Chakwera thanks team behind election campaign

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera on Monday took time to thank some of the active players in the run up to his presidential bid . The president invited the delegates to state house in Lilongwe where he thanked them for their hardwork in leading the campaign that saw MCP return to power as part of the Tonse Alliance.

Chakwera acknowleged that the battle to dislodge Mutharika and DPP was not easy and that alot of Malawians made great sacrifices to make sure that real change comes. Among one of the delegates at the function was MCP director of Strategy Dr Ken Zikhale Ngoma who also received an acolade from the President for executing a strategy that dismantled the grip of DPP

Speaking to 247 Malawi News , Dr Zikhale Ng’oma said he was grateful that the president has taken time despite his busy schedule to acknowledge members of the party that played a crucial role is making sure that Mutharika reign comes to an end.

Zikhale , who rates as one of Malawi’s top political strategist is on record as masterminding strategies that saw previous Presidents Bingu wa Mutharika and Bakili Muluzi get in power. Previously Zikhale has made it known that whoever he backs wins the presidency , and President Chakwera win is a testament to his claims.

President Chakwera is geared to fulfil his promises in what has become to be known as Tonse Philosophy which aims to built Malawi that is beneficial for all and not just the few. He has spoken against corruption and nepotism and is pushing for respect of the rule of law

World Bank donates 18 vehicles to Ministry of Gender

The World Bank has donated 18 vehicles valued at over K900 million for the implementation of a project on Investing in Early Years for Growth and Productivity by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare.

Speaking when she received the donation on Tuesday in Lilongwe, Minister responsible Patricia Kaliati lauded the World Bank for the initiative. She added the project is consistent with government efforts towards investing in human capital for enhanced national progress.

World Bank representative Francisco Obreque has since reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment in ensuring that the project delivers on its goals.

The five year pilot project seeks to improve coverage and utilisation of early childhood development services with focus on nutrition, stimulation and early learning from conception to 59 months. The Ministry of Gender is implementing the project in Likoma, Rumphi, Mchinji, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Machinga, Neno, Chikwawa, Zomba, Mwanza, Dowa, Thyolo and Chiradzulu districts.

Temwa outshines Tabitha as Wuhan defeat Jiangsu Suning

Temwa Chawinga helped Wuhan maintain their 100 percent record after defeating sister Tabitha Chawinga’s Jiangsu Suning 3-0 in a Chinese Women’s Super League encounter on Saturday.

Temwa and Tabitha were set up against each other for the first time after both competitively turned out together for Malawian club DD Sunshine, then to Swedish side Kvarnsveden and the national team.

They went head to head on the back of their impressive start to the season, having scored two goals each to inspire their respective teams to back-to-back victories in two matches so far.

Besides the grudge contest between the sisters, Wuhan aimed to avenge their home and away defeats at the hands of Jiangsu last season, with both matches ending 1-0 in favour of the champions.

Wuhan made the brightest start in the match as they gained an early lead when Liu Shanshan beat goalkeeper Peng Shimeng with her superb strike from a free kick in the 10th minute.

Wuhan doubled the lead when goalkeeper Shimeng denied Liu Shanshan’s attempt off Han Peng’s corner but Wang Shanshan was in the right position to fire home the rebound in the 26th minute. 

After the break, Wuhan continued from where they left off and were rewarded with the third in the 53rd minute when Shimeng saved Liu Shanshan’s effort for Wang Shanshan to tap in the winner.

Temwa was in action from the start to finish as Wuhan claimed their third win in a row, while sister Tabitha could not rescue holders Jiangsu from their first defeat of the season.  

The result means Wuhan are now second on the log with nine points from three matches, while Jiangsu are fourth with six points.

Wuhan will aim to consolidate on their winning run against Beijing Phoenix in their next encounter, while Jiangsu will eye a return to winning ways against Zhejiang on Wednesday.

Che Mandota promises fireworks in new episodes

A Lilongwe based up-and-coming comedian, Che Mandota says he is geared to release his latest comedy episodes aimed at informing, educating and entertaining people in the country.

