Chakwera fires Minister Lowe over AIP saga. Kawale new Agriculture Minister

President Lazarus Chakwera has fired Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe and his Deputy Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima over the handling of the AIP Fertiliser saga. He has since appointed Sam Kawale as the new Minister.

Chakwera announced this during the state of national address. The President said a litany of bad decisions about the program smack of high incompetence and gross negligence.

The Malawi leader says the contract which the Ministry went into with a British company which has allegedly duped the government of way over K750 million is unacceptable.

Chakwera says an instituted investigation shows that the Ministry paid sums of money to two different bank accounts in different countries

The President also announced that he has appointed Hon Sam Kawale as the Minister of Agriculture

Teen boy commits suicide in Ntaja after receiving a warning letter from Yoneco

A 17-year-old form three student at Ntaja CDSS in Machinga district Lauchi Bernard has committed suicide after receiving a warning letter from Yoneco that he was going to be arrested for having an affair with a 16-year-old girl.

The boy is reported to have been going around with the girl (name withheld) who is a student at a certain private secondary school in the area.

Apon realising about the affair, the girls’ parents lodged a complaint at Youth Net and Counselling (Yoneco) offices in the area whose officials sent the boy a warning letter on Monday morning.



Reports indicate that the letter was a warning to the boy that he was going to be arrested if he was going to continue his relationship with the girl.

This did not go down well with the boy who has just passed his JCE exams, and he took pesticides to take his own life.

He was found unconscious by his relatives and was then rushed to Ntaja Health Center where he was referred to Machinga District Hospital in Liwonde and was pronounced dead apon arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile police have confirmed about Benard’s death but declined to comment more on what might have prompted the boy to commit suicide.

The body of Lauchi Bernard has since been laid to rest in Ntaja. He hailed from Group Village Headman Ntaja in the district.

Bullets win FDH Cup after beating their reserve side 3-1

Nyasa Big Bullets on Sunday clinched the 2022 FDH Cup title after beating their reserve side Nyasa Big Bullets Reserve 3-1 in an entertaining match played at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Babatunde Adepoju put Bullets ahead with a quick tap in just 12 minutes from kick-off but Bullets Reserve equalised through Happy Mphepo just a minute before half time.

Chimwemwe Idana restored Bullets’ lead 67 minutes in the second half with a fabulous finish before Anthony Mfune sealed the victory for the main team 10 minutes later with a beautiful header after receiving a cross from Gomezgani Chirwa who also provided an assist for the first and second goal.



After the match Bullets defender Frank Willard was voted man of the match while striker Babatunde Adepoju received an award for finishing as top goal scorer with five goals.

Speaking in a post match interview, Nyasa Big Bullets coach Kalisto Pasuwa admitted that it was a tough game and praised his boys for putting up a spirited performance.

His counterpart Enos Chatama accepted defeat saying Bullets were just better than the junior team.

He said, “In the first half we played very well but in the second half Bullets came stronger on us. We lost a lot of possession especially in the midfield; Our colleagues were just better than us and they deserve the victory. Congratulations to them.”

Nyasa Big Bullets has now become the second team to win the FDH Bank Cup after Silver Strikers won its inaugural edition last year.

Get charges slashed down as Dimond, JK arrives for Lulu’s album launch

Music lovers will have to pay Five Thousand Kwacha less than it was earlier announced, to witness Lulu’s album launch at Lilongwe Golf Club on Sunday, the artist has announced.

Lulu made the announcement on Saturday evening at a press briefing which he conducted at Capital Hotel in Lilongwe alongside Tanzanian music heavyweight Diamond Platnumz and Zambian legendary musician Jordan Katembula known in music circles as JK.

“Today I am just super excited. Sitting next to these two great artists talking about my album launch is one of my greatest experiences. It is because of this excitement that I announce that gate charges for my album launch be reduced from Twenty Five Thousand Kwacha to Twenty Thousand Kwacha”, he said.



On their part Diamond Platinumz and JK said they were also excited to be back in Malawi and promised their fans nothing but best performances. They both hailed Lulu fo putting up a great album and also acknowledged other local artists like Patience Namadingo who they said are doing well in the music industry.

Meanwhile, Wasafi Records which is Diamond Platinumz’ record label, has announced through its producer, Laizer that the Tanzanian Super star and Lulu are in the studio recording a song together which will be premiered very soon.
