The First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera has officially opened Nguluwe Health Post at T/A Malili in Lilongwe. Speaking during the ceremony, Madame Chakwera said the development is a step towards universal health coverage and commended the community for taking initiative to ensure the facility is functional.

In her remarks, Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponde, disclosed that the government is committed to constructing 900 Health centers across Malawi (70 of which have already been completed in collaboration with development partners) to alleviate the pressure in district hospitals and ensure easy access to quality healthcare.

She appealed to health workers to ensure all resources are used efficiently for the benefit of the community and not misappropriated for personal gain.

Senior Chief Malili expressed his gratitude on behalf of the community, saying the health facility is a dream come true. He further appealed for the area to be connected to the electricity grid.

In her statement, Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza, highlighted that the health post would significantly reduce the travel distance for people from the area, who previously had to walk about 21 kilometers to Bwaira for healthcare.

She also mentioned that equipment for the health facility was procured using the Community Development Fund and urged the community to take responsibility for safeguarding and maintaining the facility.

Sendeza further underscored the importance of establishing a standalone maternity wing, providing women with access to comprehensive maternal care.

Board Chairperson for Mzuzu E-Hub, Julius Ng’oma has called on stakeholders to be supporting young entrepreneurs as a way of promoting youth participation in the development of the country.

Ng’oma was speaking Saturday in Mzuzu during a Business Incubation (Bizcubation) and Women in Business Pitch night where 12 young entrepreneurs made business presentations in their efforts to lobby for support for their initiatives.

“Through Bizcubation, we annually release vacancies for young entrepreneurs to apply for. This year’s cohort had 44 drawn from across the country. They underwent a three- month intensive training in leadership, branding and projections for their businesses and to enhance innovative reasoning,” Ng’oma said.

“Goverments prime focus is to implement efforts that will help entreprenuers especially youths to be innovative and generate wealth for our country.I therefore call for support to such initiatives as demonstrated by Mzuzu E-Hub where youths are best placed to offer solutions to economic problems,” said Kanthambi.

Speaking in an interview, founder of Echo Tech Solutions, Alice Ndau who was given a prize of K2, 500,000.00 for emerging winner of the Bizcubation Pitch said her company which deals in solar energy products wants to offer energy solutions to smallholder farmers in rural areas.
