Chakwera removes Senior Chief Kalumo from his position over failure to discharge his duties diligently

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has removed Senior Chief Kalumo of Ntchisi district from his position on allegation that he has been failing to discharge his duties diligently.

According to a notice letter from the President to Chief Kalumo, real name Yohane Ndudu, Chakwera has removed Ndudu in pursuant to powers vasted in him by Laws of Malawi, Chapter 22:03 Section II of the Chiefs Act.

The President has since then asked the loyal family to choose another heir to the throne.

Ndudu took his office in February 2014 amidst protests and court injunctions.

Aspiring MP Chasweka intends to improve livelihoods of the youths

Member of Parliament aspirants of Lilongwe south east Constituency Josephy Chasweka said he is intended to improve the livelihoods of the youths rather to stay idle.

Speaking after donating footballs at Chilinde primary school ground to the youths, Chasweka said there are many youths who are just idle which leads them to indulge into bad behaviors such as smoking and drinking beer everyday.

He said:” So as an aspirant MP I thought it wise that I should engage these youths to do some activities, so my donation of balls is to keep the youths busy so that they can altleast concentrate on something positive rather than leading on the destructive life.”

Chasweka: I have a big task to do for the people



Chasweka further said he is geared to to go to Parliament to represent the people of the Lilongwe south east Constituency come 2025 to awake the development projects that has been stagnant for the past three to four years ago and also to improve the the livelihoods of the elderly, people with disabilities and as far as the youths is concerned.

He said:” they are so many things which i would like to improve which our friends have done but they are have not done it accordingly.So I have to take over from where they have done so that we can improve the livelihoods of the people around the Constituency, so I have a big task to do for the people around this Constituency.

On his remarks Ambassadors football club captain Noel Banda hailed the aspirant MP for coming up with a brilliant donation that will help the sustainability of their team.

On his part block leader of the area James Batani commend the aspirant for the donation which will minimise the bad behaviours of the youths in his area through keeping themselves busy at the ground playing football games.

The aspirant donate balls worth K450,000 to three teams namely The Ambassadors, Tigwirane Manja and Chilinde Warriors football clubs.

Man arrested for creating IG’s fake facebook account to steal people’s properties

Innocent Kananji, 26, is in police custody for being suspected of creating a fake Facebook account of the Police Inspector General(IG) with an aim of stealing people’s money.

Kananji has been arrested by detectives from Cyber Crime Unit on suspicion that he created the fake account that bears the name and photo of the Police Inspector General, Meryln Yolamu.



According to the Malawi Police Service, the suspect is alleged to have used the account to dupe money from some youths amounting to K150,000 on the pretext that he would recruit them into the Malawi Police Service.

“Police investigations have also revealed that the suspect has different 13 Facebook accounts most of them bearing female names and pictures which are also investigated, ” reads part of the statement by the Service.

Kananji is expected to appear in court soon to answer the charge of cyber spamming contrary to Section 91 of Electronic Transaction and Cyber Security Act of 2016.

The suspect hails from Andasani village, T/A Sawali in Balaka District.

Actor Thlupego Chisiza laid to rest

The body of the late Thlupego Chisiza, a Malawi’s renowned stage actor has today been laid to rest at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre.

The late Thlupego, who died on Sunday at Ndirande Health Centre in Blantyre , contributed immensely to the growth of theatre and the creative sector in the country, through his Lions Theatre.

He wrote several productions including a political play titled Semo, which got him arrested while on stage at Robin’s Park in Blantyre during former President Bingu wa Mutharika’s regime.



He recently joined forces with his brother Tiwonge to form Remnants Lions Theatre Company, with the aim of reaching out to the masses with theatre performances and movies.

Together, they were on the verge of premiering a film titled Belinda.

Born on March 28, 1983, the renowned actor hailed from Karonga District.

Tragedy! 7 die in Karonga road accident

Seven people have died while several others have escaped with different degrees of injury after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Mlare area in Karonga district.

Sergeant George Mulewa, Public Relations Officer at Karonga Police Station has confirmed of the news.

According to Mulewa, the accident occurred in the afternoon of June 18, 2023 involving a ten-tonner Scania lorry registration number BZ 2986 driven by Isaac Simfukwe, coming from Karonga Boma heading to Nyungwe direction with fifty(50) passengers on board.



They were going for a funeral ceremony and upon arrival at Mlare area the front tyre got burst which resulted into the vehicle overturning upside down.

Mulewa says the seven people died on the spot due to severe head injuries and fractures while others are receiving treatment at Karonga District Hospital.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Lenford Munthali, 39, Rachel Munthali, 33, and Makhumbo Kalolokesha, 40, all from Karonga district.

The development comes barely few weeks after another deadly accident at Tenende Hills Chitipa-Karonga road which claimed lives of 25 people.

Meanwhile Police in the district are asking members of the public to visit to Karonga mortuary through Karonga Police Station to identify the other deceased if they suspect that their male relatives they believe were going to Mlare funeral ceremony by the stated motor vehicle, are missing.
