By Burnett Munthali

People’s Party (PP) Chairperson for the Presidential Campaign, Chris Daza, has declared that former President Joyce Banda was divinely chosen to lead Malawi, arguing that her past leadership alone is enough to earn her the people’s trust in the upcoming elections.

Speaking at a political rally held at Kaviwale Ground in Mzuzu on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Daza told supporters that there is little need for an intensive campaign because Banda’s record in office speaks volumes.

PP Rally in Mzuzu

He emphasized that Banda is the only Malawian president who took decisive steps in the fight against corruption, claiming she was firm in closing doors to corrupt practices and shielding public resources from abuse.

Daza added that what Joyce Banda achieved during her tenure as president has not been matched by any other leader to date, and he believes the country can only witness such progress again if she is re-elected in the upcoming polls.

He called on Malawians to reflect on Banda’s accomplishments and to make a bold choice to restore integrity and development by voting her back into power.

Echoing Daza’s sentiments, People’s Party Campaign Director Clifa Kondowe told the gathering that Malawians had been misled into electing a leader they believed would bring real change—only to be disappointed.

Kondowe referred to the current leadership as a “scam” that has failed the country both economically and socially, citing worsening hardships under the present administration.

She expressed confidence that Malawians will correct that mistake on September 16 by electing Joyce Banda, whom she described as a genuine leader with a proven track record.

The rally in Mzuzu marked a significant moment in the People’s Party’s campaign trail, as party leaders intensify efforts to bring Joyce Banda back into national leadership.

A visit to Chibanzi Community Day Secondary School in the area of Senior Chief Msakambewa in Dowa North East Constituency, has revealed that many students have dropped out of school due to poor infrastructures at the school and lack of resources.

A student sitting for the Malawi School Certificate of Educations (MSCE) Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) 2025 revealed that the classrooms are in disrepair for years at nobody’s care despite teachers’ efforts of ensuring that teaching and learning is taking place efficiency and effectively.

He said science subjects are being taught by very hard working teachers without adequate teaching and learning materials speaking to itself that the school is not ready to teach science subjects and there’s no Library.

The Head teacher attributed the high drop rate of students at the school to community ridicule of the students attending classes at the school saying this is leading to low morale and it is not surprising to learn that Chibanzi CDSS has only 20 students sitting for the 2025 MSCE Examinations.

Pemphero Phiri (in red cap)…..let’s not support leaders who neglect community problems.

Speaking at the school’s prize giving ceremony as a guest of honor, , an aspiring Member of Parliament for Dowa North East constituency Pemphero Phiri, said he was deeply touched with the situation at the school promising to bring change once he is voted into office on the 16th September, 2025 elections.

Phiri was one of the frustrated candidate who participated in the MCP primaries for the area, wanted to stand independent but chiefs and the people of the area asked him to join the UTM and he will represent the people of the area as a UTM candidate.

He said it is sad that the whole Msakambewa has no modern secondary school vowing to construct one at Msakambewa trading centre and ensuring that all secondary schools in the area are equipped with modern facilities to make teaching and learning enjoyable.

“Voting for me is voting for change, there is need to elect a leader with new ideas and mindset change, voting for a candidate out of been given handouts, will not change this constituency, it will remain the same forever,” said Phiri.

He urged the registered voters in the area not to support leaders who neglect community problems only  the development of their pockets, saying this has led to most areas not only in Dowa North East but the district as a whole, declining as if there are no representatives in Parliament.

Phiri, then supported the school with free internet WI-FI so that teachers, students and the communities surrounding the school should not be left behind in modern internet technologies to Google learning information on internet.

Traditional leader urges MCP to prioritize Migowi–Nambazo Road during Phalombe Rally

Senior officials from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Sunday, June 29, 2025, held a political rally at Lihaka in Phalombe District, drawing attention from local leaders and community members.

During the rally, Group Village Headman Chiwalo made an impassioned appeal to the party’s leadership to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Migowi–Nambazo road, which he said is negatively affecting development in the area.

He emphasized that the poor state of the road has become a major setback to socioeconomic growth in the region, making it difficult for people to access essential services and carry out business activities.

The event was graced by several high-ranking MCP officials, including National Executive Committee member Babu Khamisa and Phalombe District Chairperson Justin Namadwala, among other party leaders.

The presence of these officials reflected the MCP’s continued engagement with rural communities as it listens to the developmental concerns of local citizens.

According to Group Village Headman Chiwalo, the Migowi–Nambazo road is a crucial route for the people of Phalombe, as it connects them to Lake Chilwa and several rural health centers such as Nambazo, Nambera, and Mtemanyama.

He stressed that due to the road’s dilapidated condition, access to these facilities has become increasingly difficult, especially for patients, traders, and farmers.

The road is also essential for economic activities in the area, particularly for transporting goods and accessing markets, but its current state has created logistical challenges for the communities.

As Malawi prepares for future political campaigns and elections, local leaders like Chiwalo are urging the ruling party to back its promises with tangible infrastructure development.

The appeal from Phalombe serves as a reminder of the urgent need to invest in rural road networks that are fundamental to improving the livelihoods of citizens and driving regional development.
