Health workers urged to desist from drug theft

By Kondanani Chilimunthaka

Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has urged Health workers in the country to desist from being engaged in drug theft and care of the equipment in the public health facilities.

She was speaking on Friday, May 6,2022 at Ntcheu District Hospital in Ntcheu after visiting the facility alongside Manjawira and Dzunje Health Centres in the district.

“I would like to appeal to you Health workers to play your part, let us take care of the equipment in our facilities and desist from engaging in drug pilferage. It saddens me as your Minister when I hear that a Health worker has been arrested for stealing drugs. It’s sad because I know that a person who was a bread winner in the family will lose job and the family will suffer.” Said Chiponda while assuring the workers that her Ministry is committed to see to it that numerous challenges facing the health sector and its workers are resolved.

Further, the Minister described the visit in the district at various Health Centres as important inn offering opportunity to interact with both Health Service providers and the Community to appreciate some of the challenges the two groups are facing on ground in the course of providing and receiving services.

“This interface also provides opportunity to learn and understand our successes, best practices, key priorities in health services delivery, including community health.” Added Kandodo.

She then appealed for good working relationship between her Ministry staff and the community, saying this promotes good health service delivery among citizenry.

The Health Minister has since commended the District Commissioner, Director of Health and Social Services, and the entire management of Ntcheu District Health staff for their continued support in the implementation of health services, including community health.

President Chakwera warns Public officers against corruption and embezzlement of Public Resources

0

By Kondanani Chilimunthaka

President Lazarus Chakwera has issued a stun warning against those dealing in corruption, bribery, and embezzlement of public resources, saying he will not tolerate such behaviours, but will let the long arm of the law deal with such individuals accordingly.

He was made the remarks at Mitundu Primary School grounds in the area of Senior Chief Chiseka in Lilongwe on Friday, May 6,2022 during a developmental rally he held after officially opening the LUANAR Building and Teaching facility.

Addressing a huge crowd that gathered, President Chakwera said it is sad that even those entrusted to enforce the law are involved in corrupt acts.

“Our own sons and daughters making sure that the AIP doesn’t succeed this season, collecting IDs for beneficiaries, selling bags full of sand as bags of fertilizer, some exporting fertilizer to other neighboring countries, conniving with some chiefs, including police officers instead of enforcing the law, are found at the center of such malpractices.

We are even aware of those who are going around some offices issuing intimidations with the aim of getting bribes. We will deal with them.” Warned the President.

In his speech, President Chakwera also warned those working at the Central Medical Stores to be at watch on their conduct as he will not allow the abuse of the facility and misuse of government drugs.

Here, the Malawi leader wondered why health standards have gone down over the years, saying time has come to bring back the lost glory to the country in the health sector and all other sectors just as it used to be in the times of Kamuzu.

But, President Chakwera in his speech expressed happiness that people are open to say their problems and their expectations, adding that it indicates that people have now understood his vision and adopted it.

Part of development rally at Mitundu

“This vision I am talking about is the one to move us as a nation from acute poverty which has put us in slavery for years, but it is only if we are not lazy as a nation, Masomphenya amenewa sakwanilitsidwa ndi manjalende) Said President Chakwera while encouraging Malawians to work hard for national development.

On completion of the Lilongwe University for Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) project, President Chakwera said it has given his administration an opportunity to bankroll other new projects on the campus and in other areas which he said some will start within the next three months on top of those already in progress.

But President Chakwera who kept saying the country is going through different problems, regretted the conduct of the previous administration which he said cheated Malawians by lying to international organizations and donor partners on economic stand for the country that left the country in huge debts.
