Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youthful shadow Member of Parliament for Kasungu Central Constituency, Chikondi Kampachike Chisale, has pledged to continue the development projects he has been implementing in the area after being voted into Parliament in the September 16 polls.

Chisale disclosed that he will continue serving the people through the pipe water project, which he has been working on for the past ten years.

He also mentioned that he will maintain the health mobile clinic and put emphasis on the education sector.

Chisale – I will maintain health mobile clinic

The Kasungu Central Constituency’s MCP shadow MP further emphasized that he will continue providing food to the elderly during times of hunger.

He said, “I will keep engaging with local leaders and the Village Development Committee (VDC) to understand their key priority areas that require my focus.”

“Obviously, regarding road network infrastructure, we will also continue supporting entrepreneurship and farming, as these drive our economy. These are some of the things we will keep doing,” Chisale added.

Chisale also lamented that he will not rely solely on the 10% Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to support poor students with bursaries, stating that the CDF alone cannot go far and that leaders need to be resourceful.

He stated that as a leader, it is important to engage stakeholders, develop partnerships, and explore various resource pools that can be channeled towards education.

In his remarks, one of the constituents, Barry Phiri, said Chisale has been very supportive of both the youth and the elderly over the past ten years, and he believes Chisale will be a good parliamentarian for the constituency.

Chisale defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ken Kandodo, in party primaries by 986 votes to 144.

Malawi will hold general elections on the 16th of next month, where people are expected to vote for Councillors, Members of Parliament, and the President.

Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu Party president who is also the state vice-president Michael Usi says the government fails to address national challenges because some government officials do not  follow presidential directives.

Speaking at a mega political rally he held on Manday at Nyambadwe Primary School Ground in Blantyre, Usi said  despite the president issuing instructions, many government officials ignore them without any consequences for those responsible.

“When the President gives directives, not all of them are carried out.People sit down to discuss the directives, and some even disregard them completely yet they go unpunished. That is the problem,” said Usi.

On his political ambitions, Usi confirmed that he will contest in the forthcoming presidential elections but emphasised that his priority is the welfare of Malawians, not personal political gain.

“I am contesting, but I am looking at the bigger picture. It should not be about  Usi, it should be about the people. I can forgo the presidency for the sake of Malawians. Malawians come first, myself and others second,” he said.

The Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu leader outlined conditions he believes are critical for the country’s progress, including ending nepotism, rooting out corruption, promoting genuine development, and ensuring that professional expertise  not political influence drives government operations.

“Political parties and their gurus should not interfere with government business.Let professionals do what they know best because they went to school for that,” he said l.

While hinting at possible discussions with other political leaders on a potential alliance, Usi declined to reveal the names of the parties or individuals involved.

“I am talking to everybody, but I won’t disclose which party for now. I am not seeking to ride on anyone’s back because I have what it takes to be president. I fear nobody when it comes to contesting, but I respect them all,” he said.

The VP reiterated his belief that leadership is ultimately determined by God and expressed confidence in his ability to lead the nation.

In February 2019, former vice-president Saulos Chilima picked Usi as his running mate in the nullified 2019 presidential election under United Transformation Movement (UTM ) party ticket.

He pulled out of the UTM presidential race in  November,2024 while serving as president, having replaced Chilima who died in a plane crash in June the same year.

On April 27 this year,Usi launched Odya Zake Alibe Mlandu as a political party in the capital Lilongwewith pomp.

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has urged voters in Chitipa District to cast their votes for him and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to ensure that development continues both in Chitipa and across Malawi.

Speaking at Chitipa Boma during a whistle-stop tour ahead of the September 16 General Election, President Chakwera reflected on the challenges faced during his first term, noting that despite numerous natural disasters, the government remained committed to national development.

He emphasized that his administration has implemented many developmental projects throughout the country, utilizing modern technology to build lasting infrastructure.

MRA empowers Southern Region journalists with digital tax knowledge

Blantyre was the hub of a major capacity-building drive this week as the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) conducted an intensive training workshop for journalists from the Southern Region, focusing on its flagship digital service, Msonkho Online.

The platform, designed to allow taxpayers to file returns and make payments electronically, is at the heart of MRA’s modernization strategy.

Officials say it is aimed at reducing queues at tax offices, cutting processing times, and curbing errors that often arise with manual filing.

Speaking at the opening, MRA officials emphasized that empowering the media with in-depth knowledge about Msonkho Online will lead to clearer, fact-based reporting that demystifies tax processes for the public.

“The media is a bridge between us and the people. If they understand the system well, they can help spread accurate information and encourage voluntary compliance,” said one MRA spokesperson.

The training was supported by GIZ Malawi through its Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management (PFEM–Tikuze Malawi) project, which works to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public finance systems.

The partnership, according to MRA, reflects a shared vision of building a culture of tax compliance as a foundation for national development.

Participants engaged in hands-on sessions, navigating the Msonkho Online interface, troubleshooting common challenges, and exploring ways to integrate tax-related content into news coverage.

The workshop also touched on broader topics such as the link between tax revenue and public service delivery, and the role of investigative journalism in safeguarding fiscal accountability.

Charismatic Redeemed Ministries International (CRMI) has urged people in the country to engage in consistent prayer sessions ahead of the September 16 general election.

The father and founder of CRMI, Archbishop Dr. Mark Kambalazaza, made these remarks on Monday in Blantyre when the church briefed journalists on its preparations for the church’s 25th anniversary celebration, slated for September 5 to7 at Kamuzu Stadium in the city.

“We are pleased to announce that our church has completed 25 years since its establishment in 2000. We hereby invite all media to come and celebrate with us,”

“at the same time, we urge all people to engage in consistent prayers as the country prepares to hold general elections in the same month. We need to seek God’s intervention for a God-fearing leadership selection through fair and credible polls.” he said.

Dr. Kambalazaza also shared a brief background of his first encounter with the living Jesus, from which the theme of the church is rooted. “CRMI’s vision is ‘Preaching the Living Jesus and the Holy Spirit in Readiness for Rapture.’

“This theme depicts my experience when I fell ill for 11 years, from 1980 to 1991, until the Lord Jesus intervened miraculously by bringing me back to life after I died. Hence, the celebration and the theme, as I had promised God to spread the Gospel around the world,” explained Dr. Kambalazaza.

He further stated that to express his heartfelt appreciation to those who have stood with him over the past 25 years, he will host the silver jubilee together with Bishop Ireen Kambalazaza (his wife) and will be joined by Apostle Dr. Madalitso Mbewe of Cavalry Family Church from Malawi, Apostle Stanys Moliki from South Africa, Bishop Elizabeth Vareen from the United States of America, and Apostle Frederick Shumba from Zimbabwe.

Today, CRMI has over 450 church centers, including many outstations in Malawi, with international branches in the Republic of South Africa, Ireland, Mozambique, and the United States of America.
