Kawale Police engage local sex workers

Kawale Police Station yesterday engaged commercial sex workers from various bottle stores within Kawale township in Lilongwe with the aim of building partnerships.

Through the office of community policing the aim of the meeting was building partnerships and enhancing security in their communities.

During their meeting, Sub Inspector Grace Vindevu shared security tips with sex workers and told them to take good care of their lives as they do business.

Representing the group, one of the sex workers expressed gratitude for the gesture.

She also took the meeting as an opportunity to share some of the problems they encounter when serving their customers.

The sex workers’ representative cited harsh treatment from some customers and failure of others to pay them after offering services, which she described as setbacks to their business.

Mzimba Solola MP donates K1 Million to District Party Committee:

Malawi Congress Party Member of Parliament for Mzimba Solola, Jacob Hara has donated cash amounting to K1 Million to Rumphi district committee of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) as one way of strengthening the party structure at the grassroot.

Presenting the donation on-behalf of Honorable Jacob Hara on Wednesday, March 16,2022 at a function that took place at Rumphi Boma, Deputy Organizing Secretary for the party, Aram Beza said Hara as a bonafide member of the party thought it wise to assist the district to constitute its area committees in all the four constituencies in order to have strong party structures down from the grassroots, which is the backbone of party and any well established political organization.

“Hon. Jacob Hara sent me on his behalf to present this cash to you as one way of appreciating the party work you are doing, but also to make sure you constitute the areas in all the constituencies so that the party is too strong here.”

“Hara is not from this region, he is from the North South, and all of you know this, but for him to consider extending his arm in donation to our region and Rumphi district in particular with such amount of money is not something to be taken for granted, not many can do this.” Said Beza while earning applause from district and constituency officials who came to witness the presentation of the donation.

During his speech, Beza took an advantage to thank the Chairman for the North North region, Kezzie Msukwa for tirelessly making sure that there is progress in the running of affairs for the party.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the district, the district chairman for Rumphi in the Malawi Congress Party, Ken Mzembe thanked Hon. Jacob Hara for the gesture, saying if many of the party senior officials can emulate what Hara has done, the party could not be struggling in its activities at the grassroots.

But in a separate interview with this reporter after receiving the donation, Mzembe had this to say “To us and especially me as district chairman, we are very thankful to be given K1 million from Hon. Jacob Hara, and the whole of my committee thanks a lot to Hon. Hara for the donation.

” The donation bill help us in so many activities especially in arranging area committees in all four constituencies. We will make sure the donation serves the intended purpose, and we appeal to other party officials who have capacity to humbly emulate the gesture by Hon. Hara regardless of the region they are coming from, if we are to strengthen our party further at all levels.”

Jacob Hara has set a record for being the first MP for Mzimba Solola to serve for more than one term, and was recently drafted into President Chakwera’ cabinet as Minister of Transport and Public Works few months ago.

Veteran journalist Beatrice Kampango no more

Just a day after a tragic death of journalist Gift Matola Chimulu, death has been announced of another journalist Beatrice Kampango who was working as station manager for the Catholic Church-owned Radio Alinafe in Lilongwe.

She died while receiving treatment at Daeyang Luke Hospital in Lilongwe on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

Kampango joined Radio Alinafe as a volunteer when it was just beginning in 2002.

She was later employed as a full-time presenter and producer, as well as music and production manager . She rose to the position of station manager in 2021.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa-Misa Malawi Chapter has since described the late Kampango as a hard working journalist who used her skills and experience to promote and develop up-and-coming journalists.

Meanwhile, Memorial Mass for the late Kampango will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Maula Cathedral in Lilongwe.

Thereafter the body will be taken to Kampango’s home village, Kasalika, in Thyolo, for burial on Friday, March 18, 2022.

“Re-open PTC, Kandodo and Metro superstores’ Says Prophet Zebron

The renowned man of God Prophet Frank Zebron of God’s Will Church of All Nations has warned Malawi government against poor economic development plans, saying closing of some business entities in the country is one of the sign that things are not moving forward to eradicate poverty which is rampant amongst Malawians.

Zebron said this on Wednesday afternoon at his church Headquarters in Mchengautuwa in Mzuzu city.

He said, government should revamp some dying business entities such as People’s Trading Center, Kandodo, and Metro Superstores respectively as one way of improving the country’s economy as well as providing the  employment opportunity to  Malawians.

Zebron, said, Malawi needs to create conducive environment for business people by supporting them through equal opportunities without looking their political affiliations.

“Remember, Mega stores were employing hundreds of  people, and cheap commodities were sold there. Closing them has brought several challenges to the Citizens such as loss of jobs and others” He explained.

The Prophet lamented that Malawi is a small country but it is yet  failing to fulfill its development agenda in time due to corruption.

Zebron added that, Corruption is rampat in several senior governing bodies of the country.

” We are still on regressing chapter due to heavy corruption, and Jelousy happening in several working places and senior offices that run the general welfare of the citizens. No wonder, those getting rich are getting richer and those who are poor continue getting poorer than before. We need to humble ourselves before God and have loving Heart amongest us’ He worried.

Malawi applauded for showing commitment to graduate from Least Developed countries

State President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday had an audience with Acting High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked developing countries and Small Island developing States Her Excellency Ms Heidi Schroderus – Fox.

The meeting took place in New York United States of America ahead of the Fifth UN Least Developed Countries (LDC) conference.

In her remarks Fox said she is impressed with the commitment that Malawi’s leadership has displayed during the negotiations of the new programme of action.

She said the implementation of action will bring true change to people’s lives and livelihoods in the Least Developed Countries.

She added that a country that shows willingness to graduate from being ranked as least developed will do so with the assistance of the new programme of action.

“Every country wants to move forward and this is what we are fighting for and as leaders we are working to bring all different partners to the table, to implement the new program of action that includes private sector all international financial organisations developing partners and all UN funds programmes agencies as well as women and youths,” she said.

The President will later hold a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the UN building headquarters.
