A lone goal from Patrick Macheso got the job done for Silver Strikers as they get maximum points after outclassing city rivals Civil Service United in a 1-0 derby win at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

Macheso scored with a close range finish after receiving a pass from Maxwell Paipi.

It was a sweet revenge for the central bankers as they were beaten 2-1 by Civil on the same venue in the first round of the TNM Super league.

Despite the win, Silver remain third on the log table with 39 points after playing 22 games, four points behind leaders Mighty Mukuru Wanderers who have also played the same number of games as Silver.

In Kalonga, Lamadhan Ntafu’s 88th minute goal proved decisive as Chitipa United beat Red Lions 1-0 to go second in the standings.

The first round match between the two sides ended 1-nil in favour of the Zomba-based soldiers courtesy of Devie Meja’s 64th minute goal.

Chitipa have now moved two points ahead of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who are perched on 3rd position with 40 points but have played four games less than the Chitipa-based side.

On Sunday, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will be on a revenge mission as they take on Extreme FC at the Kamuzu Stadium.

In the first round, the Nomads lost 1-0 to the Mchinji-based side in a match that took place on 11 June at Bingu National Stadium (BNS)

Extreme remain bottom on the log table with 14 points followed by Red Lions and Civil who have just accumulated 18 and 25 points respectively.
