In his remarks, Mkandawire who is also Malawi Congress Party’ vice President applauded the leadership of Sukasanje military camp for ensuring cordial relationship between with the surrounding community which has made it easy to curb crimes in the area, saying it remains President Chakwera’s priority to unite all Malawian people.

The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate’s Court has sentenced 37-year-old Chisomo Mazoni to 8 years in prison for discharging semen in the mouth of a 9-year-old boy.

Mazoni was found guilty on Thursday August 25 2022 on a charge of sexual activity with a child.

The offence, which contravenes Section 160B(1) of the Penal code, attracts a maximum 14-year jail term.

State Prosecutor Sub Inspector Steve Galleta, who is based at Namitete Police Post, told the court that the convict committed the crime on May 25 2022 at Sinsamala Village Traditional Authority (T/A) Kalolo in the district.

Galleta said the convict called the boy into his bedroom and enticed him to lick his manhood in exchange of a K100 note and roasted goat skin, as payment.

The little child complied until the convict ejaculated in his mouth.

Later, the victim narrated his ordeal to his mother, who took the matter up to Nathenje Police Post.

In his trial, Mazoni pleaded not guilty and the State paraded four witnesses to prove its case.

In his submission, Galleta argued the convict’s actions were deplorable and shocking; hence the need to mete out a meaningful sentence.

However, Mazoni prayed for leniency, citing huge family obligations.

But Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza agreed with the State and sentenced the convict to eight years imprisonment with hard labour.

Mazoni comes from Sinsamala Village T/A Kalolo in Lilongwe District.

Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked President Lazarus Chakwera to rise up to the occasion by coming up with an action plan to address the current power outages that are causing a lot of suffering to Malawians and crippling the private sector.

Nankhumwa says Malawians trusted president Chakwera to power with an expectation for a better life, hence, he should stop blaming the mistakes of a past regime but work to transform Malawi.

“The reality on the ground is that Malawians are suffering as far as issues regarding energy in the country are concerned,” says Nankhumwa

He adds: “I am looking at small scale businesses that use electricity; we have chicken farmers that have got incubators, we have welders, we have barber shops, we have salons and several others that are failing to make profits because of frequent blackouts.”

The call comes barely a few days after President Chakwera tasked the Minister of Energy to probe the frequent blackouts, with the joint parliamentary committee doing the same.
