Sunganimoyo to appear on Mec ballot papers

Social commentator who graduated himself to represent Sese Ward as an independent councilor on the 16th September, 2025 elections Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo, has announced that his name has been approved by the Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec).

Sunganimoyo is a diehard member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), he was born MCP and his parents were all MCP beside the MCP firing him from the party because of his constructive advises to the MCP and President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to do better than before.

He has been maintaining his innocence that he remained a member of the MCP beside his removal but however, Sunganimoyo has been one of the targets by the MCP youth operatives threatening to take away his life from this earthly world.



The commentator nearly lost his life when he was found at the MCP Regional Office at Area 3 in Lilongwe at the invitation of Abida Mia and RichardChinwendo Banda being one of the MCP media team, he was kicked out from the meeting and told never and ever to attend or to be found any nearer to MCP meetings.

Sunganimoyo is on record having written so many letters to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera requesting to meet him in person, but his letters were being thrown into a dustbin and it is not surprising that he was labelled enemy number one by the MCP.

At first, his great ambition was to stand an independent presidential candidate but he listened to the Chewa chiefs who sat down with him that doing this will be dividing votes for President Chakwera to bounce back into government on the 16th September, 2025 elections.

He accepted this because the decision came from chiefs who are the custodian of the land and changed his decision to stand himself so low that he starts building up his political career by contesting as an Independent councilor for Sese Ward in Lilongwe.

Writing as a statement, Sunganimoyo has confirmed that his name has been officially approved by Mec to stand as an independent councilor for Sese Ward in Lilongwe and his name is appearing on Mec pdf document at page number 91.

“With the campaign that will commence on the 19th August, 2025 I request the support and considerations from all regardless of political party affiliations as I am striving to represent Sese Ward effectively,” reads Sunganimoyo’s writings in part.

He has assured the MCP that he has no grudge with anybody in the party and will campaign for President Chakwera to bounce back into government on the 16th September, 2025 elections and he is very optimistic that President Chakwera has no competitor and will win the elections.

Victor Musowa, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) parliamentary candidate for Mulanje Bale Constituency, has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), branding it a government of “anthu akuba” (thieves).

Addressing supporters recently, Musowa declared that Vice President Michael Usi’s own statements confirm the MCP’s corruption, asserting that Malawians now recognize the true source of the nation’s severe economic hardships .

Musowa emphasized that only the DPP possesses the solutions to Malawi’s crippling challenges, including skyrocketing commodity prices and chronic fuel shortages. “Chipani cha DPP chakonzeka kukupulumutsani ku njala ya dzaoneni yomwe yakula mdziko muno,” he stated, pledging his party’s readiness to rescue citizens from the growing hunger crisis. He further vowed to stabilize prices and ensure reliable fuel supplies: “Komanso kuonetsetsa kuti katundu sakukwera mtengo, kuthandiza kuti mafuta a galimoto asamasowe” .

Expressing gratitude that Malawians understand “choonadi chokhudza gwero la mavuto” (the truth about the source of problems), Musowa reiterated his confidence in a DPP comeback in the September 16 elections under Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s leadership. He attributed the current cost-of-living crisis directly to the MCP’s “poor leadership,” positioning the DPP as the sole party that “ndichokhacho chomwe chikudziwa mavuto ndi zosowa za anthu” (truly understands the problems and needs of the people) .

This aggressive campaigning occurs amidst controversy. Musowa faces sharp criticism for allegedly inciting violence against MCP supporters in Ndirande, Blantyre. Reports document him openly urging residents to “murder” MCP backers – rhetoric condemned as exacerbating Malawi’s volatile political climate, particularly after the recent murder of MCP Youth Director Mabvuto Chimwanza . While focusing his campaign on economic rescue and anti-corruption platforms, these inflammatory remarks cast a shadow over his promises of development for Mulanje Bale.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged Lilongwe residents to vote for him and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the upcoming elections to sustain national development. Chakwera spoke during a whistle-stop tour at Matapila Trading Centre on Monday.

The President highlighted his administration’s implementation of various development projects nationwide despite facing challenges like natural disasters. He emphasized the need for leadership prioritizing all citizens, irrespective of political, religious, or tribal affiliations.

“We have undertaken many development projects. We have constructed modern roads, hospitals, and police houses. This demonstrates our commitment to developing Malawi,” Chakwera stated.

Eisenhower Mkaka, the MCP aspiring Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Mpenu, expressed gratitude for the President’s visit to the constituency. Mkaka described Chakwera’s gesture as a profound sign of humility.

He further commended the government for driving development in the area, specifically citing the construction of a new health centre as a key improvement benefiting local communities. Mkaka’s remarks underscored local appreciation for the President’s engagement and ongoing infrastructure efforts.

Malawi Records Strong Pass Rates in 2025 National Examinations

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced the 2025 Primary School Leaving Certificate (PSLCE) and Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) results, declaring them free of leaks during a ceremony at the Bingu International Convention Centre. MANEB Board Chairperson Professor Samson Sajidu highlighted the seamless exam administration, supported by e-registration and e-payment systems . 



A total of 216,972 out of 247,958 PSLCE candidates passed, achieving an 87.50% pass rate, with male candidates outperforming females at 90.61% versus 84.56%. The JCE results saw 122,977 passes out of 158,451 candidates, marking a 77.61% pass rate—a 6.41% improvement from 2024. Notably, male candidates recorded an 81.98% pass rate compared to females’ 73.49% . 

Dr. Grace Milner, Director of Basic Education, revealed that 103,261 learners were selected for Form One, reflecting a 47.59% transition rate. Top-performing institutions included Ludzi Girls Secondary School (JCE) and Mkazomba Primary School (PSLCE) . MANEB dismissed social media rumors about premature result releases, directing the public to obtain official results through schools . The results underscore progress in Malawi’s education sector, attributed to enhanced teaching strategies and equitable resource distribution .

President Chakwera Pledges Continued Support for Women and Youth in Malawi

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reassured residents of Chigodi that his government remains dedicated to supporting women and youth across multiple sectors. Speaking at Chigodi Trading Centre in Lilongwe during a whistle-stop tour on Monday, Chakwera highlighted his administration’s focus on empowering these groups through agriculture, entrepreneurship, and mining initiatives. 

He stressed the need for inclusive projects that drive both individual and national growth. “Over the years, my government has encouraged women and youth to engage in irrigation farming to ensure consistent harvests,” Chakwera said. The President also pointed to mining as a key sector for economic participation, noting its potential to provide additional income. 



“We want more young people and women to achieve financial independence so Malawi can move forward,” he added. 

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Central Region Chairman Patrick Zebron Chilondola commended Chakwera’s leadership, stating that the country has seen transformative progress under his administration. The event underscored the government’s commitment to fostering opportunities for marginalized groups in Malawi’s development agenda.
