Malawi First splits over Kalindo’s personal interests

By Vincent Gunde

Deputy President of Malawi First, a group of revolutionaries that have been organizing demonstrations to present a petition to President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera to listen to the cries of Malawians Sir Charles Ben Longwe, has spits vomit over his President Hon. Bon Elias Kalindo against his personal interests.

Ben Longwe has claimed that he has been reliably informed that Kalindo held a private meeting with Attorney General Thabo Chakaka-Nyirenda at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre to drop all court charges which he has including that of illegal connection of ESCOM cables at his house in Area 25-Lilongwe.

Kalindo

Kalindo is reported to have been accompanied by some other members of Malawi First Group and a picture that is circulating in various social media platforms showing Kalido squatting before Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda at the burial ceremony of renown musician Thomas Chibade, has added more salt to the allegations levelled against Kalindo and Kalindo himself has not yet responded to Longwe’s allegations.

Speaking through an audio clip, Ben Longwe said Kalindo has been telling Malawians that he is the President of the poor in Malawi while at the same time, he has failed to represent the poor for their benefit but self -interest.
Ben Longwe said he had full trust that Kalindo is matured enough to lead Malawians in the struggle to liberate the country from the shackles of MCP dictatorship but the way Kalindo has been seen, he is fighting for his own freedom.
He said he and Comrade Redson Munlo have been sourcing funds from well wishers organizing demonstrations in Malawi including payments to lawyers representing Kalindo in court but Kalindo has proved that his interest is beyond those of Malawians.

The Activist has claimed that demonstrations which were slated to be held on 25th October, 2023 will be led by Kalindo, him and Redson Munlo will not take part alleging that the stakeholders meeting to be held on Monday 23rd October, 2023 at the District Commissioner’s office in Lilongwe have ill-motives of arresting one of them.

He said according to well placed sources, District Commissioner for Lilongwe Dr. Lawford Palani has already communicated to police to arrest Comrade Redson Munlo for treason charges of holding demonstrations aimed at forcing President Chakwera to resign from office.
“Comrade Munlo is not coming to the stakeholders meeting, let Hon. Kalindo himself attend the stakeholders meeting and lead Malawians in the anticipated demonstrations slated on 25th October, 2023,” said Ben Longwe.
He has assured Malawians that he has Plan B of holding demonstrations in the country and he will not leave Malawians alone despite Malawi First failure to achieve its intended objectives of liberating the country from the hands of the MCP led government.

Dowa Mtsinje chieftaincy wrangle refuses to die

By Vincent Gunde

In the matter of Mtsinje Chieftaincy in Dowa district, Legal Practitioners of Mr. Paul Mtandika, Mtupila and Company wrote a letter to Dowa District Commissioner Stallich Mwambiwa reminding him of a long case involving the chieftaincy between their client and one, Mr. Benjamin Tenthani who now is illegally occupying the throne as Sub Traditional Authority Mtsinje.

The Lawyers in the letter dated 5th September, 2023 said the court ruled in favour of their client Mr. Paul Mtandika and this was communicated to his office for so many times reminding him that on 10th August, 2023 the Mtsinje family communicated to the District Commissioner about the matter too.

Gogo Paulo Mtandika…. rightful heir to the throne of Sub. T/A Mtsinje…….

In the letter, the Lawyers expressed their concern that it appears no action is being taken by the office of the District Commissioner in the spirit of dealing with the matter civilly and expeditiously seeking an audience with the DC to establish why his office is not complying with the court order and the decision of the family to meet on 12th September, 2023.

The office of the District Commissioner summoned the two sides of Mr. Paul Mtandika and Mr. Benjamin Tenthani to come to the office on Wednesday 11th October, 2023 to discuss issues concerning the chieftaincy wrangles between Sub Traditional Authority Mtsinje and Group Village Headman Mtsinje.

The office of the District Commissioner reminded the family sides that when coming, they should bring all the court ruling documents in their possession and all those documents concerning the issue, but it has been established that the side of Mr. Paul Mtandika didn’t go to the DC’s office.
“Why holding discussions outside the court ruling, this is contempt of court, the court judgement is there that Mr. Paul Mtandika is the rightful heir to the throne,” that’s the family arguments.

It has also been discovered that the side of Mr. Benjamin Tenthani went alone to the office of the DC dividing themselves into two, with the other side representing as Mr. Paul Mtandika, while Inkosi Mponela opted not to accompany them a development which has puzzled the family of Mr. Paul Mtandika that the matter was discussed with the losing side.

On 24th September, 2015 High Court Judge Dr. Chifundo Kachale ruled that Mr. Paul Mtandika was the rightful heir to the throne of GVH Mtsinje, nullifies any purported appointment of Mr. Benjamin Tenthani as either GVH or Senior GVH Mtsinje and the elevation to Sub Traditional Authority Mtsinje.
Hon. Justice Lovemore Chikopa SC of the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal ordered within 28 days all the records to be settled and lodged with a full appeal bundle to be at hand for the matter to qualify for hearing in the next session of the court, Mr. Benjamin Tentani did not lodge any complaint.

Sub Traditional Authority Mtsinje was one of the nine Group Village Heads of Dowa who were elevated to that position by former President Madam Dr. Joyce Banda in 2013 and what is very strange is that two of those chiefs-Mtsinje and Kasalika are not working, they are all under Inkosi Mponela-a Ngoni chief.

Likoma Island will soon be a hub of trade activities following the construction of a new state of the art port courtesy of President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s administration.

Likoma Port project which is on the verge of completion, was earmarked to be a mere basic jetty but the Chakwera government made a number of adjustments, upgrading the status of the project from a jetty to a port fitted with heavy duty cranes that are capable of loading and off loading huge amounts of cargo.

Once completed, the K8 billion Port would become quite handy as it will be used as a swing port to facilitate movement of cargo from Mbamba Bay in Tanzania to Malawi.

Economic analysts say the upgrade is of great significance in relation to the Mtwara Corridor, a World Bank and African Development Bank (ADB) Project to facilitate movement of cargo and trade development amongst the four countries – Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia.

President Chakwera toured the facility on Tuesday 24th October 2023 to appreciate the construction of new state of the art structure.
