Chakwera to lead national day of prayers

Barely a day after returning from a week-long tour of duty in Washington DC where he attended the second United States-Africa Leaders’ Summit that was convened by President Joe Biden, President Lazarus Chakwera will tomorrow Wednesday December 21,2022 lead Malawians in the national day of prayers.

The event themed’ calling God to heal our nation’ will start at 8:00 am at Bingu International Convention Centre ( BICC) in Lilongwe.



In 2021, Chakwera also had time to call for 7 days of national prayer which was aimed at bringing together all believers and faith communities across the country to pray the end of dry spell which had hit the country.

The seven-day period had among other activities include fasting.

Cashier behind bars over K9.8 million in Mangochi

Police in Mangochi are keeping in custody a 42-year-old man Maganizo Chitseko, a cashier for Admarc based at Kawinga Depot on suspicion that he stole a sum of K9.8 million after selling 32,900kgs of maize.

According to Mangochi police station spokesperson, Amina Tepani Daudi, Chitseko, in the afternoon of December 15, 2022, was brought to police by some people while unconscious.



She said they claimed that he was robbed of the money by unknown criminals while he was passing ‘Tsanya Forest’ on a motorcycle on his way to Mangochi main Admarc office to deliver the cash, which is also said to be against his office policy to carry huge sums of money.

Tepani Daudi said, Chitseko, who had minor bruises on the stomach, thighs and arms believed to be of a razor blade cuts was referred to Mangochi District Hospital for treatment.

“Surprisingly, he was awoken by an injection when the nurse was placing a drip on his hand and was later treated as an outpatient after it was discovered that he faked the fainting,” explained Daudi.

Wanderers win first Airtel Top 8 title beating rivals ‘Nyasa Big Bullets’ 5-3 on penalties

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have won their first Airtel Top 8 title with a 5-3 win over city rivals Nyasa Big Bullets on post match penalties after a barren draw in the regulation time.

In a match that was played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, both sides struggled to create scoring opportunities in the first half but the Nomads played well in the second half.

The Nomads created a number of scoring opportunities especially in the dying minutes of the match but they still failed to find the back of the net and the match was to be decided by the spot kicks.

Bullets lost

Wanderers scored all their penalties through captain Stanley Sanudi, Francis Mkonda, Miracle Gabeya, Peter Cholopi and Vincent Nyangulu.

On the other hand Hassan Kajoke, Yamikani Fodya, and Babatude Adepoju scored the penalty kicks for the People’s team while Keston Simbi missed his spot kick.

The Lali Lubani boys have won the competition which was launched in 2017, without conceding a goal in regulation time.

As winners, the Nomads have received K17 million from Airtel while Bullets has pocketed K6 million and each participating team will receive K1 million.

Wanderers’ Chiukepo Msowoya, Bullets’ Lanjesi Nkhoma and Clement Nyondo from Dedza Dynamos have finished as top goal scorers with two goals.

The Airtel Top 8 win has ended Wanderers’ four-year trophy drought as the Nomads won their last competition in 2017 and it was the TNM Super League.

For coach Mark Harrison, this is the second trophy of his career as a manager after winning the 2015-16 with Township Rollers of Botswana.

Central Region Water Board warns its customers of dry taps over prolonged power outage

The Central Region Water Board has urged its customers to store enough water because prolonged power failures will likely affect water distribution.

This follows an announcement by ESCOM that there will be load shedding from 15 to 19 December,2021.



A statement by management for Central Region Water Board states that during the blackouts most of areas will run with low or no water pressure which will lead to dry taps.

According to CRWB with the development there is need for people to store enough water during the period.

Nyasa Big Bullets face Mukuru Wanderers in Airtel Top 8 ‘ Zamadolo’ finals

Old town rivals Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers will this afternoon face off at Bingu National Stadium ( BNS) in Lilongwe in the last call of Airtel Top 8 cup.

If Bullets win, it will well mean that this year the side will boast of claiming 82 million Kwacha from a treble of major trophies.

Bullets already took to account 40 Million Kwacha after being TNM Super League champions and 25 Million Kwacha from FDH Cup championship and the 17 million Kwacha today is in sight.

However, the face fierce rivals Wanderers who seek to claim a major honor in four years and one of its kind under the advice of coach Mark Harrison.



The breathless derby will be happening with a record that during the season in different encounters Wanderers lost 2 games with one draw against their archrivals Bullets.

In the field of play, the sights of soccer lovers will be on the two lethal almost all time scorers Vincent Nyangulu from Wanderers and Babatunde Adepoju from Bullets to see if they will propel their teams to become victors of the day.

Outside the field, its a battle for the bragging rights for supporters from both ends as Calisto Pasuwa’s tactics come in collision against Harrison.
