Chalo Mvula to feature on “God, Church and Politics Show” for in-depth dialogue on Malawi’s political landscape

By Burnett Munthali

Chalo Mvula, the Second Deputy Director of International Relations for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), is scheduled to appear on Pastor Chance Munthali’s “God, Church and Politics Show” later today.

The program, which has grown into a key platform for blending political analysis with spiritual reflection, has become popular among Malawians seeking to understand the intersection between governance and faith.

Pastor Chance Munthali has consistently used the show to invite political figures, religious leaders, and community influencers to discuss national issues in a conversational yet thought-provoking manner.

Chalo Mvula’s participation is expected to draw significant attention, particularly because of his role in the MCP’s international engagement and his reputation for frank, unapologetic commentary on national affairs.

The Malawi Congress Party, as the ruling party, has been at the center of the nation’s political debates, facing both praise for reforms and criticism for persistent economic and governance challenges.

Mvula’s presence on the show will therefore provide an opportunity for Malawians at home and abroad to hear firsthand the party’s perspectives on current events in the political arena.

The discussion is expected to cover a wide range of pressing issues, including the state of the economy, governance accountability, the role of the opposition, and the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.

Given the platform’s unique blend of politics and faith, Mvula may also be asked to reflect on the moral responsibilities of leaders and the role that spiritual guidance can play in shaping ethical political practice.

In recent months, Malawians have been increasingly vocal about their frustrations with unemployment, inflation, and corruption, making this conversation especially timely and relevant.

Mvula’s international role within the MCP suggests that he will also touch on Malawi’s position in the global community and the importance of maintaining strong diplomatic relationships in times of economic strain.

Listeners of the program are anticipating an open and honest discussion, with some already taking to social media to express eagerness for the insights that Mvula will bring to the conversation.

The collaboration between politics and the pulpit through this show has been described by many as an innovative way to foster civic engagement while keeping ethics and morality at the heart of national debate.

For Pastor Chance Munthali, the aim has always been to demonstrate that politics and faith are not mutually exclusive, but rather interconnected forces that must work together for the progress of society.

Chalo Mvula’s contribution is likely to reinforce this idea by offering political clarity while also addressing the values that underpin leadership in a democratic system.

This conversation may also serve as a reminder to political leaders that the public is paying close attention to not only policies but also the integrity of those in power.

As Malawi prepares for a new political season, platforms such as the “God, Church and Politics Show” play a vital role in shaping public discourse and encouraging accountability.

The participation of senior figures like Chalo Mvula demonstrates the seriousness with which politicians are beginning to engage with broader civic and ethical conversations.

In conclusion, Mvula’s appearance on the show is more than just another interview—it is a chance to merge political discourse with moral reflection, offering Malawians both clarity and challenge as they navigate their country’s future.

The dialogue will not only highlight the priorities of the ruling party but also provide a benchmark for what citizens expect from leaders in terms of responsibility, transparency, and faith-guided action.

Ultimately, this episode of “God, Church and Politics” will contribute to the ongoing national conversation about what kind of leadership Malawi truly needs in this defining moment of its history.

Former President of the Republic of Malawi who is also DPP leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has expressed his deep concern over the country going back to one-party state and dictatorship as observed with hackings, terrorizing innocent people and arresting people on free- speech.

Professor Mutharika has urged all Malawians that wants Malawi to go out of MCP dictatorship to go door -to –door mobilizing one another to vote for the DPP assuring them that he is ready to liberate the country in a quest to build a new Malawi.

He said vote is the only weapon to change the country, to bring in a government that has the welfare of people at heart and removing a bad government urging all to take the aged, those who are sick by giving them Panadol to vote for the DPP for the country to see the difference.

Speaking at Katoto ground in Mzuzu on Sunday when he launched the 2025 DPP manifesto and campaign, Professor Mutharika assured Malawians that on the 16th September, 2025 Malawi will be liberated and MCP vote rigging scheme will be impossible.

Professor Mutharika noted with a great concern that Malawi remain number 3 of the world’s poorest country and its people are living below poverty line that even their faces are reading that they are the sufferers and have no hope for a better tomorrow.

