Another Police officer dies after being hit by a car

In what appears to be an increase in the number of Police officers getting injured or dying due to being hit by cars, another officer based at Mbulumbuzi Police Unit in Chiradzulu has became the latest victim. Hedied after being hit by a motor vehicle on Tuesday night.

Chiradzulu Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Innocent Moses has confirmed that the accident occurred around 6pm close to a place called Gogo Kalonga Bottle store near Nyungwe Primary school along the John Chilembwe highway.Moses has identified the deceased as Sub-Inspector McDonald Wellemu of Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo District.

The Police publicist added that after being hit by the vehicle, the Wellemu sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures on his left leg and his left arm before being pronounced dead upon arrival at Namadzi Health Centre

Athelete Shantel Dave repairs broken borehole at Mapereka Primary School in Mulanje

Learners at Mapereka Primary School, Traditional Authority( T.A) Mabuka in Mulanje district can now breath a sigh of relief after athlete Shantel Davie repaired a broken borehole at the school.

According to the school authorities, the borehole has stayed over 10 years not function.

Speaking on Tuesday after the borehole get repaired, the School’s Head Teacher Joyce Mulima Kazembe, thanked Davie for the initiative.

Kazembe said the repaired borehole will now help learners and the community able to access clean water.

She added that at first before the borehole repaired, learners were walking long distances to search for water for mopping in the classrooms and toilets at the school.

“I am very happy because all the problems we had concerning water are now over . God should always bless Davie for what he has done here,” said Kazembe.

In her words, Jacquiline Thawani, a standard six learner at the school also expressed her excitement over the restoration of the borehole.

She said in past three years, classes were disturbed because the time when other learners were in class others were somewhere far from the school searching for drinking water.



Group Village head Kadewere ( Emmie Namakhwa) from Senior Chief Chikumbu in the district where Davie has also repaired some boreholes thanked the athlete for his charity works.

She said that as a Group Village Head, she will form up a committee that will look after the borehole.

“I ask God to bless Shantel for restoring the boreholes in my community because in past years we were fetching water at the river where we met snakes. With this repaired borehole, we are now we are happy that we will fetch water near home,” she thanked.

After repairing the borehole, Athlete Shantel Davie said he follows what the Bible and Qur’an teaches us that we should help those who are in need hence embarking on borehole repairing initiativeres so as to help those in need of help

He said “I am asking for well-wishers to help us so that we can reach many people in the country”.

Davie has been helping people through repairing boreholes since October, 2021 and as of now he has repaired over 40 boreholes in Mulanje district.

Malawi to have gigantic twin tower buildings in Lilongwe

Malawi is set to have two skyscraper buildings that will don the Capital City Lilongwe. Dubbed “The Capital Hill Twin Towers” the buildings will be the tallest buildings in Malawi when completed. This revelation was made by Lands Minister Hon Sam Kawale whose Ministry will be key in the construction of the towers.

According to Hon Sam Dalitso Kawale , these tallest Buildings will accommodate all Ministries that are renting outside the Capital Hill. About 8 Ministries are renting offices outside Capital Hill. Each building will have 20 floors.

“The Twin Towers will help government reduce the cost of rentals it pays for office space, currently at over Seven Billion Kwacha per year. This will eliminate future unfortunate and embarrassing situations where Ministries will have their offices closed by landlords for late payment of rent” wrote Kawale

He went on to say the Twin Towers will help decongest offices at Capital Hill as All Ministries are currently packed to capacity, some with four or five officers sharing a single room

The Capital Hill Twin Towers will add beauty to the City as the design will be a modern Design.The towers will also stand out as it will tower over all the buildings in the city, giving tourists a 360 degree view of Lilongwe.

On Monday 9th May 2022 the Minister of Lands Hon Sam Dalitso Kawale and the Minister of Finance Hon Sosten Alfred Gwengwe held a meeting to discuss the progress of the construction of the Capital Hill Twin Towers.

The towers will also stand out as it will tower over all the buildings in the city, giving tourists a 360 degree view of Lilongwe. Henceforth , the Capital Hill Twin Towers will be drawing people to Lilongwe to see sight over . These two buildings will be one of the most identifiable structures in Southern Africa.

President Chakwera reaffirms the cordial relationship between government and the church

President Lazarus Chakwera has once again said his government will ensure continued cordial working relationship with the church of CCAP, Nkhoma Synod and all other religious bodies in the country for the betterment of national development.

He was speaking after attending Sunday church service at Nkhoma CCAP in Lilongwe on May 7, 2022.

“We came to reaffirm the cordial working relationship between the government and the Nkhoma Synod which started long ago in around 1891. As we are aware the Synod has been supporting government in various sectors including Education and Health.

We will continue working with the Synod and a other churches by ensuring that freedom of worship is well respected and fully protected. As President, I am the President for everyone.” Said President Chakwera.

Malawi leader further assured the Synod that he and his administration will continue to listen to the advice from them with the mind to rebuild the nation because the church leadership has the passion for the nation.

“We will continue to stop the tendency of intimidating the church when they criticize the government or leadership because my administration respects democratic values and all pillars of democracy. You are free to give such advice that is helpful in the development of this country to the President and entire government machinery.” Added President Chakwera while warming that he will not tolerate the behaviour within his government.

On issues to do with corruption in the country, President Chakwera told the congregation that even the church has been heavily hit as some of those involved in the vice are church members, thereby appealing to the church to stand with the government in the fight against the practice.

President Chakwera then appealed the church to continue praying for the nation and the leadership at the time the country is going through numerous challenges which include climate change and covid-19. But he was quick to assure the nation that the country will be rescued from the hard situation, while thanking God for being faithful to the people of this country, and the Synod leadership for the warm welcome given to him during the church service he attended on Sunday.

On his part, Nkhoma Synod Moderator, Rev. Phillip Kambulire said the church was grateful to have the President congregated with them, saying the church has the responsibility to be praying for the leadership to maintain peace and order for the country.

“We as a church has the responsibility to pray for the you the President and the First Lady on the responsibility and the role God has given you. We will continue praying for you and the nation, knowing pretty well that when things are well with the government, it shall also be well for the church. The church and government are inseparable as the same people working with you in government are the same people we are serving in the church.” Said Nkhoma Synod Moderator.

He then made assurance that as a church, CCAP Nkhoma Synod will continue supporting government in developmental projects that serve the citizenry well enough.

Historically, President Lazarus Chakwera has become the fourth President to congregate at Nkhoma CCAP after late President Kamuzu Banda, former President Bakili Muluzi, and late President Bingu Wa Mutharika.
