Wanderers beat Mafco in first leg of Airtel top 8<br><br>

Mighty Mukuru Wanderers beat Mafco FC 2-0 in the first leg of the Airtel Top 8 Cup quarterfinal clash on Saturday.

Goals from Fransis Mkonda and Vincent Nyangulu in the first half gave the Nomads victory at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

In the second half both sides tried to create a number of scoring opportunities but failed to convert them into goals and it still ended 2-0 in favor of the home side.

The second leg of the quarterfinal clash will take place in the next three weeks at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa.

After the game, Wanderers goalkeeper Pilirani Mapira was voted player of the match and received K50, 000 from Airtel.

Tumaini Festival impresses

From Thursday to Saturday, Dzaleka Refugee camp was the place to be as it played host to the 8th edition of Tumaini Festival.

Founded in 2014, Tumaini Festival is aimed at using culture as a tool to bring people together, develop mutual understanding, and break down prejudices.

This year, the event was spiced up by scintillating performances by hip hop artist Gwamba, gospel musician Ethel Kamwendo, Atohti Manje, Don Tars, Provoice, Nyago and many more.



There were also other performances by Dzaleka Refugee Camp’s Amahoro drummers, Dzaleka Acrobatics, Breathe of Life, Cris Wapa Easy, Elikiah and DJ Hugo Pro.

United States Ambassador to Malawi David Young and officials from Ministry of Culture were among the people that patronised the event.

Speaking after witnessing the event for the fourth time, one music fanatic Emmanuel Mwanyongo said he was impressed with the way the event was organised.

“There is something special about Tumaini Festival, it gives you a real festival experience. Attended for the 4th time, I’ll surely come again next year. Congratulations Menes la Plume and team, ” he said.

TNM Super League: Blue Eagles reduce gap on league leaders

Blue Eagles have reduced the gap between themselves and TNM super league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets to two points with a 1-0 victory over struggling Sable Farming FC at the Nankhaka Stadium in Lilongwe.

Micium Mhone scored the only goal of the match just four minutes from kick-off.

After the game Blue Eagles’ player Paul Master was voted man of the match for his wonderful performance during the match.

The win has taken the Area 30 side to 59 points two points behind Bullets, and the People’s team have played two games less than the men in uniform.



Defeat has left Sable still hovering dangerously in the drop zone with a paltry 24 points from 28 games.

The Chiradzulu outfit has another daunting task on Sunday as they face Lilongwe giants Silver Strikers at Champion Stadium in Dowa.

In another match played on Saturday, Kamuzu Barracks managed to get maximum points away against fellow soldiers Moyale Barracks.

John Banda and Juma Yatina were on target for KB who are perched on number three with 54 points from 28 games.

Deceased Mzimba Radio Reporter Victor Tembo mourned

The media fraternity in the country led by the umbrella group MISA Malawi are mourning the untimely death untimely death of Mzimba Community Radio Reporter Victor Tembo.

Tembo died on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Mzuzu Central Hospital after a short illness.

Until his death, Tembo was Mzimba Radio’s deputy bureau chief in Mzuzu. He joined the station in September 2020.

Tembo graduated with a Diploma in Journalism in 2021. “He will be remembered as a dedicated and ambitious up-and-coming media practitioner. Our condolences go to the Tembo family, colleagues at Mzimba Community Radio and the media fraternity.” read the statement from MISA Malawi

Burial will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at his home village Emtiyani-Njuyu in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Mtwalo in Mzimba district.
