Central Region Water Board donates medical equipment towards NPL’s Mother’s Fun Run Initiative

The Central Region Water Board ( CRWB) on Wednesday September 21,2022 donated medical equipment worth MK10.9 million to Nation Publications Limited ( NPL) for its 2022 edition of Mother’s Fun Run ( MFR)–a safe motherhood initiative.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, CRWB Chief Executive Officer,John Makwenda said looking at the needs for Dowa District Hospital CRWB decided to contribute to safe motherhood by buying one delivery bed, an ultrasound machine , four wheelchairs and 30 pieces of wrappers.



“Our services are in the area of improving the health and well-being of the people.

” We thought that it is a good idea for us to be a partner in this effort where NPL is working with hospitals in Dowa trying to improve maternal health, said Makwenda.

Receiving the donation on behalf of NPL, the production and distribution manager, Alfred Mtaula described the donation as timely saying it contributes to an important social cause in Dowa adding that CRWB is being part of the change makers to attain the safe motherhood outcomes as outlined in the development agenda instruments.

Mtaula said “There is no ultrasound machine in the other 24 health facilities in Dowa district.

“This means that all cases including maternal cases requiring ultrasound services are referred to the district hospital for further management.”

This year, Mother’s Fun Run seeks to rsies a total of K150 million towards Dowa District Hospital.

Chakwera appeals for more funding to Least Developed Countries

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has appealed for more funding to Least Developed Countries (LDCs) to help them mitigate negative impacts brought about by climate change.

Chakwera’s appeal for assistance is coming at a time when the majority of LDCs are fighting for survival following the effects of Covid-19 pandemic, cyclones, and Ukraine – Russia war among others.

Chakwera who is the current LDCs chairperson made the remarks on Monday, September 19, 2022 at the Green Climate Fund summit in New York.



In his remarks, the Malawi leader explained that LDCs are finding it hard to finance climate change effects on their own due to effects of Covid – 19 pandemic, global economic slowdown and worsening debt situations.

“If we do not swim together, we will surely sink together, because climate change dies not respect border or care who has the most money,” said the president.

Chakwera added that Malawi is in dire need of investors to partner in the fight against climate change – induced disasters.

“Hundreds of thousands of Malawians require food assistance because their crops were destroyed by climate – induced drought and flooding,” said Chakwera.

“The country is rationing electricity following the destruction of a 130 Megawatt Kapichira Hydroelectric Power Plant by Cyclones Ana and Gombe, as a result of these things, we have seen our development progress reversed before our very eyes.”

Chakwera is expected to make his maiden speech at the 77th United Nations General Assembly in New York, on Thursday, September 22,2022.

Singers Saint, Hilco to drop New Music

Afro-pop singers Saint and Hilco are expected to release their new singles this evening titled ‘Make’ and ‘Cha Ndii’ respectively.

Saint who is one of the artists expected to perform at this year’s Sand Music Festival in Salima says ‘Make’ will be premiered on Joy Nathu’s Made On Monday radio program.

According to Saint,real-name Yamikani Chikwawe, the song has been produced by Viddiex Fya and he believes is going to be loved by many music followers.

On the other hand Hilco says ‘Cha Ndii’ is going to be another big tune just like ‘Pemphero’ which he collaborated with Sangie.

The song has been produced by renowned producers Sispance and Tricky Beats.

The Balaka based star has been working super hard on her new track and new EP titled ‘Maluwa’ which will be ready to unveil it to fans this evening.

According to the 27 year- old singer, people will be able to purchase her EP starting from this evening.

Presidential Golf Charity gets a K5 million boost from Sunbird Malawi

In its support of the Presidential Golf Charity Initiative, Sunbird Malawi on Monday September 19, 2022 donated K5 million towards the move.

Speaking when receiving the donation, Sunbird head of sales, marketing and distribution, Temwa Kanjaza said Sunbird is committed to supporting education in the country hence they decided to donate towards the cause.

She said Sunbird wants to see needy students pursue their education.

On his turn, the initiative’s fundraising and marketing team chairperson Boyd Luwe commended Sunbird for the support saying it will go along way in supporting the needy students.



He called on other well wishers to come in and support the cause.

The initiative which is targeting to raise K250 million was established by President Lazarus Chakwera with an aim of raising funds to among others help needy students from secondary schools and higher learning institutions’ students.

The event will take place on October 8,2022 with Chakwera and his Vice, Saulos Chilima, expected to attend.

Wendy Harawa Album Launch- Bushiri buys CD at K16 Million

Gospel musician Wendy Harawa’s Wandiyitana’ album launch was sold out as music lovers filled to capacity the 1,500 seater Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) auditorium in Lilongwe on Sunday night.

Renowned American gospel singer Travis Greene, Zambian popular musician Abel Chungu, Malawi’s finest music performers Lulu and Paul Kachala were among the musicians that entertained people during the night.

The album launch was also streamed live at Wendy Harawa’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

During the event Phophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary, purchased the ‘Wandiyitana’ CD at the highest price of 16 million kwacha followed by Minister of Youth and Sports Richard Chimwendo Banda who bought the album at 1.2 million kwacha.



President Lazarus Chakwera’s son Pastor Nick Chakwera and his wife Rudo who also happens to be Harawa’s close friends bought the CD at 1 million kwacha.

Popular musician-cum politician Lucius Banda and Tadala Chihana wife to Leader of Alliance for Democracy (Aford) Enoch Chihana, bought the album at 800 thousand kwacha.

Gospel hip-hop musician Gwamba bought the CD at 600 thousand kwacha and many more fans purchased the CD at various prices.

Meanwhile the ‘Unalonjeza’ hit maker has since thanked her fans for the support they have been giving her throughout her music career to this date.
