The artist also called on his fans and followers to be aware of the incident:

“Please, friends, spread the word to anyone who saw the post on my page I did not create it. I am truly disappointed that friends I trusted would behave this way. From now on, I no longer have access to my page because of their interference.”

Select Financial Services urges collaboration to boost financial inclusion

Select Financial Services, one of Malawi’s lending institutions, has called for stronger collaboration between the government and the microfinance sector to sustain financial inclusion amid Malawi’s current economic challenges.

Founded in 2007, Select Financial Services provides credit and financial solutions to both public and private sector employees.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Akuzike Kafwamba said that despite inflationary pressures and currency fluctuations, the microfinance sector continues to play a vital role in helping Malawians build financial resilience, hence the need for collaboration.

“We have seen how access to affordable financial services can transform lives. Our focus remains on providing practical solutions that help individuals and businesses stay afloat, even in difficult economic times,” said Kafwamba.

Kafwamba said the institution’s 17 years of experience have deepened its understanding of Malawi’s financial realities, enabling it to serve clients often excluded by traditional banking systems.

“Our goal is not only to lend money but to empower people with financial knowledge and tools that promote stability and growth,” said Kafwamba.

He urged policy makers to establish frameworks that support innovation, reduce barriers to access, and promote collaboration between regulators and financial service providers.

“If we work together, government, private sector, and communities, we can build a more inclusive financial system that works for every Malawian,” added Kafwamba.

A finance expert and senior lecturer in accounting and finance at Millennium University, Richard Tembo commenting on the matter, stressed Select Finance Services’ call on the importance of collaboration between the government and microfinance institutions.

“The government provides policy direction and ensures financial stability, while microfinance institutions turn those policies into real financial access for people. Working together ensures support mechanisms like consumer protection, financial literacy programs, and responsible lending standards are well aligned.”

“During economic turbulence, timely access to small loans allows households to manage shocks, maintain consumption, and invest in small ventures. That’s where institutions like Select come in handy,” said Tembo.

Select Financial Services operates in all the four regions in Malawi and is part of the broader Select Africa Group, which offers microfinance products in multiple African countries including Lesotho, Eswatini, Kenya, Uganda, and Namibia.

She said the event will go beyond showcasing beauty products, describing it as a life-changing experience designed to inspire the youth to turn their passion into profitable ventures.

“This fair is not only about glamour it’s about empowerment, education, and entrepreneurship,” Chimvumbi emphasized.

Chimvumbi revealed that the event will feature a series of activities, including live demonstrations, makeup tutorials, hairstyling competitions and fashion showcases by both established and upcoming designers. The aim, she said, is to expose participants to the latest trends and techniques in the beauty industry.

To recognize excellence, organisers have also introduced Beauty Industry Awards that will celebrate individuals and businesses making a positive impact in the sector.

“We want to appreciate those who are raising the bar and contributing to the growth of Malawi’s beauty ecosystem,” added Chimvumbi.

The awards will cover categories such as Best Makeup Artist, Best Hair Stylist, Best Beauty Brand and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Winners will receive trophies and promotional opportunities to expand their businesses.

According to Chimvumbi, the event is expected to attract over 1,000 youth from various districts across Malawi. She said the response so far has been overwhelming
with many young people showing great interest in attending and participating.

She also noted that several corporate partners and beauty brands have come on board to sponsor the event, seeing it as an opportunity to support youth empowerment and innovation. Exhibitors will have the chance to market their products and connect directly with potential clients.

The organisers believe the Beauty Fun Fair will not only promote creativity and self-expression but also play a role in reducing youth unemployment by encouraging entrepreneurship.

“We want young people to realize that beauty can be business,” Chimvumbi stressed.

Speaking on Monday during the official launch of the Flag Week of the Poppy Appeal at Page House in Mangochi, Mutharika who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and Patron of the Veterans said his administration will prioritize the provision of proper accommodation and other essential needs for the country’s war veterans.

“This initiative aims to ensure that our brave men and women who served this nation live in dignity. We must remember that our freedom and peace came at the cost of their courage and sacrifice,” said Mutharika.

The  president called on Malawians to use Poppy Week as a time for reflection and generosity toward those who served.

“The Poppy Appeal is not just a symbol of remembrance,it is an opportunity for all Malawians to support the welfare of our veterans and the families of fallen heroes,” he said.

As part of his support, Mutharika donated K5 million to assist veteran soldiers through the Veterans and Ex-Service League of Malawi.

In his remarks, the League’s Chairperson, General Henry Odillo (Retired), hailed Mutharika for his consistent advocacy for the welfare of retired soldiers and the families of those who died in service.

Odillo noted that many veterans still struggle with poor housing and limited access to healthcare.

He said this year’s Poppy Week aims to raise over K300 million through nationwide fundraising activities to improve the lives of veterans and their dependents.

“The challenges are many, but with continued support from the government and the public, we can ensure that no veteran is left behind,” Odillo said.

The event marked the start of a national memorial period dedicated to honouring servicemen and women who devoted their lives to defending Malawi’s sovereignty and maintaining peace.
