In a bold move to shake up Malawi’s political landscape, independent presidential candidate Adil James Chilungo has unveiled his 2025 manifesto, promising to restore dignity to the nation.

The manifesto, aptly titled “Operation Restore Dignity,” outlines a comprehensive plan to address the country’s pressing issues, from hunger and high-interest rates to inequality and poor governance.

Chilungo’s campaign is built on three core principles: truth, justice, and perfection.

Adil James Chilungo

He believes that by upholding these values, Malawi can achieve development and prosperity for all its citizens.

The manifesto outlines several key areas of intervention, including improved governance systems, human capital development, tourism, mining, agriculture, environment, and energy.

One of the standout features of Chilungo’s manifesto is his commitment to good governance. He promises to promote transparency and accountability in government, ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and effectively.

This includes strengthening institutions, promoting devolution of power, and enhancing public security.

Chilungo’s economic plan focuses on promoting small businesses, employment, and equitable distribution of income.

He proposes introducing non-interest banking and profit-sharing productive investments to stimulate economic growth and reduce poverty.

Additionally, he aims to modernize the agriculture sector through climate-smart practices and irrigation farming, ensuring food security and sustainable development.

The manifesto places a strong emphasis on human capital development, with initiatives aimed at empowering young people, women, and persons with physical disabilities.

Chilungo promises to improve education, healthcare, and housing, ensuring that all Malawians have access to quality services.

Chilungo’s plan for tourism involves promoting Malawi’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, creating jobs and generating revenue for the country. In the mining sector, he aims to ensure that the country’s mineral resources are exploited sustainably and transparently, benefiting all Malawians.

In agriculture, he promises to promote climate-smart practices, irrigation farming, and sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security and economic growth.

The manifesto also addresses energy and environmental issues, with a focus on promoting renewable energy sources and sustainable practices.

Chilungo aims to reduce Malawi’s reliance on fossil fuels and promote energy efficiency, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

According to his manifesto, the funds for these ambitious projects will come from a combination of sources, including government revenue, private sector investment, and international partnerships.

He also proposes implementing a robust financial management system to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.

Adil James Chilungo’s 2025 manifesto offers a fresh perspective on Malawi’s development trajectory.

With its focus on good governance, economic empowerment, human capital development, and sustainable practices, the manifesto provides a comprehensive roadmap for restoring dignity to Malawi.

As the country heads towards the 2025 elections, Chilungo’s message of hope and change is sure to resonate with many Malawians.

It is recommended that the government prioritize good governance and transparency in its operations.

Small businesses and entrepreneurship should be promoted through accessible financing options and business development services. Climate-smart agriculture and irrigation farming should be prioritized to ensure food security and sustainable development.

Human capital development should be a key focus area, with initiatives aimed at empowering young people, women, and persons with physical disabilities.

The country should also promote renewable energy sources and sustainable practices to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

By implementing these recommendations, Malawi can take significant strides towards restoring dignity to its citizens and achieving sustainable development.

Malawi records fourth consecutive drop in inflation, easing cost of living pressures

By Burnett Munthali

Malawi has recorded a further decline in its inflation rate for the fourth consecutive month, signaling gradual progress toward economic stability.

According to figures released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the country’s inflation rate dropped to 27.1 percent in June, down from 27.7 percent in May.

This steady decline offers a glimmer of hope for Malawians who have been grappling with a high cost of living for the past several months.

The recent drop in inflation is largely attributed to a reduction in food inflation, which fell from 32.7 percent in May to 31.6 percent in June.

Given that food makes up a substantial portion of household expenditure in Malawi, the easing of food prices is a welcome relief for many struggling families.

Analysts believe this trend may reflect improved agricultural output, better food distribution, or stabilization in supply chains, all of which are critical in taming food-driven inflation.

The continued decline in overall inflation could also positively influence the country’s monetary policy, possibly creating room for adjustments in interest rates or targeted subsidies.

While the current inflation rate remains relatively high by international standards, the consistent downward trajectory is a sign of cautious optimism for economic managers.

If sustained, this trend could eventually lead to broader improvements in consumer purchasing power and a gradual strengthening of household economic resilience.

Stakeholders are, however, advised to remain vigilant, as external shocks such as fuel price volatility, currency depreciation, or climate-related disruptions could still reverse these gains.

Nonetheless, the latest NSO figures provide a timely indicator that Malawi may be on a path toward restoring affordability and rebuilding confidence in the country’s economic future.

Chimwendo urges Malawians to vote for Chakwera

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has called on Malawians to vote for President Lazarus Chakwera in the upcoming 16th September 2025 General Elections to ensure continuity of development across the country.

Chimwendo made the remarks on Sunday during a political rally held at Kaliyeka School Ground in Mlodza Constituency, Lilongwe.

He stated that President Chakwera deserves another term in office because he has laid a solid foundation for development that must be built upon.

“President Chakwera has constructed solid and beautiful roads across the country,” said Chimwendo. “We are talking about health posts, health centres, main hospitals like the Cancer Centre, and mega farms that are being established nationwide.”

Chimwendo also praised Chakwera for fostering national unity.
“There is no Lomwe, no Sena, no Yao, no Mang’anja—we are all united as one nation,” he said.

He highlighted Chakwera’s quality leadership, describing it as responsive and people-centered.

“If you want continuity, let’s talk about Chakwera. If you want safety and protection for persons with albinism, let’s talk about President Chakwera,” he added.

Chimwendo concluded by urging Malawians to trust Chakwera’s leadership, saying he has the capacity to unite the country and fulfill his promises.

Chimwendo (L) and Msungama (R)

In his remarks, Ulemu Msungama, the MCP’s shadow Member of Parliament for Mlodza Constituency, echoed Chimwendo’s sentiments. He urged voters to support President Chakwera for the presidency and vote for him as MP, noting the tangible developments brought to the constituency.

Msungama revealed that Mlodza was once one of the least developed areas in Lilongwe, particularly in terms of road infrastructure, but that has since changed under Chakwera’s administration.

He cited several roads that were previously in bad condition but have now been upgraded to tarmac, including the Mchesi–Baghdad Road, Chilinde 1 to Area 23, and Chipasula Road.

“These are things people can see,” said Msungama. “You cannot talk about development in an urban setting without a proper road network. Area 23 has benefited greatly in this regard.”

In addition to the road infrastructure, Msungama highlighted the establishment of a new health centre and health post in the constituency, indicating improved healthcare access.

He concluded by stating that it is clear President Chakwera and himself should be given a chance to continue serving the people of Mlodza and Malawi at large.

Malawi is scheduled to hold its General Elections on 16th September 2025, where voters will elect the President, Members of Parliament, and Councillors.
