Medicine Stores owners protest against new policies

Members of Association of Medicine Store Owners( AMSO) on Friday held peaceful demonstrations in the capital Lilongwe.

According to the Association,the demos are against policies that are set by the Pharmacy and Medicine Regulatory Authority.


Among others,the protestors were calling upon the authority to reevaluate certain policies that are allegedly impeding the growth of their businesses.

The medicine store owners believe that once the policies are revised, the business environment will be favorable for professional development.

DPP should forget going back into power

In their Democratic Progressive Party 2019 – 2024 manifesto the party says it is unbreakable.

“This is part of the legacy of our
founder, Professor Bingu wa
Mutharika. We are the DPP.
We are unbreakable. We are
unstoppable.”

This has proved to be a blue lie considering in-house fighting which the party is going through.

There are numerous court cases currently piling in courts and DPP politics is becoming interesting as the elective convention draws closer.



Recently the party fired Southern region Governor Charles Mchacha for not endorsing professor Peter Mutharika as 2025 torch bearer of the party.

That happened after firing three regional party cadres for the north and these include; Northern Regional Governor Ackim Mwanza, Director of Women Joyce Chikukula and Regional Youth Director Kelvin Chirambo who were illegally fired by APM.

APM has made a decision to stand at the convention and he is likely to meet his match so any one talking ill against his wishes is regarded as adversary and an enemy.

As we speak the 3 fired officials have obtained an injunction at Mzuzu High Court through lawyer George Kaziphatike.

Last week, Mutharika invited the three for a round table discussion where they were told of their firing. And this did not please the trio hence seeking court relief.

On the other hand the party is facing another suing for contemplating changing of convention date since there is growing rumour that some party officials belonging to APM camp are contemplating changing the date just to confuse the delegates.

Currently there are five candidates battling for the hot seat.

In an effort to deal with fuel supply challenges across the country, the country’s fuel supplying company, the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) says it has now added four more new suppliers of oil to its roster.

Micklas Reuben, Director of Operations at NOCMA confirmed of the development saying the new means of importing fuel will help the country overcome foreign exchange difficulties by 15 percent, as local firms are enlisted to help with the transportation of the commodity.

Reuben added that the move will also help to stabilize fuel availability in all depots across the country.



But when contacted, Martin Msimuko, General Manager of Petroleum Importers Limited (PIL) raised concerns over access to further fuel due to outstanding debts of $13 million to suppliers.

“Yes, it is a good development but still there are a lot to be done so as we see a good improvement,” he stressed.

NOCMA was established in 2010 under the Companies Act of 1984 and its Mandate is to manage a strategic fuel reserve facility in accordance with Government’s approved Strategic Fuel Reserve Management Plan; provide, at a fee, hospitality to new entrants as one way of promoting competition and promote upstream oil and gas exploration.

In order to effectively execute its mandate, NOCMA initiated several reforms under the Malawi Public Sector Reforms Programme that was launched by Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in February 2015.

Zimbambwe’s President Emerson Mnangagwa to visit Malawi next week

The Malawi Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that President of Zimbabwe Emerson Mnangagwa will from May 31 to June 2,2023 undertake a three-day state visit to Malawi.

According to Government, during his visit to Malawi, Mnangagwa who has been invited by President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera will carry out several official engagements including holding bilateral discussions with the Malawi leader on the matters of mutual interests to the two sisterly nations.

Meanwhile, the Government says the full details of Mnangagwa’s visit to the warm heart of Africa will be announced in due course.

Malawi and Zimbabwe have had a close history for a long time.

The two countries share common values, history and culture.

Along with Zambia, they were one country under the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland.

Malawi has a large Zimbabwean diaspora and Zimbabwe has a large Malawian diaspora.

Kansai Plascon Malawi pumps in K5 million towards Malawi Institute of Architect s annual general meeting

Kansai Plascon Malawi,a painting company has made a K5 million donation towards the ongoing Malawi Institute of Architects (MIA) annual general meeting being in Malawi’s lakeshore district of Mangochi.

In an interview with local media on Thursday, the company’s General Manager Yotam Katumbi said the architectural industry is a key stakeholder to the paint industry hence the financial support.

“We cannot do our business without buildings and those who play a vital role in erecting these buildings are architects. We thank them,” he said.



According to Katumbi, Plascon has made a good footprint in the country, as major structures across the country shine with their unique variety of paints.

On his part, the newly elected MIA president Khumbo Chirwa since then appreciated the financial support adding that Plascon has been a traditional sponsor of their annual gatherings.

The three day Malawi Institute of Architects event which started on Wednesday and ends today Friday has drawn players from both the private and public sector.

It is being held under the theme” Where is the architect? “.
