Bullets to face Silver in FCB’s 30th anniversary match

FCB Nyasa Bullets will take on TNM Super League champions Silver Strikers at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on June 29, as part of First Capital Bank (FCB)’s 30th anniversary celebrations.

In an interview with journalists on Wednesday,FCB head of marketing and communications Twikale Chirwa,expressed optimism that the match will to be a thrilling encounter. 


Chirwa highlighted the competitiveness and excitement that Silver Strikers will bring to the game.

He said in the lead-up to the match, FCB has planned various promotions, including limited-edition jersey replicas for 100 lucky winners.

Chirwa indicated that the proceeds from the match will support youth football development through donations to the Luwinga Inclusive Football Academy in Mzuzu.

“FCB also sponsors the Under-20 youth football national league and aims to use this match as a platform to promote youth football,” he said.

On his part,Bullets acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Albert Chigoga expressed excitement about being part of the bank’s anniversary celebrations, which began with a 13-kilometer fun walk in Blantyre last weekend.

Silver Strikers midfielder Chinsinsi Maonga has been voted as the team’s player of the month beating two other contenders.

Maonga has beaten Featus Duwe and Maxwell Paipi and has received a K500,000 shopping voucher from C.P Investments and a Gas stove, 6 KG Cylinder, Gas, LPG pipe and a regulator from Bluewaves Energies Ltd.


The player made headlines when he scored a beautiful late equaliser against Mighty Wanderers in a TNM Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium on 25 May,2025.

He also scored in another league game against Songwe United and in an Airtel top 8 match against Moyale Barraks.

SKC Foundation aids Ntcheu Hospital with K16 million medical supplies

The Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) Foundation on Tuesday donated medical items worth K16.7 million to Ntcheu District Hospital on the first death anniversary of the fallen Vice President Saulos Chilima.

The donation included hospital beds, suction machines, and other medical equipment and were donated as part of the activities to honour Chilima, who died along with eight others in a plane crash at Nthungwa forest in Nkhata-Bay on 10 June 2024.

Chairperson of the Foundation, Mary Chilima, said the gesture was part of honouring her late husband, who believed in helping others.

“The SKC Foundation is aimed at perpetrating Chilima’s legacy, so this is part of continuing this. As we commemorate 365 days since his death, we thought of not only mourning him but donating to this hospital, which is close to where we buried him.”

“We have started with the health sector, but we will extend the gesture to other areas like education and mindset change and skills development especially for the youths,” said Chilima who was accompanied to the event by her first-born son Sean and a family member Anna Sasuze, an aunt to the late Chilima.

Chilima also indicated that the SKC Foundation raises funds for such charity activities through contributions from the general public.

In his remarks after receiving the donated items, Ntcheu District Council Director of Health and Social Services, Innocent Mhango, commended the Foundation for the items, which he said will be used in the high dependency units at the facility.

“We are grateful because this has come at the right time. As a council, we made a decision to open a high dependency unit, so these items will play a crucial role in this. As you know, Ntcheu Hospital is along the M1 road; therefore, we don’t just serve people from the district, we also handle a lot of accident-related cases before they are referred to Kamuzu Central Hospital,” he said.

Before the donation, the Chilima family attended a requiem mass in memory of the late Chilima and others at Nsipe Catholic Church.

Mzimba Central seat dispute heads to High Court for ruling

The High Court in Mzuzu is set to hear a dispute between Trade Minister Vitumbiko Mumba and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) over the Mzimba Central Constituency parliamentary seat.

The hearing, scheduled for June 13th, will determine whether the dispute should be resolved through the courts or outside of them.

Mumba, who is seeking the parliamentary seat, has been embroiled in a controversy within the party, with some members questioning his eligibility.

His lawyer, Khumbo Soko, is optimistic that the court will grant their wish and allow fresh primary elections to be held in the area.

“We are confident that the court will see the merit in our case and grant our application,” Soko said, adding that,”This will enable the party to hold fresh primary elections, which will be in the best interest of the party and its members.”

However, MCP lawyer Gift Dick Chimowa has expressed concerns that Mumba’s application is an abuse of the court process.

“We believe that the claimant has no good grounds to be seeking an injunction again,” Chimowa said, adding that,”We will submit to the court’s guidance on this matter, but we are confident that the court will see through the claimant’s intentions.”

The dispute began when Mumba asked the party to consider an out-of-court settlement, but the party later applied for a discharge order of the earlier injunction.

The court’s decision will have significant implications for the party and its members, and will determine the fate of Mumba’s parliamentary aspirations.

As the hearing approaches, both parties are gearing up to present their cases to the court.

The outcome of the hearing will be closely watched, and will provide clarity on the way forward for the MCP and its members.

The court’s ruling will be crucial in determining the future of the party in Mzimba Central Constituency, and will have far-reaching implications for the party’s internal dynamics.

With the hearing just around the corner, all eyes are on the court to see how it will rule on this matter.

Eastern Region police seek divine guidance for peaceful elections

As Malawi gears up for the September 16, 2025, general elections, the Eastern Region police have taken a significant step towards ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

Today, the police conducted prayers at the Zomba police college, seeking God’s guidance and peace throughout the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Francis Chisoti, responsible for the Eastern Region, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and professionalism during this critical period. “It’s our wish for the region and the country to remain violence-free,” DCP Chisoti said.



Reverend Canon Superintendent Samuel Mejar, an Anglican priest based at the police headquarters, led the prayers and emphasized the need for unity in achieving peaceful elections. “Unity is key to ensuring that our country remains peaceful, and we must strive to work together to achieve this goal,” Reverend Mejar said.

A Call for Professionalism

The prayer session, attended by selected officers from the region, aimed to remind police officers of their critical role in maintaining law and order during the elections. DCP Chisoti urged officers to remain professional and impartial, ensuring that the electoral process is free from violence and intimidation.

As the elections draw near, the police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible process.

The prayer session is a testament to the police’s commitment to upholding peace and stability in the region.
