Police Arrest 269 For Defying Covid-19 Rules And Regulations

About 269 individuals have been arrested for defying Covid-19 Rules and Regulations, Police says.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera told 247 Malawi that the 269 were arrested on Tuesday across the country.

According to Kadadzera most of the people arrested faced the courts in the afternoon hours and have been found guilty and sentenced accordingly.

He further warned that Police will continue enforcing “operation Vala Mask” exercise to ensure that Malawians are adhering to COVID-19 Rules and Regulations.

Khungekile Matiya Not Seeking Re-election As NAM President

Netball Association of Malawi(NAM) president Khungekile Madise Matiya says she will not contest in the forthcoming elections slated to take place on August 7 in Salima.

Matiya said this in a statement released on Tuesday evening.

In the statement Matiya says she wishes best of luck to all those vying for various positions in the elections.

Reads the statement in part,
“I am writing to you in relation to (NAM)Executive Committee elections.
Before the postponement of the elections in May 2021,I had expressed interest
to contest for the Presidency ,and indeed I was nominated for the same.”

Mariya , not seeking re-election

“However, I have reconsidered my position and have decided not to contest in
the upcoming elections scheduled for 7 August 2021.”

Matiya who also served as General Secretary for Netball Africa and Southern Region Netball League (SRNL), says she will be available to assist the new executive committee in the transition.

Matiya, was nominated for the post of president alongside NAM’s former treasurer Abigail Shariff and former Malawi Queens captain Emmie Waya-Chongwe.

Kell Kay Teams Up With Saint For New Song ‘Basi’

Singer-songwriter Kell Kay has released a new collaboration with fellow Afro-pop musician Saint.

The song, titled ‘Basi,’ was premiered on a popular Monday night radio show ‘Made On Monday’ on MBC Radio 2 FM.

‘Basi’ talks about a man who is so in love with a woman and is telling her that he has no intention of leaving her to find another woman because he is satisfied with her.

The song has been produced by Patrick Manyozo populary known as Tricky Beats in music circles.

Kell Kay and Saint made headlines recently, following their scintillating performances at the Mikozi Studio courtesy of Premier Bet.

Ironically, the two hit-makers rose to fame in 2014 with their hit singles entitled ‘Ndilole Ndipite’ and ‘One Last Kiss’ , which had the same concept.

ACB postpones Mutharika Questioning

The Anti Corruption Bureau has postponed the interview it was due to conduct with former President Peter Mutharika over the alleged abuse of the President’s Taxpayer Identification Number. A statement signed by Egritta Ndala, Public Relations Officer for ACB says the interview which was due to commence on Tuesday 20th July has been shifted to 27th July

The Anti Corruption Bureau announced a week ago that it will interview former President Peter Mutharika as part of the ongoing probe into the alleged abuse of his Taxpayer Identification Number during his time as president. It is alleged that between 2018 and 2019, the former president’s access number was used to import 1.2 million bags of cement worth K5.1 billion duty-free.

Meanwhile , they were strong rumours that some DPP cadets were planning to flock to Mutharika’s Page House in Mangochi in what they were saying would be to protect the former leader from any possible arrest. Many analysists laughed at the idea as ACB had already reiterated that the questioning of Mutharika was to be done virtually due to Covid measures.

Malawi Defender Kieran Ngwenya signs new Aberdeen Deal

Scottish side Aberdeen FC has confirmed it has secured the long-term future of highly rated Malawian defender, Kieran Ngwenya, in a deal that will see him remain at Pittodrie until 2024.

The 18-year-old from Edinburgh made his Aberdeen debut in a league win over Ross County in December 2020 and has since made one more appearance for the first team.In March 2021, Ngwenya moved on loan to Cove Rangers in Scottish League One, making seven appearances before the left-back made his international debut for Malawi in a friendly against Tanzania in June 2021
