By Rahim Abdul

Head coach of Goshen City Dedza Dynamos FC, Alex Ngwira, has clarified that the club’s recent decision to release several players was made in agreement with his technical panel as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the squad.

Ngwira disclosed that he communicated his recommendations to the club’s executive immediately after the Castel Challenge Cup final against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Bingu National Stadium. The decisions, he said, were informed by a thorough assessment of players’ performance levels and conduct during the previous season.

“We made these decisions to create room for new additions who can improve the overall quality of the squad, especially considering our performance in both league and cup competitions last season,” Ngwira explained.

The coach emphasized that attention has now shifted to recruitment, expressing confidence that the executive will act swiftly to secure the targeted players ahead of the new campaign.

“With the new season set to kick off on April 18, 2026, through the Charity Shield, it is crucial that we bring in the players we have identified as soon as possible,” he said.

Ngwira further stressed the importance of early preparations, noting that integrating new signings into the team setup will be key to achieving better results in the upcoming season.

“We need to regroup with the new players and build cohesion. I trust that the executive is taking the necessary steps to support the technical team,” he added.

Meanwhile, the team is scheduled to regroup on Monday, March 23, 2026, marking the beginning of preparations for the new season.

The coach revealed that the break was intentional, allowing players adequate time to recover after a demanding campaign that extended into February.

“We had a long and competitive season, so it was important to give the players time to rest before returning to training,” Ngwira said.

As the squad reconvenes, the club is also expected to unveil new signings, signaling the start of a new chapter as Dedza Dynamos aim to improve their performance.

A Bumpy Ride Ahead: DPP gives Road Traffic Police a K25 Billion Revenue Target

By Joe Cholinga

Turbulent period awaits motorists in the country as the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has set a staggering K25 billion revenue target for the Malawi Police Service Road Traffic Department – an outrageous increase from the previous year’s K8 billion.

Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamveka has described the increase as a necessary response to rampant traffic violations.

Mwanamveka

Justifying the increase, Mwanamveka says the target is necessary because there are a lot of traffic violations on the roads.

“There are many vehicles breaking traffic rules, unroadworthy cars on the roads, and drivers without licences. These must be penalized. In fact, K25 billion is a modest target,” he said.

However,  the directive has unleashed a torrent of concerns. Motorists anticipate more frequent roadblocks, increased scrutiny on driving licenses, and rigorous checks on vehicle fitness and insurance documentation.

“How are they expecting to collect that much?” wondered Thomas Kalibwino, a local taxi driver. “It sounds more like a cash grab than an effort to improve road safety. More roadblocks, more inspections, it’s not going to be good for us.”

Meanwhile, Miriam Banda, a student who commutes daily to school, was anxious about the impending chaos.

“I don’t mind traffic rules, but it feels like it’s all about the money now,” she lamented. “I have seen how desperate some officers become during inspections.”

Dimba expresses dissatisfaction with Namalomba’s reaction

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Phirilanjuzi constituency, Dimba, has expressed his dissatisfaction with Namalomba’s response regarding the missing boy with albinism in his constituency. Dimba raised the issue in the August House concerning the disappearance of Chipiliro, a person with albinism, who went missing five days ago and has not been found, despite reporting the matter to the police.

“I, as a leader and representative of the people, am very worried about what happened to our brother, and we are anxious about the issue,” Dimba said. The lawmaker stated that his intention was to inform the Speaker and members of Parliament about the serious matter, not to politicize it, as Namalomba had assumed.

Dimba

Dimba described the missing person as an active member of society, having contested primary elections under the MCP ticket during the 2025 polls. He criticized Namalomba’s response as childish and unfortunate, saying he was not aware of who abducted Chipiliro. “I didn’t accuse anybody, including the government, but I was bringing the matter to the attention of the Honorable Minister of Homeland Security and the Speaker of Parliament,” he said.

Dimba added, “I want the government, through the police, to search for the missing person, as it is the government’s responsibility.”

In response, Deputy Leader of the House, Shadreck Namalomba, asked Malawians to join the government in questioning the leadership of MCP about their role in the abduction of people with albinism. “We are wondering, and we have statistics, that when we were in opposition, no single case was registered, but since we are in government, there are issues of missing people with albinism,” Namalomba said.

The Minister of Information accused MCP of being responsible for the abduction and killing of people with albinism. Namalomba later warned that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government will not tolerate such behavior and asked those responsible to stop, as the law will take its course.

Chipiliro comes from Chigonera village, Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda, in Lilongwe district.
