President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is expected to officially launch his reelection campaign this Saturday, July 19, 2025.

The highly anticipated event will take place at the iconic Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

One of the main highlights of the day will be a colourful youth parade designed to celebrate the energy, diversity, and potential of Malawi’s young generation.

The inclusion of the youth parade is seen as a strategic gesture by President Chakwera to connect with first-time voters and reaffirm his commitment to youth empowerment.

Organisers have revealed that the event will feature musical performances, cultural dances, and speeches from key party figures ahead of the President’s address.

Security has been tightened around the venue as preparations enter their final stages, with party officials encouraging peaceful and responsible conduct during the gathering.

The President is expected to use the platform to outline his vision for the next five years and reflect on achievements made during his first term.

This will also be an opportunity for Chakwera to respond to critics and rally support in the face of economic and governance challenges facing the country.

As the campaign period officially began on July 14, this launch is poised to give the Malawi Congress Party a strong and symbolic start to its nationwide campaign.

All eyes will be on Bingu National Stadium this weekend as President Chakwera makes his formal appeal to the Malawian electorate.

Music producer Dkez Walker faults COSOMA

By Durell Namasani

Popular audio producer Derrick Thom popularly known as Dkez Walker has asked the Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA) to be transparent and accountable in how it register artists and disburse royalties.

Walker was reacting to COSOMA’s recent disbursement of about K1.5 billion for blank media levy for the period of April 2024 to March 2025.

3,524 artists in various disciplines received different amounts of money from COSOMA but some are still not amused with the criteria being used to distribute the royalties.

Writing on his Facebook page, Walker who is also a lecturer at the Catholic University says despite registering his songs, COSOMA has been telling him that his information is not available in their system.

“It’s a real letdown to see your work being used everyday at almost every wedding, social gathering, open air events, sporting activities, and even political rallies in Malawi, yet the creator earns nothing, despite holding intellectual property rights,” he said.

Walker further says that time has come for those responsible for overseeing this system to be held accountable.

Dkez Walker is popular for producing beats for a number of well known songs including ‘Zowalirana’ and ‘Ipatse Moto’ which are mostly enjoyed in sporting events, weddings, political rallies and other social gatherings.

Why Chitipa Central Must Vote for Timothy Mtambo on September 16

By Wadza Botomani

As Malawi prepares to elect its next President and Members of Parliament, the people of Chitipa Central have a clear choice: Timothy Pagonachi Simbega Mtambo (TPM). Unlike other candidates, Mtambo brings a proven track record of leadership, fearlessness, and a deep commitment to development. Here’s why he is the best choice for Chitipa Central.

1. A Leader with a Proven Record of Delivery
Timothy Mtambo is no stranger to creating change. He is the only Malawian in over two decades to establish a new government ministry—the Ministry of Civic Education and National Unity—through grassroots efforts. If he could fight for the entire nation during the 2019/2020 political crisis, imagine what he can do for Chitipa Central in Parliament.

2. Bold and Fearless Advocacy
Mtambo is known for speaking truth to power, whether confronting presidents, ministers, or powerful institutions. In Parliament, he will champion the voices of farmers, unemployed youth, struggling mothers, and the marginalized—without fear or compromise.

3. Direct Access to Decision-Makers
Unlike many MPs who struggle to influence policy, Mtambo already engages directly with top leaders, including the President. He won’t need permission to push for Chitipa’s needs—better roads, hospitals, schools, and markets.

4. Global Connections, Local Impact
With vast international experience, Mtambo knows how to attract investment and development projects. He won’t rely solely on government budgets but will bring in clean water programs, youth training centers, improved farming inputs, and infrastructure through global partnerships.

5. A Strategic Fighter for Change
In 2019, Mtambo led historic protests under HRDC, helping secure free and fair elections. If he can move an entire nation, why doubt his ability to transform Chitipa Central?

6. A True Son of the North
Mtambo understands the struggles of poor roads, unemployment, and lack of healthcare because he has lived them. He is one of us and will never abandon his people.

The Choice is Clear
Chitipa Central needs an MP who:
✔ Knows how the system works
✔ Will speak out without fear
✔ Cannot be bought or controlled

On September 16, vote for a leader who will fight for you. Vote Timothy Pagonachi Mtambo—for a liberated, developed Chitipa Central.