He said he will rebuild Malawi from the 17th September, 2025 saying he has set up an Economic Rescue Committee comprising of economists and business people to look at the country’s economy that his first program in government will be on the issues of forex and the debts which have chained the country from moving forward.

The DPP leader said the DPP manifesto is people centred development claiming that Singapore was the poorest country in 1964 and after investing heavily in education, the country is rich claiming that no country can develop without education.

He said this is why in the DPP manifesto, secondary school education will be free, saying the whole idea is to make as many learners attend secondary school education expressing hope that parents, guardians and learners themselves have welcomed the DPP manifesto.

‘” I want Malawi to grow, I will continue the DPP programs of building Community Technical Colleges on the basis that a country without technical people cannot grow,” said Mutharika.

He said he will continue with Malata-Cement program to make sure that sleeping in grass-roofed houses be a thing of yesterday informing the people that by the time he was ousted out of government, the program already constructed 15,000 houses.

The DPP mega rally in Mzuzu was also attended by its electoral alliance partners such as Enock Kamzingeni Chihana, Frank Tumpale Mwefumbo, Bishop Dr. David Mbewe, among other dignitaries.

Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, widely known as Mpulumutsi, held a massive campaign rally at Katoto Ground in Mzuzu on Sunday, drawing thousands of supporters from across the Northern Region.

Addressing the crowd, he reminded Malawians that it was under him and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) that the controversial quota system in university admissions was abolished, a move that promoted fairness and equal opportunity for all students.

Mutharika emphasized that while other political actors might attempt to claim credit, it was the DPP that successfully implemented this policy reform, demonstrating the party’s commitment to meritocracy.

During his speech, he promised the people of Mzuzu that, if elected, his administration would construct a modern sports stadium to provide world-class facilities for youth development and recreational activities.

The former president highlighted that although he is not a pastor, he has consistently honored his campaign promises, reinforcing his reputation as a leader of integrity and action.

Mutharika assured his audience that starting September 17, 2025, secondary and primary education in Malawi would be made free, signaling a major policy initiative aimed at increasing access to education and empowering the nation’s youth.

He further pledged to implement measures to attract foreign investment, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to the country’s financial challenges.

In a direct message to voters, Mutharika warned that accepting money or gifts from politicians should never compromise one’s vote, urging Malawians to vote based on policies and integrity rather than short-term incentives.

The DPP has historically positioned itself as a party committed to development, social justice, and economic empowerment. Founded in 2005 by Bingu wa Mutharika, the party has been credited with stabilizing the economy during its previous terms, rolling out infrastructure projects, and improving access to education and healthcare.

Professor Mutharika himself served as president from 2014 to 2020, during which his government established community colleges, upgraded roads, and introduced policies to empower young entrepreneurs, particularly in the Northern Region.

The rally also featured speeches from key party leaders, including Rt. Hon. Dr. Jane Ansah, Mutharika’s running mate, and Rt. Hon. Enock Chihana, President of AFORD and incoming Second Vice President of the Blue Alliance. They urged northern Malawians to unite behind Mutharika to restore the nation’s lost economic stability and ensure equitable development.

The event highlighted the Blue Alliance’s coalition of DPP, AFORD, LEF, and NDP, showcasing a strategic partnership aimed at consolidating support ahead of the September 2025 elections.

Supporters at Katoto Ground expressed optimism that the DPP-led Blue Alliance would reverse the economic decline experienced under the current MCP-led government, particularly regarding rising prices, limited employment opportunities, and infrastructural decay.

Concluding Analysis

Professor Mutharika’s mega rally in Mzuzu demonstrates his campaign’s dual focus on celebrating past achievements and presenting a clear vision for Malawi’s future.

By highlighting the abolition of the quota system, free education, infrastructure development, and investment-friendly policies, he reinforces his track record while appealing to voters’ desire for tangible change.

The rally also underscores the importance of principled voting and coalition-building, showing that leadership, integrity, and strategic alliances remain central to the Blue Alliance’s campaign strategy.

For Malawians in the Northern Region, the event provided both a reminder of past progress and hope for a government committed to inclusive development, economic recovery, and national unity.
