Health Minister Khumbize off to Dubai after Airtel Holiday win, takes random Heath Assistant with her

Minister of Health, Honorable Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has flown off to Dubai in United Arab Emirates for a one week Airtel Boola Mtambo promotion holiday.

The trip comes following her win in a draw that took place in December, 2021 through customer numbers of which the emerged winning number was for Hon. Kandodo Chiponda.

“I am going to Dubai after winning Airtel promotion that started around October last year though I did not even know about it only to get surprised with a call that I have won such a promotion through buying internet bundles using my Airtel SIM card.” Said Kandodo at Kamuzu International Airport to a number of reporters who went to witness her departure.

Hon Khumbize and Esther Nyozani ready to depart for Dubai

Accompanying Kandodo is Ester Nyozani, a Health Suivellance Assistant for Dzunje Health Center in Ntcheu who found herself on the trip following the random selection Kandodo’ ministry did across the country to find one HSA to accompany Kandodo Chiponda following her request and thorough discussion with the ministry officials to do so.

“Following the condition the Airtel company gave to have one person to accompany me, I also did a random selection through my ministry officials, in which Ester Nyozani became a lucky winner, and here Iam today at KIA to fly out to Dubai with Nyozani.”

Kandodo Chiponda then commended the HSAs in the country for the sacrificial service they are rendering to the nation.

She has since thanked the network company (Airtel) for the promotion which was worth K5 million.

FAM appoints Marian Flames Coach to replace Meke Mwase

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has appointed Marian Mario Marinica as Flames coach, replacing Meck Mwase, who has been relieved of his duties.

The decision was made during Fam’s Executive Committee meeting held in Mangochi on Saturday.

Marinica will sign a new contract as Flames’ coach and has been given freedom to choose his backroom staff.

Benjamin Kumwenda has been appointed new Technical Director.

Marinică was born 13 December 1964 and is originally from Romanian .He holds the UEFA Pro Licence, the highest football coaching qualification. He has coached at Romanian clubs Rapid București, Gloria Buzău, Sportul Studenţesc, Argeş Piteşti, Rocar București, and Cimentul Fieni. He has also coached at Kerala Blasters in India, Azam F.C. in Tanzania, Black Leopards in South Africa, Zakho FC in Iraq, and Kaposvári Rákóczi FC in Hungary. In England, he has worked at Crystal Palace FC and Arsenal FC’s Academies as well as Leyton Orient FC’s School of Excellence. His playing career included spells at Rocar București, Dinamo București and Steaua București.

Marian was the head coach when Malawi participated at the African Cup on Nations where they ended up in the last 16.

Football fans have reacted to the changes , with many believing FAM has made a wrong decision to let Mwase go, but that he hcoukd have been kept in the coaching panel for him to gain experience from the expatriate.

Prophet Bushiri gets award for Humanitarian Works

Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of Jesus Nation – Enlightened Christian Gathering has been honoured with an award for his humanitarian works

The National Product Magazine has awarded Bushiri for his contribution to humanitarian works in Malawi at a ceremony that took place at Amyrillis Hotel in Blantyre on Saturday.The event was graced by the principal secretary in the Ministey of Trade and Industry Francis Zhuwawo.


In his acceptance message, Bushiri said he was greatly motivated by the award as it is his first recogniton and award in the country.

“I have done so much humanitarian works in Malawi since 2015. I have received several awards for the work I do in Malawi from different countries apart from Malawi. This is first time I am getting an award from Malawi. Its quite humbling to me and also many other Malawians who care to share. The award given to me is a message that Malawians have started recognising and appreciating each other,” he said.

During the event, several other companies in the manufacturing sector were also awarded for their contribution to Malawi’s economic growth.

Bushiri has been at the forefront of humanitarian works over the years. He has recently donated to disaster victims in Lower shire and has also introduced a bursary to pay School fees for the needy

New Fuel Prices announced by MERA

Malawi Regulatory Authority (MERA) has announced the adjustment of prices of Petrol, Diesel and Paraffin effective 10th April 2022.

Announcing this in Mangochi, MERA Chief Executive Officer, Henry Kachaje, said the Petrol price has been adjusted from K1,150.00 to K 1,380.00 representing 20%, Diesel from K1,120.00 to K 1,470.00 representing 31.25% and Paraffin from K833.20 to K 956.00 representing 14.7%.

Kachaje said following high fuel prices on the international market and consequently increased landing costs of the products, has necessitated the MERA Board to adjust the maximum pump prices.

The CEO disclosed that the cost of importing petroleum products had increased significantly. However, the board in consultation with the Ministry of Finance resolved to reduce some levies to minimise the resultant pump prices.

Road accident claims two in Kasungu

A rider and a pillion passenger have died in Kasungu after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a motor vehicle along Kasungu Crescent Road in the district. 

According to Kasungu Spokesperson Joseph Kachikho, the deceased have been identified as Maxwel Changatuwa 39, from Bowa Village, Traditional Authority Kaomba and Levinson Banda 24 from Kwambuzi Village, Traditional Authority Chilowamatambe in Kasungu District.

He said the accident occurred on April 8, 2022 around 05:00 hours.

“The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number BS 8219 Toyota Hilux double cabin driven by John Allubi from the direction of Kasungu Inn heading towards Kasungu town and a motorcycle registration number KU 8026 SanLG ridden by Changatuwa, now deceased carrying a pillion passenger which was going towards the opposite direction,” Kachikho said.

He added that upon arriving at Kasungu Police Station, Allubi failed to control his vehicle due to speeding and swerved to the off lane where it collided with the said motorcycle.

“Following the impact, Changatuwa and his pillion passenger, Banda sustained multiple fractures and died at Kasungu District Hospital whilst receiving treatment,” Kachikho added.

Meanwhile, Police in the district are advising road users to adhere to all road traffic rules and regulations to avoid further accidents.