In an interview with , Che Mandota whose real name is Jamil Sharif Chikakuda said he is currently shooting comedy video clips which will be premiered on various media channels after release.

“I am currently shooting new comedy video clips and I will be releasing the video clips every Wednesday which will be premiered on different media outlets including; Facebook, Youtube and Luntha Television,” Che Mandota said.

He added that, he will be hosting live performances for the new episode of his comedies once COVID-19 pandemic is over.
“Once the COVID-19 pandemic is over, I will be organizing live shows and other entertainment events for my comedies as one way of keeping Malawians entertained and also keeping the country’s comedy industry active,” he said.

Che Mandota

With inspiration from his brother, Hussein Chikakuda and John Nyanga who was known as Izeki in a comedy duo dubbed Izeki ndi Jakobo, Che Mandota ventured into comedy industry in 2005 with stage performances while at primary school.

The comedian said since joining the comedy industry, comedy performances have been part of his life until when he started shooting comedy video clips while at the college in Kampala, Uganda where he is studying medicine.

“Since I joined the comedy industry, comedy performances have been part of my life whereby I found myself bringing serious comedy topics and suggestions that would make people laugh and enjoy.

“After having a lot of serious comedy concepts, I thought it wise to start producing comedy video clips in form of episodes and I embarked on this project when I was at the college in Uganda,” he explained.

He said currently, he is eyeing to do collaborations with international comedians such as, Teacher Mpamire and Kansiime from Uganda as well as Mr. Macaroni from Nigeria.

In a separate interview, one of the country’s comedy legends, Eric Mabedi who is known as Jakobo in a comedy duo, Izeki ndi Jakobo commended the youth like Che Mandota for their enthusiasm in comedy production saying that there is need for new breed of comedians in the country.

“As longtime comedians, we are happy to see many youth in the country developing interest in comedy production and this is welcome gesture as a lot of comedy legends are getting old hence there is need of new breed of comedians,” Mabedi said.

However, he advised the up-and-coming comedians in the country to be more creative in order for them to be recognised on both local and international comedy scene.

Good gesture from MCP Diaspora RSA as they donate items to Stranded Malawians

As the ongoing Covid19 lockdown restrictions continues to affect Malawians in various ways ,the Malawi Congress Party South Africa Wing on Saturday afternoon took steps to help.  A donation of various assorted items was made to some Malawians who have found themselves out of jobs and stuck in a foreign country .

According to one of the officials of the Wing Mphatso Banda, representatives of the Wing paid a visit to fellow Malawians who have been stranded in Johannesburg for weeks awaiting clearance to return to Malawi. The group decided to take such a step as they didn’t just want to sit down and wait for the government “The situation is not good, a lot of Malawians stranded here and in desperate need for help. We know the Malawi government is working on trying to find ways to address this, however while waiting for that, we thought we should help with any little that we can”

MCP Diaspora Wing RSA donating items to stranded Malawians

It is believed more that 100,000 Malawians live in South Africa. Over the past month, Malawi has been receiving returnees from South Africa in large numbers. South Africa remains the country hardest hit with Covid19 pandemic.  Over 603 thousand cases have been registered with more than 13000 people confirmed dead

Malawi Deputy High Commissioner to South Africa  Gloria Bamusi earlier assured all Malawians that government will do its best to help  and that any Malawians who have any problems should try to  contact the embassy. MCP Diaspora RSA is part of the MCP Diaspora network (MCPDN)  which is an umbrella group of all the party’s diaspora group.  Mphatso Banda  also urged any Malawians in South who need quick help  to contact the group so that they can help to link them to relevant authorities.

The items that includes toiletries were bought by contributions from members of the Wing. Through the collaboration with Malawi High Commission in RSA and various stakeholders in the diaspora, buses are taking some of the people back to Malawi . MCP Diaspora encourages any other well wishers to donate items to the group which will be distributed to those in need
