Hellen Buluma fires parting shots as she resigns from NOCMA

Acting Chief Executive Officer for National Oil Company of Malawi, NOCMA Hellen Buluma has resigned.

In a letter directed to the Board Chairperson for NOCMA Colleen Zamba, Buluma states that her last day in office is 18th November, 2022.

According to a letter that we have seen, Buluma says her decision has been reached after taking into account immerse pressure that she has faced in the past months from the Board Chair, Principal Secretary in the ministry of Energy Alfonso Chikuni and others to bring new fuel suppliers and expensive fuel financiers through dubious means.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Buluma just said, “I have indeed resigned,” she said.

Mukuru Wanderers, MAFCO FC risk FAM’s heft punishments over misconduct

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and MAFCO Football Clubs risk receiving heft punishments from the Football Association of Malawi following alleged misconducts during the Airtel top 8 quarterfinal match which took place on 6th November at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Communication from FAM disciplinary committee says Mighty Mukuru Wanderers supporters poured liquid substances on MAFCO players in the tunnel when they were going to the dressing room at half time.

The Nomads supporters are also said to have harassed a MAFCO kit master by confiscating papers from him at half time.

The other offence for Mighty Mukuru Wanderers is that the team failed to control its supporters from engaging in improper conduct as per Count 1 above and their actions brought the game of football, FAM and name of the sponsor into disrepute.



Meanwhile, the committee says for MAFCO, forward Richard Mbulu harassed match officials soon after the match by threatening to kill them and daring them never to come to Chitowe Stadium.

He later led a group of MAFCO players that blocked the match officials designated exit gate forcing the match officials to use another gate.

The second offence is that MAFCO FC failed to control their players from engaging in improper conduct as per Count 1 above and their actions brought the game of football, FAM and name of the sponsor into disrepute.

According to the charge sheets signed by Alfred Gunda Secretary General for FAM, the two team’s secretariats are required to provide their stand of charges within 48 hours.

First capital bank pumps in K5 million towards KUHES’s research dissemination conference

Malawi’s First Capital Bank has donated K5Million to Kamuzu University of Health and Sciences towards its Research Dessemination Conference to be held from 24 to 25 November 2022.

The conference will see researchers, experts and policy makers coming together to share knowledge and research outcomes that Kuhes has been conducting.

Speaking to local media after the donation, Twikale Chirwa-Head of Marketing and Communication for First Capital Bank said the bank realizes the importance of a health nation in economic development and that heath research plays a vital role towards achieving that.



” Kamuzu University of Health and Sciences is home to First Capital Bank as our relationship dates back to 20 years ago. As a bank we realize a health workforce propels the economy and that is why health support is one of our key CSR areas, “said Chirwa.

Meanwhile Dr. Benjamin Kumwenda Co-Chair for KUHES Research Dessemination Conference organizing committee has commended FCB for the financial support which the bank has been rendering towards the conference for the past five years now.

Dr. Kumwenda has since disclosed that Kuhes has made some breakthrough research in many areas including COVID 19 and malaria, whose findings will be shared during the conference.

Over 800 participants are expected at the Research Dessemination Conference with Minister of Education Agnes Nyalonje as guest of honor.

Blue Eagles beat Dedza Dynamos 3-0 in the Airtel Top 8

Blue Eagles started their campaign in the Airtel Top 8 with a 3-0 win over Dedza Dynamos.

Micium Mhone scored the opener for the Area 30 side in the 16th minute after he connected a well taken free-kick by Ian Chinyama.

The in-form Richard Rapson who was also voted man of the match, scored the second goal for Blue Eagles in the 69th minute before birthday boy Christopher Gototo scored with a thunderous shot 6 minutes later.

The two sides will meet again at Dedza Stadium on December 3 and the final match of the K78 million competition is expected to take place on December 17 at a venue to be announced by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM).



Blue Eagles became the second team to win the Airtel Top 8 Cup in 2018 after beating Nyasa Big Bullets 1-0 courtesy of Stewart Mbunge’s lone goal.

Other team’s that have also won the competition are Nyasa Big Bullets (2021) and Silver Strikers who won it twice in 2017 and 2019 after beating Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United respectively.

The winner of this year’s competition will receive K17 million ; runners up K6 million and all participating teams will pocket K1 million each.

19 out of 25 rescued on MV Ubale boat that sank in Nkhata Bay

The Malawi Police Service(MPS) says as of Saturday, November 12, 2022, 19 out of the 25 people who were in the ill-fated MV Ubale boat that sank in Nkhata Bay have been rescued.

The boat left Chizumulu Island with 25 people and bags of dried usipa on board in the evening of Friday, November 11, 2022.



Upon reaching few kilometres from the mainland near NkhataBay, engines of the boat developed faults and water started flowing into it until it sank.

Meanwhile, the MPS says the Marine Police, some fishermen and other well-wishers are still in the lake working jointly searching for the remaining six people who are still missing.
