SWAM, FJA donates to cyclone survivors

Sports Writers Association of Malawi (SWAM) and Football Journalists Association (FJA) on Monday donated clothes and other items to the people affected by the Tropical Cyclone Freddy at Nguludi in Chiradzulu district.

Over 101 displaced persons who are currently seeking shelter at Nguludi Primary School in the district have received the donation.



Apart from clothes, members from the two associations also donated shoes, plastic cups and packets of fresh milk.

The two Associations have since released a statement thanking people both from within and outside the Associations for their generous contributions towards the donation.

Over 600 people were killed and over 500,000 people were displaced following the devastating cyclone that hit the country last month.

Phyzix, Giboh Pearson join forces in a new song ‘Chekera’

Rapper ‘Phyzix’ has teamed up with Giboh Pearson in a new song titled ‘Chekera’ which was released on Monday night.

Coincidentally the love song was released on the birthday of Phyzix’s wife Ruth Kulaisi who works as a television presenter at Zodiak Television.

The two versed song talks about a man who has just found love and is making a promise to the woman that he will never leave her.


In the chorus the _Idzathera ma penalty_ hit-maker encapsulates Phyzix’s message in a tuneful voice. The lyrics to the song’s chorus goes:

*Ndati za ine/ Zayera, yemwe ndimkasaka ndampeza/
Zachikondizi Kodi/
Unachekera, Kuchita kundikonda moonjeza/

Meanwhile, music followers have been reacting to the song on social media with many describing it as one the best songs to have come out from Malawi so far this year.

The song has been produced by Sameface and Stich Fray.

Paramount Holdings donates to Area 25 health centre

Paramount Holdings has swiftly moved in to revamp operations at Area 25 health centre in Lilongwe which was ransacked by angry residents two months ago.

The Company has donated medical equipment and cash for the continued renovation of the facility.

The donation is valued at K3 million.



Speaking at the presentation of the donation, the company’s Operations Director Nickson Nkhata said Area 25 health centre also serves employees of Paramount Holdings and their families hence the donation.

“After the vandalism, the State President visited this facility and he wanted it to be renovated, so there have been assessments to determine the extent of the damage but also how we can collectively bring it to its full functionality.

“It was difficult for our partners to do it on their own so we came in because we also manufacture and supply some medical items,” he said.

Receiving the donation, Director of Health and Social Services for Lilongwe District Health Office Wilson Chingani described the donation as the right step towards the full recovery of the health centre.

Paramount Holdings has among others donated hospital beds and cash.

The cash will be used to renovate other rooms at the facility.

Irate residents of Mgona in Lilongwe, ransacked Area 25 health centre at the peak of the Cholera pandemic after a member of the community died of the disease, they suspected foul in that death.

Chakwera pardons 200 inmates, Uladi Mussa, John Mussa included on the list

As part of Easter celebration,President Lazarus Chakwera has today pardoned 200 prisoners including former homeland security minister Uladi Mussa.

The President is also said to have pardoned a 19-year-old Mussa John who was convicted for being found in possession of Indian Hemp, locally known as Chamba.

All 200 pardoned inmates are those with minor cases.

Uladi Mussa was in 2020 handed a five year jail term over his role in a passport scam.

He was convicted of helping foreign nationals acquire citizenship fraudulently.

Atoti Manje expresses concern over use of foreign languages in the local songs

Atoti Manje of ‘Bazuka’ fame has expressed concern over the obsession of some local musicians with foreign languages in their songs.

Writing on his Facebook page, the ‘Ndizipepeseseko’ hit maker says he has observed that nowadays many artists are not sounding like Malawians in their songs.

“Malawi music needs to be assessed. It is very sad to note that great Malawian Musicians do not sound like Malawians. There is need for mindset change. Singing local sounds does not mean being backward,” reads part of his post in vernacular.

It adds”Until when shall we continue to sing foreign sounds…. When are we going to have our own music identity as a country ?.”

Atoti feels, most musicians in the country are not being appreciative of their local talents that define their culture.

The musician has also lashed out at event organizers for being obsessed with international artists who when they jet into the country, their touch of music is almost similar to some local artists.
