Chapatali encouraged the students who received exercise books and other school materials to work hard with education saying it is where their bright future belongs.

” To you students, work hard with school for you to be come reliable citizens of this country. School is very important if the one is to live independent life. Please work hard. To parents, I can say, let us encourage our children to go to school. Do not give them household chores the time they are supposed to be at school,” said Chapatali.

He thanked those well-wishers who donated clothes and other items to the organization so as to be given to the orphans and the elderly.
” We are very thankful to all of you who donated clothes that you do not use so as to be given to those who do not even have. We could not do this without you and may the God bless you,” he said.

Chapatali stressed that Hope for Humanity being a youth organization that has just started, they meet a lot of challenges that restrict them to grow such sa lack of financial support, office space and other office materials. He however, urged the government and other well-wishers to come out and support them so as they reach out many with the donations.

” As an organization which is small,we meet a lot of challenges. We have dreams to reach out many who are in need of our help but we fail because we lack financial support. We argue the government and other well-wishers to come out and support us with donations. Sometimes you may have clothes that you do not wear, please bring them to Hope for Humanity. Think of Hope for Humanity, think for village and poor people,” he stressed.

Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has told one of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Presidential aspirants Kondwani Nankhumwa to stop using pictures of his brother late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika when designing his campaign posters.

This follows a recent poster which Nankhumwa posted in one of his social media platforms, showing a picture of late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika.

In a statement, Mutharika says, as President of DPP and a relative to late Bingu wa Mutharika who is the founder of the party, he is distressed by the exploitation of their departed relative, however, asking Nankhumwa to withdraw the poster and never post another.

” As President of DPP and head of Mutharika amily, I am distressed by this exploitation of our departed relative. I am therefore, the individual concerned to withdraw this poster and to never post another one.

On behalf of my family, I am asking this individual to respect Bingu’s Soul and let him Rest in Peace,” reads the statement in part.

Currently, there is tension in DPP as the party’s top leaders are scrambling for presidential position to lead the party in the next Malawi’s Presidential elections.

Pastoral secretary for Catholic Diocese of Karonga, Father Joseph Sikwese, has asked parents to plant in their children a spirit of being prayerful saying the children have a role to play in spreading the gospel.

Sikwese made the remarks during epiphany Sunday celebration at St Mary’s parish which saw children taking some leading roles during mass.

In his remarks, he described parents as first teachers to children, hence the request.
“Despite children attending Sunday schools, parents are first teachers so they need to grow in their children the spirit of praying, when they pray in their families, children will learn to pray and fear God,” he said.

Sikwese further said children in the church have a role to play in spreading the gospel.
“In the church, children are the future church thus they have a role to play in spreading the gospel for they are witnesses of Christ,” he said.

On his part, Diocesan Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) director, Matthews Simwela, said the day is of great significance as it helps in instilling in children to love prayer.
“This day is important as it has the purpose to instill in the children the spirit to love prayer, and sharing with others the little resources that they have,” he said.

The Catholic Church celebrates epiphany Sunday once every year, this year’s epiphany Sunday was under the theme you will be my witness up to the ends of the world.

Member of Parliament for Ntcheu North, Lymon Bema Ziphondo has urged people in his constituency to begin the new year by giving blood in order to help build blood stocks ahead of a potential challenging rainy season.

Ziphondo made the call during the week at Lizulu Trading Center where Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS), Balaka Satellite Depot conducted a blood donation clinic.

He said, “There are a lot of people in different hospitals who are in urgent need of blood and it is my plea to the people in my constituency and beyond to take time to give this precious gift.”

Ziphondo further urged people especially the youth to add donating blood on their new year’s resolution list.

“As we are starting the new year 2022, we should make blood donation a habit and if we do so we will end up having enough blood stocks in our hospitals throughout the year,” said Ziphondo.

In his remarks MBTS’ Assistant Public Relations Officer for Balaka McLloyd Kudzingo urged leaders in different communities to emulate Ziphondo’s example by taking a leading role in encouraging people to donate blood.

“We are currently facing a severe blood shortage and as you might be aware that donation numbers are usually lower this time of the year, It is our plea as MBTS that everyone should take part in making sure that blood is available in our hospitals by either donating blood or take part in encouraging others to donate,” he said.

MBTS which is the only body mandated to process blood in the country is still failing to meet the blood demand as it only manages to collect 70% of the required units.
