World Bank commends Chakwera for commitment in human capital investment despite challenges

Dr Victoria Kwakwa who is World Bank Regional Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, has commended Malawi leader President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for his efforts in promoting human capital agenda.

Kwakwa said Malawi has put up a grand fight in human capital investment despite challenges facing the nation.

Kwakwa was speaking on Wednesday after meeting Malawi delegation led by President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, at Julius Nyerere Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

She said Malawi has made progress over the past 20 years but needs to do more as the population is still growing.

She then reaffirmed World Bank’s strong commitment to support Malawi.

Speaking during the summit, the Malawi President called on fellow African leaders to invest more in youth and skills development to accelerate Human Capital Development to achieve African Agenda 2063.

Addressing delegates, President Chakwera said channeling more resources to the youth and skills development will widen economic opportunities which will in turn make the agenda 2063 possible.

Chakwera said his government, will invest between 15 and 20 percent of the national budget in multiple effect ministries such as Education, Health, Labour and Youth, as a way of ensuring that the youth realize their potential, skills and contribute positively to agenda 2063.

Speaking during his departure at Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe, Chakwera said human capital remains key for Malawi to attain Sustainable Development Goals (DDGs).

Chakwera said with human capital, Malawi can be turned into an inclusively wealthy and industrialised nation.

Said the President: “When you are talking about Malawi 2063, so we become an inclusively wealthy industrialised, self reliant nation, and when you are talking about SDGs 2030, these things can’t really happen without human capital development. You will notice that our vision is youth centric, and so the young people will need to be educated, stay healthy and have innovative minds that are capable of creating that future.”

Chakwera said healthy and well nurtured youths are the engine for social and economic development growth.

One of the country’s leading car hire companies Diplomats Car Hire has on Wednesday handed over a brand new Nissan Patrol V8 to musician Tay Grin for his role in promoting the fight against albino abductions through the movie called ‘Misnomer’.

Misnomer is a Malawian movie that uses entertainment and art to promote the fight against abductions among persons with albinism.

The car handover ceremony took place at the company’s VVIP car show case room in Area 10,Lilongwe.

In an interview, the movie’s sponsorship Manager and event coordinator Temwani Jeffrey Luhanga said the event was organized with an aim of celebrating the sponsorship from Diplomats car hire to the movie in which Tay Grin is playing a vital role of promoting it.

“Tay Grin has committed to join this fight using his voice and brand in the movie after it premiered this weekend in Malawi,” said Luhanga.

On his part,Diplomats Car Hire Deputy Managing Director Mr. Mthalika hailed the people who have shot Misnomer movie for being in forefront in the fight against albino abductions in the country.

Said Mthalika :” We commend team Misnomer for prioritizing the fight for integrity, security and respect for people with albinism. It resonates very well with Diplomats core values which include integrity and respect.

“Entertainment especially film making is a powerful tool for social change . We saw what Sarafina did to the fight against Apartheid. We are thrilled to be a part of this movement. When Misnomer Crew approached us for assistance we were pleased to learn that all the actors in the movie committed themselves to the noble cause.”

In his short speech, Tay Grin thanked Diplomats car hire for the gift.

He encouraged people to watch Misnomer movie.

Violet a girl with albinism who presented persons with albinism at the event expressed her happiness to witness the occasion.

She said nowadays, it is hard for them to trust anyone including their relatives as they always live in fear .

Violet said she believes that the Misnomer movie will now be a powerful tool to use in the fight against abductions of people with albinism.

She then urged several people to support the movie.

EKhaya foods gives NPL sports editor Garry Chirwa K2.16 million to cover Queens’ Netball World Cup matches in South Africa

Ekhaya Farm Foods, a company owned by Malawi’s business magnet Thom Mpinganjira has given Nation Publications Limited (NPL) sports editor, Garry Chirwa K2. 16 million for him to fly off to Cape Town, South Africa and cover the Malawi Queens’ campaign at the Netball World Cup.

Ekhaya Group of Companies’ executive assistant Tabitha Mwando said the amount covers Chirwa’s return air-ticket, accommodation and food while in South Africa.


She said they saw it fit to fund the trip as a way of helping to improve the Queens’ visibility.

“As you know, Queens always make Malawi proud and they are loved by the public who need to be frequently updated about the team’s performance at the global show-piece which is taking place on African soil for the first time,” she said.

“Chirwa is an acclaimed journalist who we feel will help to give the public a 360-degree angle as regards the Queens performance at the world cup,” she added.

On his part, Chirwa thanked Ekhaya for trusting him to cover the Queens’ world cup live through NPL’s online and print platforms.

K Banton ropes in his brother Shammah Vocals in a new song “Adani”

One of Malawi’s fast rising hip-hop artist K Banton has announced dates for the release of his new single titled “Adani” which features his elder brother Shammah Vocals.

Making the announcement on social media the rapper, real-name Khumbo Sitola said the song which has been produced by Macia will premiered on August 7 inside Joy Nathu’s Made on Monday program on Radio 2 FM.

The last time the two artists worked together on a song was in 2017 when they released “Alipo” which received massive airplay in different platforms.
