are now on position eight with 24 points after playing 18 games.

FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who are in Equatorial Guinea playing in the Caf Champions league this evening, remain top with 34 points and they have played a game less than the rest of the top four teams.

The Mchinji-based side remain bottom in the standings while Mafco are now fourth from the bottom, level on points with Red Lions who are on position 14 but the Zomba-based soldiers have a game to play.

Elsewhere, Karonga United thumped Ekwendeni Hammers 4-1 at Karonga Stadium to move two places up on the log table.
